I am running a mmats 2200.1 and btl 18 old style no upgrades to my knowledge kinetik 2400 audio control lc8. When I turn the volume up the bass clips out with a mild thumping sound then comes right back in but continues to clip out. What is wrong? Thanks

Ok well the manufacturer claims it is a 1 ohm stable amp. Are you saying that it cant handle 1 ohm because the amp is defective? Specs SPECIFICATIONS RMS Power at 13.8V 1400W into 2 ohms with less than 1% THD+N 2200W into 1 ohm with less than 1% THD+N S/N Ratio: -92db A-Wtd Frequency Response: <10 to 225Hz Lowpass Filter: Variable 24db, 70 to 200Hz Idle Current: 1A Dimensions (LxWxH): 15” x 9.25” x 2.25” FEATURES Ultra- Efficient Class D Audio Output Stage

I finally pulled the sub and put in a MMATS 3.0 15 wired for 2ohms and there has not been any problems. My installer thinks its the sub. I am still testing. I also pulled the Lc8 and replaced it with a EQS. Still need to run the dhc2200.1 at 1 ohm to be for sure. If no problems then it must be the sub.

Yeah your right there always something better. But it is considered a high end amp. Its special to me because majority of people would think it is a very good amp and that it does not suck. I am also coming from Hifonics and Ma Audio. I now have a JL and mmats amp pretty large leap for me and I can totally hear the difference. I just dont think it is a voltage issue. I will get it checked out though

I am going to trouble shoot the amp and the sub. I still think something is damaged. I think a coil on the sub is fried. There is no model number on the amp either I was just told it was a dhc2200.1 so I am going to open that up. The amp is suppose to put out much more. Not to say it cant happen but a voltage drop one mmats amp is kinda a oxy moron. Not to say iit not possible. MMATS are known for there efficiency. Most amps are 30-50% efficient. mmats is 76% When I ran the amp at 2ohms the subs did not cut out. I am about to try it on 1 ohm on these wb 10s. I am guessing the tinsels or something is fried on the sub or the amp is not 1ohm stable. I'll let you know

I looked into the reducer. I dont think I need that I have 0 guage to the amp
-
No, not sure if that would be enough power to move the sub Yea, it probablly won't move... >< You do know it's just testing where the problem is? I did have it wired at 2 ohms on a different set of speakers and there was not a problem

it metered at .8 ohm 0 gauge throughout. kinetic 2400 bat right next to the amp.. I will check out the reducer, thanks

Could be. The gains are hard to get to on the 4 ch so by turning the gains down to much I literally have to take alll the treble out and raise the bass all the way up. But I can with the gains at 0 once I get to the the 4ch gains

I had an install already with a ma amp and hifonics amp and everything was fine. I swapped out those two amps for a jl 300/4 and the mmats amp and added the btl. A good test might be to run a different speaker at 1 ohm and see if there is a problem or run the btl on someone else s amp to see if that's the problem. What do you think?

The amp did not have a problem running at 2 ohms It is a MMATS dhc2200.1 amp which is one ohm stable. The speaker on the meter is reading .8 ohms I am using an LC8 which is pretty much necessary to run the benz factory radio to allow steering wheel controls to work. I have not checked for any voltage drops however I had a Hifonics Brutus 2000 watt amp on there before and the lights dimmed at high volumes but continued to play. The mmats amp has a very small foot print and the lights dont dimmed at all at any volume. If I am playing a Jeezy or luda song with heavy bass the low notes dont hit. It is like a dull pop then it hits the other higher bass notes. It was playing pretty good last night on old school rnb and some house music at very high volumes. I actually turn the gain up a little because could not here the bass with out turning up the bass from the head unit. The lc8 may need to be turned down was a thought. MMATS amp i hear are very finicky about voltage drops. Eventhough the lights dont dim when the low notes come it may because the current draw is not there because the note doesn't play. Amps in the past I have had when the amp goes in into protection it usually shuts off for awhile and a red light comes on. Not skipping beats. Thanks for everyone's help with this matter

Well after turn the gains down to a 1/4 it is still clipping out. I turn the gains all the way down and clipped as well. It just seems like when it get to a certain volume it clips. It not that loud either. I wonder if it is the Lc8 sending a clip signal. I need to take it in to a shop to see if they can figure it out. Any other thoughts?

that's good, but not quite good enough, if your amp has no ssf then that's a big problem I suggest getting an inline ssf (I think theres one called fmod, may have to google for it), but if it was me I'd sell the amp and get something better. I actually upgraded to this amp. MMATS is considered professional audio. I will definitley look into the fmod. I know ssf are good to have. Thanks for your help

Ok I just turned the gains down. Its proabbaly up a 1/4. I was able to turn turn it up much louder and the sub did not cut off. So we are on the right track. Thanks

this is the amp no ssf MMATS DHCx2200.1 outside - Amp Guts

I will try that tonite, thanks

4 and change thats a good i dea i traded my hifonics amp for the custom box. I dont have another 1 ohm powerful amp. I have a ma hk4000d 2ohm stable amp. I dont think you can wire a dual 2 to read 2ohms. I could put the box on someone elses car if I can get it out. Or I can put my wilb beast 10s on the amp they are wired at 1 ohm. what do you think? I also have the LC8 could that signal be up to high?

No amp is fine however when i first installed it and was playing loud the amp got warm there was a funny smell. Thats unusual for a mmats amp. The sub clips out like it skipping a beat. It comes back on its like the bass note isnt catching at times. Its not extremely loud when it does this. I cannot get to that point. It always cuts out on low notes your driver isn't going to just randomly decide not to output any sound unless it's not getting power from your amp, or tinsels are loose (which I doubt). how'd you set your gain? whats your enclosure tuned to? and how did you set your ssf? Perhaps you clipped it and allowed it to bottom out and overexcursion and tinsels need to be re soldered? BUT I think it's more likely that your amp is clipping, wired to impedence too low, either way and shutting off, perhaps the light stays on and you think it's fine but it is in fact not outputting for a second and thus gives you the impression that your driver is "skipping a beat" Hmmm thank you. I thought about it being the amp. I spoke to the guy who sold it to me afterwards and he made it seem like everything is ok. He said its 1 ohm stable. It is the dhc2200.1 Is there a way I can test for that issue or I need to service the amp? how'd you set your gain? 1/2 way up whats your enclosure tuned to? 30hz i think and how did you set your ssf? That I dont know. not sure if the amp has one I need to check Perhaps you clipped it and allowed it to bottom out and overexcursion and tinsels need to be re soldered? maybe both were puchased on ebay

Mercedes Benz s430 2005 I had a hifonics brutus 2608 2000x1 and the lights dimmed a lot more but no sub outings. The hifonics was on 2 10" wildbest beast and it was about to blow those speakers. No problems but this setup I am having these problems. The sub is in 4 and change cubic box ported 30hz if that matters. I also have a 2nd battery kinetic 2400 0 guage everything. I have a batcap 300 I was gonna through on it. It makes a weird popping or thud sound when the bass hits to hard and the bass cuts out and comes right back

Ok I will go to a shop and do that. I actually had it running two 12s at 2ohms and it sounded fine until I ran it at 1 ohm on the btl. My lights dont dim at all. The amp is 76% efficient 2200 watts. Also the amp stopped getting warm. I dont know if this makes since but as I warm up the sub it does let me play it louder notch by notch vs just not warming it and cranking it cllip out faster. It will play at normal levels where it is shaking the trunk pretty hard but I know this sub can do more. I dont know yet

thanks, the gains are half way up. You dont think the sub is damaged?
