picked up a pair of 12" iCons and this is the box I plan to build. I was wondering what you guys think. This is the first time I have run anything other than a single 15" or a single 18" so I want ot get opinions before I build it. 4.8ft^3 net air space (5.12ft^3 gross .16ft^3 displacement per sub) tuning 32hz-33hz 72.5in^2 port area

The picture I posted shows how I did it. the port area was subtracted, total gross for teh box was like 7.7ft^3 before port, wood and subwoofer displacement...

6500D vs. 2K6D
k_schutte replied to k_schutte's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
If I keep the 6500D's and run a pair of Adassa 18"s in an ideal enclosure would my goal be reachable? I could run both amps to a single APXX18 otherwise, I am told power is more important then cone area when it comes to SPL but I am not sure where that line is drawn... I mean the Adassa's have a 4" coil rather than the 3" of the APXX but from what I understand they also made a 4" coil APXX so may be that would work for a recone if/when they go...? -
Have a guy that wants to trade me a pair of modified Stetsom 2K6D's for my pair of SoundStream 6500D's. the 2K6D's are modded and he has run them down to almost .25ohm before. He says at nationals last year, he strapped them and ran them on a 1.4DVC subwoofer and got over 9Kw out of the pair...? I hear they are pretty under rated but I have no personal experience, I know the 6500D clamped just over 4200 @ 1ohm on 13.8v~... EDIT: These are the older Stetsoms, not the newer "Vulcan" ones... what are your thoughts?

6500D vs. 2K6D
k_schutte replied to k_schutte's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
How are your amps treating you, what is wrong with your amps, what are your goals? Answer these questions and then we can answer your question? nothign wrong with my amps... as for goals, IDK, I just bought an Astro and was hoping for a 155+ non-wall. It isn't a straight trade, It would be me giving him 6500D's, a DB1100D, 4/0 wire and a ford 250A alt for a pair of 2K6D's, A pair of APX15's, a pair of PWD254's and a 7" flip out screen... The onyl reason I was considering the trade is because at the moment I do not have a sub stage for the van. I was/am considering a pair of Adassa 18"s I found pretty damn cheap but everyone is kind of against those as recones would be all but impossible ot get from what I am told. -

3 different forums and not a single reply on any of them... I know SOMEONE has to have some experience with Stetsom... -
Got a pair of MTX 8500 10"s that I am trying to sell (brand new in boxes still) but if they do not sell I am just going to use them. I am wondering what the best box style would be for a pair of these? I have pretty much unlimited space (Astro van) so that isn't an issue and they will be run on a XXX-6500D @ 2ohms so like 1500 each for burps, 700~ daily...
-
I have the chance to possibly pick up a pair of 21" DP's in trade for my XXX-6500D and was wondering if it would be worth doing. I got an Astro not too long ago and planned a pair of 18"s with the 6500D but then this offer came along. The 21"s need reconed, but the amp is 7/10 cosmetic and 10/10 mechanical and just clamped 4589 @ 1ohm on 13.8V during the competition saturday. I was looking around on you tube and what not at flex videos and dB numbers and am very unimpressed so far! Thinking may be I should keep the 6500D and run a single 18" on it instead? something like an RD HeavyWeight 18" to be more specific. Otherwse I would prbably run the 21"s on 1500~ each. So, My main qusetion I guess would be, what do you think would get me better number. 1. Single RD H.W. (or similar) 18" on 4K+ 2. pair of DP 21"s on 1500~ each? I have a TON of space, box can be up to like 30ft (which is much bigger than i'll need for either so...) trying to put together decently priced SPL vehicle. Basic 5, Advanced No Wall and Extreme 1 are the classes I would like to run in.

N/M got it all taken care of

OK... got a recone for my SPL-15 motor but I have some questions. They might seem dumb but i have never done a recone so i have to ask. 1. the Spiders on the recone are smaller than the original and do not sit in the same spider landing... it does seem to fit fine a couple landings down though..? this OK? 2. the coil from the recone is much short than the oginal as well...? 3. I didn't get any shims/spacers or whatever you want ot call them...? what should I use? pics are coming... When i ordered it, it was suppose to be run on a 4Kw @ 1ohm, now it will be on a 2000D @ 1ohm instead...

Well, I need more bass and was wondering if anyone has tried the "home wrecker" box... Not sure what sub I will be using, probably a cheaper on though, 15" most likely... something like kicker, alpine, Volfenhag, R.F. etc.... I figure no need getting anything too nice because most plate amps i see are only a couple hundred watts so... I am using some Aroura "Bass Shakers" and i frikkin love them but of course there is no real bass from them and my sub that came with the surround sound system just lacks... Any suggestions?, hopefuly "on the cheap"

Jumping in where i have no business really but i must say... BILTD for being a business, you are not very professional. I would never purchase anything from you based on this thread alone, even if it where 1/2 the price instead of 2X the price. However i am in the good old US of A so i don't have to worry about it.

