Alright random question, what are the dimensions of the 15" and 18" BTL woofer? Just wondering the L,W,H of it is all. For my box so I can figure in the displacement and how I am going to mount it without the magnet hitting anything. I wouldnt think the magnet (that side of the woofer I mean) would be moving at all, so not much space would be needed to allow for "wiggle room". Maybe an inch or so for vibration (am I correct on the assumption that side of the woofer will not move?)

Alright I kind of half ass designed a box sitting here during work. The measurements are 30 x 38 x 18.5 (L W H). This would give me about 12 cubit feet of space inside the box if I did the external port. Would this be too big for a 15 BTL? If so how about an 18 BTL? The port area on the box (just adding a front port, not side / top at all even considered yet. Nor am I adding the Fi BTL that I am going to carve into the box for additional port) . If I were to make the ports normal they would add up to be around 6 cubic feet. Again is that too small for a 15 BTL or 18 BTL? NOTE: I have decided my design ( no matter what size woofer I get) the magned will be mounted outside the box.

Alright I think I understand.

Whats an external port? I have been looking but I dont see a good diagram of one. I found this http://www.subwoofer-builder.com/vent-options.htm but not sure if thats what you mean...

What do you guys think about that one? I would like one that flips out, but those seem expensive.
-
Well one was for 18 vs 15, kinda got out of hand so I tried to bring it back together. Another was about car electrical and that went elsewhere. Then another was about making strange looking boxes then it went elsewhere... I just like trying to kep the topic the same as everythign posted. Else you get to 5+, 6+, 7+ pages and the person reading the first post has no idea wtf the last post it about. I guess I could pm a op and ask them to combine everything...

It is possible to build a box with large port holes (for example, dont put on a cover or sides, just build a brace for the sub). But it sounds ilke its not doable so that idea is thrown out the window. I am not trynig to cut corners, I was just curious. If I have to Ill fill my entire trunk, I dont care. My trunk is 40L, 40W, 20H.

A simple question, maybe not a simple answer though. I am looking to (maybe) invert my 15" BTL when I get it. The whole reason why I want to do this is to give the woofer as much air as it wanted and to use the trunk as the entire box. Saving room would be a plus but isn't really needed. I know some subs simply cant be mounted this way. The more I think of it the more I actually think the BTL may not be able to. Dont think though that this will make or break me getting a sub, just an idea.... http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5601 (some guy posted a program to help with box cubic feet calculations)

Just a quick question.... I wonder what if I made a small box but with killer ports? Like make a brace for the sub and give it like 1/4 the box size but like 4x or 5x the port size? (Just an idea that popped into my head. Probably wont do it...) EDIT: I would keep the raitos the same. Somehow I would figure out well I need X space for Y port and then flip them so Y space for X port...

So do I not need two batteries? Just toss my old one out?

The ratings on http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDAVX77/JV...=r&tp=20217 seem pretty good. I may choose that one if I dont find a better one at a local store (usually gives deals if you buy something else....they have lots of stuff there as well).

Alright. I am just hoping this 15" will be above and beyond my expectations.
-
Wouldnt that be a double din then?
-
The stock cd player is 2x the size as a normal cd player in height...
-
At 1:03 ish. Is Steve just not pulling enough power?
-
Ah alright. So basically if I flip the sub upside down it will still need the same size box? (give or take a little from the sub itself)
-
Humm. according to the crutchfield website that deck will not fit into the car, but its a double decker cd player thing...so confused.
-
Oh I just thought thats where the air displacement comes from...

Single BTL 15" -- check -- about 550$ including shipping group 31 size battery -- check -- bout 400$ including shipping SAZ-2000D amplifier -- check -- bout 500$ including shipping Pioneer FH-P8000BT deck -- check -- about 350$ (guessing, price not posted) free shipping http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130P8000BT/Pi...arch=Equalizers Equalizer -- check -- holey shit these things are expensive. Maybe Ill get it next time around? Looking being below my budget (which is very good)

Don't know. I was just reading on some other forums some should not be mounted upside down. Would mounting the woofer magnet out do anything to the sound?
-
Even better. With a 15" BTL and that amp I still have about 1200 left. A second high powered batter is what? 150? Drops me down to a grand still give or take. Now I just need to find a equalizer and a good deck.... My mistake.

Pretty sure it was Duran ... but anyway

Alright so then a single 15" BTL, large box, lots of port, on a 850$ Sundown SAZ-2000D amp... I can do that. What about a second battery? Yes? No?
