YEah.. The sound has improved a lot. I picked up some 3/4" ScanSpeak Illuminators and will try and put them in this week. Im not too crazy about the tweeters that came with the 720 PRS set. Right now I have them crossed at 3150hz and the mids at 2500.. I think both are on a 12 db slope. I had them at the same crossover point but I was getting a big bump and it sounds better this way. Yeah it wasnt too hard once I started working on the car. I like the DIY! Thanks. Mike

Ok I have a 12" Fi Q and love it! So I was wondering if someone could point me to examples of full range or almost full range 6.5 round drivers for the back seats in the doors. Right now I have full range Pioneer drivers, but was wondering if getting something like AAs Poly Driver would improve the quality of the sound, or should I not bother. Somehow Fi is related to Ascendant Audio, not sure how though.. Thanks. Mike

That may be the way to go... Any suggestions. Mike OK. I went DIY and active. Took me about 4 hours to remove the passive crossovers and run new wires to the tweets. Sounds great! And lots of fun with crossover points and slopes. I cant really tell Im missing speakers in the rear seats, not to mention the SQ is way better. Thanks. Mike

But a badass sub can make the music kick ASS!! Just some initial impressions on my new Q 12... First comparing it to my 12" Pioneer sub: Its like comparing a baby toy to a sledge hammer. When the Fi arrived I couldnt believe how big, heavy and well made this thing was. It was probably twice the weight of the Pioneer, no joke. I got the red Fi and it looks awesome, cept I followed my original threads in the box so its at a bit of an angle. The box is sealed 1.25 cu filled with polyfill. I hooked the sub up in series and have it hooked to a pioneer class d 600w into 2 ohm amp. I know it takes time to break in the sub and I only listened for a few minutes (and would like to give a serious review after the break in period)... Comparing it to the Pioneer. The Pioneer was basically a low hum, no definition and musical instruments were mush. More like gruel. I guess if you listen to Techno, with one beat it might be ok, but I like rock, jazz, classical, rap , everything except country. Not a big country fan. Listening to a reference jazz cut, I was like O theres the standing bass. And you could hear the pitch and definition in the sound where there was zero before. The bass is tight and controlled too. The sub stops and starts fast. Man I am stoked! Thanks to the guys at Fi for the AWESOME sub! Im not a car sub connoisseur, but I am a serious home audiophile with a pretty expensive system, (though you dont have to spend a lot to get great sound) (and Fi proves that!!!!!) Its really one of the best deals in car audio. OK back to the car! Peace. Mike

Is that 200 a piece. Ouch! Is there a way to get a hold of the Vifa XT 19 Alpine versions, and do you think I could keep the same passive crossover, since I hope not to rewire and just do a drop in. Mike

I was interested in the AA Carbon fiber mids. will they fit in a 6x8 space? Do they have an adapter ring. Plus do they come with a passive crossover and tweets... Right now I have the Pioneer 720PRS components which are pretty nice and have been reviewed very well. Have you heard them? If so how do they compare? And prices.. or local dealer to 11703? Thanks. True. I hAVE a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 , and Id like to keep the tweeters in the factory pillars. I noticed that some of the tweeters were huge! So small, sweet sounding for rock and jazz mostly. Nothing bright or etched sounding. Does that help with taste. As for size Ill have to look around the web, but the tweets on the Pioneer components fit nicely. Thanks. Mike

You have great mids. It seems you only may need to change the tweeters. Depending on your taste you may want to look at Seas Neo Aluminum or Soft, and Vifa XT19 Soft Dome. Lotsa people drive those Pioneer mids with Alpine Type X-Pro tweets with great results, which potentially can take you to the next level you're looking for. Thanks. Im going to try new tweets next. They should be easy enough to swap out. I think I like soft dome better. So Ill try them. I like laid back, but detailed... I dont like forward sounding systems... Which is better Seas or Vifa?, or the Alpine? Mike

The fronts are the TS-C720PRS. Rears: TS-D702P. I bought the ront component because of everything I heard they sounded the best. Open, smooth with good clarity. Perhaps Ill look into the AA... I just dont want to build my own crossovers... Im no rocket scientist, but you might be of that opinion already lol. Peace. Mike

I would think the weakest element is the highs... I EQd it so they are ok, but they can get bright on some material. BEsides that things seem pretty good. Are the front AA components definitely better than the high end Pioneer I have. Maybe its a matter of trying a new set of components. Mike

OK... So no rears.... to keep it a pure 2.1 sound. What is the rationale? That it interferes with the soundstage? So I guess I could go active with the fronts? Thanks. Mike

Well... I cant tell if AA is in business. The carbon fiber mids arent on there website... Plus shouldnt they be paired with a tweet and crossover? Maybe they are. Where would one purchase them in the 11703 zip code? Plus, will they fit in a 6.5" opening? And what of I just put the mids in would that kill the sound. I dont think I would replace the Pioneer components in the front. They are pretty damn nice. Thanks. Mike

What do your front speakers consist of? Those are more important than the rears, as you hear those a lot more. My fronts are Pioneer Premier PRS-720, which are pretty nice. Smooth, awesome clarity... nice punch.. My Hu is the Pioneer 880 PRS... Driving the 4 speakers is a Kenwood Class D 120W x 4. The rears are used for fill? Not sure if I need full range or not I just thought the mid range driver was interesting. I think the SQ is very good, just looking for that next level. Mike

Mine has thicker and wider copper leads to the connectors.. maybe thats just a new addition? Mike

Mines 1.25 cu sealed. I have the Q version, but it sounds pretty damn good. I think one of the Fi guys suggested that 1.25 sounded the best fro a sealed setup. I also have polyfill in there. And am running 600w in series. Ive had someone say to me that running a sub in series in more SQ accurate than in parallel. Is that true? Mike

Im a bit of an audio freak, I started with my home system and have now moved out to the car (at least its not the dog house) I explained to her its just a love of music/audio... like she loves gardening and plants.