OK... I was offered a pair of RD Sonance V.2 12"s and a Memphis MC2000-D for my 4Kw.... I do not know about anything RD except for the H.W. which i loved but... are they geared more toward SPL or LOUD SOUND QUALITY? I kepe hearing they "GET LOUD YET STILL SOUND GREAT" but you know how that is. RD guy said: "The Sonance is a great woofer all around. The first priority was SQ when designed. The woofer actually surprised us with the output once we were finished. We have a few SQ competitors using the Sonance this year and we also have a few SPL guys running them as well. One of the few woofers that can sound great for daily and in a SQ setup but also have the ability to reach a 160+ in the SPL world. " I am looking for SPL again of course and as most of you know i am wanting to down grade power wise so thought this might be a good choice if it would be at all comparable to my single 15" SPL setups?

No money... that is why i was looking at trades rather than just buying the recone right away... Just had to pay the deductable to get some body damage fixed on the caddi and I had to buy a new trans to put in the Malibu I bought for my GF (transmission went out about a month after i bought it for her birthday...) So i haev to sell the RC car or the 1/0 and 2/0 wire or down size the amp in a partial trade and get some cash that way
-
so the sonances would NOT be a good SPL choice... If i keep the 4Kw I will be getting a recone from TeamPSI for my Mach5 SPL-15... and will be MUCH more careful this time and wait until i can do everything RIGHT before I do anything at all...
-
its_ray_ray had them to begin with then traded them to Andrew 2006 and he is in Tennesse so hearing them isn't an option sadly he has good reps though Anyone know the about the LOUD SOUND QUALITY/SPL thing?
-
More specific? caraudio.com member If these are good for SPL I would like to do it but if i will be dissapointed I will stay away... most recent setups where 143-146 dB and that was good enough for me, hoping to stay more toward the 145+ range

Well, I am happy(ish). Finaly got the sound of my HDC315 back except a little harder IMO... I assume the sound deadening has a lot to do with the lack of flex now still moves a decent amount but nothing like before... Should be a BEAST when I get my new box and port the rear deck. Once i get the new box I am going to crank teh power up a little more too, Gain is only about 1/3 right now... don't have a DMM anymore to set it so i figure I will leave it for now. HOWEVER if it is that good right now when i get the new box and turn the power up... I CAN"T WAIT!!! Now i just have to figure out what to do with my rear suspension... Thinking I will airbag the whole car this winter but i don't want to keep scraping/slamming all summer long with all that weight back there....
-
So, i am HOPING this is the final box design for my SPL-15 as I am going ot buy some MDF here in a couple hours. HOWEVER i just thought since this is my very first box design done by myself I would throw it up here for you'all to check out and let me know what you think. Nothing Fancy, just a simple ported box....
-
So... This was just plain a DISASTER!!! the box turned out like shit! Honestly it is probably worse than the first box i ever built back when i was 15 with partical board and brad nails. Stuff split everywhere, the side of the box the port is on was cut 1" short and in my rage i forgot to put the bracing in. All in all I pretty much wasted $50~ on this box and will probably just put the sub in my old box if it would be OK... the other box i have is 4ft^3 and tuned to 33hz, double baffle, flush mount, braced and doesn't look near as bad. Only thing that worries me is I am looking for SPL and I don't think that other box being as small and low tuned would give the the desired results! I wish I could find someone local that would build boxes for a decent price... Or atleast someone that knew how to fuckign cut the wood RIGHT so the shit would actualy look decent and more importantly FIT decent. ANYWAYS, I am going to toss it all in there and see what happens...

HHHMMM.... question i guess i should have asked before... As for carpeting, I have done it several times, which is how i know i don't like doing it ;-) I am going to have ot rebuild a box later on when i have more time, I should have known better than to listen to the guy at Home Depot. Plus he plain sucks at cutting!! I usualy just have saw horses, a circular saw, square and tape measure and my cuts where way better than what he did on that "stand up table saw" some are up to 1/8" +/- the measurements i told him. I even took time to draw it all out TO SCALE on a piece of graph paper so he knew exactly what cuts to make and everything. I think he just didn't take the width of the blade into account when he made the cuts. Plus these screws SUCK and are splitting the wood on the corners/ends and when the head hits, instead of sinking in AT ALL, they just spin like hell. He also told me Liquid Nails was a better adhesive then the Tight Bond (which is what i actualy had ot begin with) I am going to have to carpet this box now just to make it presentable. I usualy use an air powered nail gun and Tight Bond but thought this way would actualy be better man was I WRONG! Oh well, I am going to finish it up and fix it up the best i can for now and get it metered tomorow. Then i will rebuild the box at a later date and see if it might change anythign at all...
-
Ended up getting some 2"X2"x8' for like $1.48~ so i went that route. Don't have a nail gun anymore so i just got some "self pre-drilling" screws and liquid nails. It's over 90* outside so i just had Home Depot cut it all for me (except the circle) and I am going ot throw it together in my "office" where it is nice and air conditioned! I am literaly sweating from just walking to my house form my car 3 times (its about 10ft) ANYWAYS... forgot to get paint for teh port so i guess I am just going to skip that part, probably won't carpet teh box anyways for a little while so it isn't really a big deal. I am just ready for some damn bass back in my car!!
-
Leaving right now... I will probably see what they have up there and then decide what ot do for bracing. I was thinking threaded rod might be a good choice too... I guess we will see what i come up with. Wish me luck!
-
I was planning on using some 1-1/4" dowel... one left/right and one up/down, would that work good enough? I have my old box and stuff laying around and considered "window bracing" but I am trying to keep the box volume as high as possible!
