  1. Sorry havent posted anything been real busy. My H.U. has been doing good till today going to class it shut off when the volume was at like 5 and that pissed me off and it kept shutting off. After class it shut off once and then that was it was fine the rest of the drive and to work. I did notice when my H.U. shuts off my dash shows a red battery symbol shows for a split second and then goes off. The weather has been crappy so i havent been able to do the big three still.
  2. So last night on my way home from work I was listening to my stereo and all of a sudden the H.U. shuts off and then restarts(Alpine 9884). I installed the H.U. last year in November and never had a problem with it then about a month ago I put in a Sundown SAZ-1000D and a Fi 12" Q. Never had a problem with my H.U. turning off before last night. I dont know if the cold had anything to do with it. It was around 30 out and snowing. Today comming home from school it was listening to it seeing if it would shut off and it never did then comming to work a few hours later it started doing it again. I have yet to do the big 3 and my voltage drops pretty good. Im driving a 97 blazer 4 dr. I'm just looking for were to start troubleshooting.
  3. Ok so I turned my sub off and then turned the stereo up and it shut off so then I pulled the H.U. and replaced the connections on the harness with different ones and it still shut off. It seems that it only happens when I first start the car if I've been driving for a while it seems to stay on. I still have yet to do the big three I'll try to get it done this weekend (weather permitting)
  4. Yea I'll post tomorrow what I find out...new head unit time maybe haha
  5. I would agree shops are gay. Sound works our "main" shop here is sad at best but I went to Mid City I know the guy there he set it up for free. I made sure he was working when I went in but I do want to learn how to do this my self.
  6. Yea I set the gain that way with a 50 hz tone. Then i event took it to a shop and had them set everything to make sure it was all good.
  7. I have a DMM so I put it to DC and touch the speaker inputs on the amp? How loud should I have it?
  8. Sounds cheap lol. So im gonna pull the H.U. tomorrow and check the harness. If that goes no where then I'm gonna get some 0ga and do the big 3 and then work on getting a new battery up front. Any suggestion on a decent one. I'm only running 1000wrms.
  9. Haha I'm already trying to justify in my head why I need to get more stuff back there. But you think the voltage thing is what is causing my head unit to shut off now?
  10. Its a 1997 chevy Blazer stock alt and whatever the battery it came with when I bought it about 3 years ago.
  11. I have not pulled the H.U. yet tomorrow I will since its the only time I have free to. Yes this happens with bass I havent tried to get it to shut off with the sub off tho. As for the voltage my car has a voltage guage in the dash and it only goes low at idle so I turn it down.
  12. Yea the H.U. shuts off sound goes off then after a few seconds the H.U. turns back on and sound comes back if I keep it low once I get around 19-20(volume) it shuts off again.
  13. Alpine CDA-9884 HU 18wrms, 2 volt preouts, Polk DB series componets 4ohm up front and infinity reference coax in the back 4 ohm both being run off the HU for now. 1 12" Fi Q D2 and a SAZ-1000D at 1 ohm. 2.5cuft box at 32hz sub up port back in a 97 blazer. I think im gonna try sub back port back but I thought i saw some place that something like a epicenter made a song with little bass have a lot more bass, thats what im going for here. Like I said rap songs are loud but I dont listen to rap.

    JL Amp Help

I found this on JL's website says for JL amp except HD series so I would think it will work for yours heres the link My link
  15. Dont mean to thread jack here but im kinda in the same position. I have a 12" Fi Q on a Sundown SAZ-1000D at 1 ohm. Anyways its loud when rap is playing the probem is I dont listen to rap I listen to stuff like A Day to Remember, All that remains, The Devil Wears Prada, Alexisonfire things like that and some of its not very bass oriented. So I was wondering what a good processor would be to make up for the lack of bass I heard good things about Phoenix gold bass cube but I dont think they make those anymore. Any input is welcomed.

    SAE vs SAZ

I have a SAZ-1000D on a Fi 12 Q and love it so thats what I would recommend
  17. Will post up pics as soon as possible. Last question...well for now anyways haha. The remote amp knob, that only controls the gain I have set. Say the gain on the amp was set to 50% if you had the remote gain up half way it would only be 25% gain, max on the remote would be 50% ect...
  18. Alright so my Fi 12 D2 q should be arriving tomorrow. I arleady have my Sundown Saz 1000D. I've been reading as much as I can on here so I just want to make sure I have everything straight. Wiring my sub to 1 ohm I need to take the positive's and run a wire from one to the other andsame for the negatives. Then take a wire from one of the pos and neg's and run them to the amp. I noticed the amp has 2 sets of speakers inputs A & B. I would hook my sub up to one set correct A or b? As for setting up the amp I have a Alpine CDA-9884 it has a subwoofer level 0-15 if I understand this I put the subwoofer level to 15, bass to 0. Take 1000wRms x 1ohm load, Square root of 1000 is 31.6 so with a 50hz tone playing at 3/4 volume take my DMM and hook it up to the speaker inputs of the amp with gain at 0 turn up till it reads 31.6 volts? I'm a little hazy on what to do with with the Subsonic (10Hz-60Hz), LPF Filter(35Hz-300Hz), Bass Boost(0dB-6dB) and Phase(0-180) tho. Also the rca's are not labeled witch one is left and right? Thanks in advance.

Building a box for the first time.

I just built my first one. I recommend a table saw if you have access to one. I only had a circular saw and it was not fun trying to get straight cuts.
  20. I'll put pictures up as soon as I get them.
  21. Haha yea first time this site is very helpfull. Thanks for the quick replies. Now just got to wait for the UPS guy to show up tomorrow! Also what about the phase?

12" Fi Q box design help

Louder is good but I dont want to take away from sound quality.
  24. Thanks in advance for the help. Alright I am planning on getting a 12" Fi Q D2 and already ordered a sundown SAZ-1000D to power it. I've never built a box before and I dont trust the audio shop here. I want to build a L shaped ported box. Its going in a 1997 chevy blazer so I have room. First should I go sub up port back or sub back port back? What are the benefits of each keep in mind I'm not going for spl. According to Fi "Ported box we recommend using 1.8-2.5 cubic feet @ 28-33Hz (I personally think that a 32hz tuning is optimal, and has the most output and is still the most musical daily driving). Use 12-16 square inches of vent area per cubic foot of volume." So I want to stay as close to that as I can 3/4" MDF board is what I will use. I downloaded a box calculator from I think Basshead (thank you btw) and I punched this in Any tips revisions anything at all will be appreciated also do you guys think I need to brace it or not. Thanks again.
