I would like to use a AC voltmeter to set the gain on my SAZ-3500D. Can I get the voltage just before clipping at a 1 ohm load?
-
Thats already been established. I never said it was neither I just set the amp by ear like I have been doing for over 15 years I know what clipping sounds like and I have not heard any clipping, but I'm willing to accept that maybe my hearing is going bad and I need to do it with a voltmeter so can I just get the question at hand answered? Thanks!

I have had my 3500D installed for a while now and its great however when I really crank it up full tilt on music after maybe 20 mins. it will sometimes go into protect. I had a 300 amp circuit breaker hooked up next to it up until today when I switched it out for a 300 amp ANL fuse. I had a problem with the circuit breaker tripping when turned to full tilt also, I think due to extreme vibrations. After replacing the circuit breaker I found it still went into protect once today. I have 2 165ah batteries next to the 3500D and a optima yellowtop under the hood, but I'm still running the factory alternator which I plan to upgrade soon. I have a digital gauge mounted on the dash so I'm positive the voltage never drops bellow 13 volts. I guess my question is, is it because my alternator isn't providing enough amperage or what else could it possibly be? Thanks!

yeah really....

I would like to use a AC voltmeter to determine if clipping is the issue since I do not hear the clipping. Can I get the voltage just before clipping at a 1 ohm load?

Found an interesting read. Amplifier gain controls - setting your gain This guy claims to have been installing since 1974!! BTW I turned my gain back up it sounds much better I just don't go full tilt on the head unit as thats the only time I had a problem.

lol... ok thanks! Guess I should have waited for the 4500D. I turned it down it was about half way up now its a little under half way... Should I turn it down even lower?
-
I think it's around 3/4 of the way up maybe a little less these subs are power hungry. I'll play around with the gain and see if I can get the same output with less gain. I don't hear any clipping though.

Nope one thing I love about this amp is it never gets very hot just a little warmth. This will be my first summer running Sundown though so fans may be necessary soon. My previous Lanzar OptiDrive Plus 500 amp would over heat like crazy seriously I could cook on it, of coarse it was being over worked pushing around 1500 watts to my 4000 watts RMS subs. I should probably add that I am running a 1 ohm load as suggested by Jacob.

The Official SPL-Labs SPL Meter Group Buy Thread
SexySoundLab replied to shizzzon's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
I've been planing to purchase one of these usb meters for a while now. I had discussed prices with Krill through email and he sent me here. Put me down for a USB BASS METER possibly a PRO if enough people join the group buy. Thanks Shizz/Phi for getting this started! -
Thank you I guess for now I'll plan for it to be .5 cubes. If anyone has the exact volume please let me know.

I'm planing to purchase a lvl 5 15" in the very near future and so I'm working on the box design and I was hopeing someone could give me the volume of this woofer. Thanks...

I want one of these but I'm really limited on space can I get me the length dimension in inches? I converted the mm dimension provided to inches, but then I went to check what was provided for the 3500 length dimension and noticed it is not correct, it states that the length is 594 mm which converts to 23.4 inches however I measured mine and its 26 inches. So can someone please measure one for me and let me know the exact length of this amp in inches? Thanks...

Which Sundown amp can power 2 JL Audio 10w7 sealed?
SexySoundLab replied to cichlid_baby's topic in Sundown Audio
Don't get me wrong I have run JL subs many times in the past and found JL has made some great subs in their day. But my experence with the w7 models tell me they are over rated. I also suggest a 1000d for them. -
Jacob did you get the shipment of 3500d's on Friday as expected? Will I get an email when mine is shipped so I know when to be expecting it to arrive? Thanks!!
-
Thanks Derrick, I figured an email would be sent. Just wanted to make sure.

I've been running an oldschool Lanzar OptiDrive Plus 500 which pushes well over 1000 watts since purchasing it new back in 1993. I've smoked more subs than I can remember and the amp still works flawlessly. I surely hope I'm not wrong by saying that a Sundown amp could easily do the same thing. Still waiting for my 3500D to put it to the test.

Aww that sucks! I wanted a 50.4 to go with my 3500D but I don't have the cash right now.

I ordered a 3500D and now looking into purchasing a second battery. I currently have an older group 34 optima yellow top under the hood, 1/0 gauge wire ran to the trunk and the big 3 done. I'll be buying a 200 amp alt soon as well. I'm having a hard time deciding on which battery is the best between the Kinetik HC3800 or the PowerMaster D3100. I'm unable to find the complete stats on both. Some stats I have found, the Kinetik has 135AH and the PowerMaster has 117AH. The Kinetik is rated for a 3800 watt system and the PowerMaster 4000/5000+ watts. I havent been able to find CCA or CA for either although I did find the PowerMaster is rated for 3,200A Max Amps. The Kinetik is more expensive so I'm currently leaning towards the PowerMaster but I really want the best battery available.

Here are links to the PAC models I was looking at... 200 AMP 500 AMP I guess stinger only makes the 200 AMP model which is here... 200 AMP I was originally looking for a solenoid but couldn't find one I thought would work so I started looking for high current relays when I found these. I'm interested, I'll send you an email shortly. I'll be running just the one 3500D @ 1 ohm on a 12v system for now.

Thanks again for your help. I was looking at Battery Isolators/Solenoids and found that the PAC/Stinger models come in two sizes. The 200 AMP continuous 300 AMP surge and the 500 AMP continuous 700 AMP surge. Since the 3500D is rated for 300 amp and all my fuses will be 300 AMP would I need to get the 500 amp model? I noticed they aren't cheap neither which make me think I should just buy another battery and skip it. CrazyKenKid you said you you had one for sale, what size is it and how much are you asking for it?

what to do with the remote of my saz1000 ?
SexySoundLab replied to Notorious97200's topic in Sundown Audio
I don't have my 3500D yet so I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure it works like this.... You set the gain on the amp to the max lvl you want it to ever be, then with the remote you can adjust the gain up to the max set on the amp and bellow. I couldn't live without a bass remote cause it makes for easy bass volume adjustment for different styles of music. -
I'm planning to purchase a 3500D I also plan to purchase a new sub for it in the near future. I'd like to hear some opinions on which I should buy a fully loaded Fi BTL 15" or a DC LVL 5 15" I debated on a Nightshade 15 as well but they are not rated for this much power daily, maybe when the monster is released I'll switch over to a sundown sub. Thanks
