    bigrank916 MLI-65 project

Good thread to learn from, he did an excellent job Thats what I was aiming for jay-cee! Glad to know Im helping out dude. Thanks. Btw, its a lot EASIER than I thought it would be. Just do it in the summertime when its warm! I appreciate the compliment Denim. I put a lot of hours into those babies! Yeah so far the back doors and all pillars (A, B, C) will be glassed to fix some speaker holes and screw holes from previous installs, so glassing is my next step in this game. Good luck on the build, whats next? Sounds like a good way to dip your feet in. It wont take but a few sessions and your confidence about the whole process will begin to grow exponentially. Whats next? Im thinking about two things right off the batt: 1) Build a new enclosure for the BTL. Toying with the idea of around 10ft3 after all displacements at about 32hz. 45 all the inside corners for air exitement and glass the inside of the box as well. 2) Build a new enclosure for the Z15. Staying with the same size or maybe a .25ft3 less and tuned around 32hz. Glass one side of the enclosure to make room for an amp rack on other side with the SAE1200D. Or glass both sides so I can custom mount the amp on the face, so when you open the hatch, its lookin right at you. I wanted to do door pods for the geo like jblcamry has done but I need actual product for that. I havent any more speakers. Making sub enclosures are just buying supplies. A little less money. This will likely be third. Im going to do all, just not sure which one will be first. Which one sounds better?

More like big two cause I didnt ground the alt to the chassis. There wasnt any dedicated ground post on the stock alt so I thought I would put it in later. Thought the other two were the most important anyway. Maybe when I get a new alt for her, I'll do the third. That will be expensive though! Should have done this a long time ago but I was off work due to the weather today. What better time to do it then now? Had to get some new battery post terminals as they wouldnt work with my 1/0 terminals. Put the black loom on there to make it look nice too. It was lying around so why not? Right off the batt I could tell the difference. The lights dont dim anymore and it even seems a little louder. The volume goes up a little more than it did before, without distorting at a comfortable listening level. I cant wait to put a bigger amp in here now. Maybe throw in some tweets that are lying around with the 50.4 now. Its alllll goooooooood!!!! I should add this went A LOT EASIER than last time. big two in geo metro

Me too! Im going to have to redesign a new box to fit the SAE1200D in there because I want to keep the seat up. I changed the amp location to the hatch next to the box in a vertical position. The SAE1200D is a little bigger and it has to go somewhere else. Im thinking of glassing the sides of the hatch so I can get maximum volume in the enclosure. Id like to build the amp rack into the enclosure so when you open the hatch, its staring right at you. Just another project with a shitload of man hours!

Thank you. It does the job but it would be perfect for a low wattage setup. A driver or two up to about 500 watts would be great with this. Just like the dcons or icons deal you guys had before.

Your names are so similar and Im such a douche. I almost did it the other day and caught myself. I even had the thought before I opened this post again because I thought, did I do it? Yup. I did. Sorry dude.

I needed a bench vice anyhow but this gives me yet another use to justify the purchase. Thanks for the tip.

    SAE1200D

I just recieved my SAE1200D from preorder today and I must say its a beast. For an entry level amp, this thing looks mean. Im going to use it on my Z15 v1. Now I will finally be able to do that sub justice. Just gotta watch that volume and keep the gain down. Here is a couple pics. SAE1200D

    Dbl Bellys S10 Build.

That is indeed a nice lid you have there dude. A procap, it looks to be. Tell Scott I'll take a 7 5/8. Thats cool you had a great time in Vegas and met the "dude". I need to see Vegas and that truck! Im waiting till I have enough money and time to go on a 3-5 bender and really do it up right. Maybe have someone film it so I can remember it!

Curious as to where you got that information? Ive always heard its far better to solder your terminals. It's better to do both actually, crimp then solder. Solder by itself is not a great conductor. True. Crimp then solder. Thats usually what I do but these terminals needed mega channel locks to bend em! Super hard to crimp. It was a batch from the local shop. Thats why these only got solder. Didnt know it wasnt a great conductor. That sucks.

    Round port calculations

Im not sure why you think you need four or five ports that large for one 15"Q. A 4ft3 enclosure with a 4" port should be about 6.5" long to achieve a tuning of 30hz.

    Review on 18" BTL

I finally completed my box for my BTL this last weekend and got it stuffed in my truck last night. Its rough and simple and I dont have any pics as I returned my dig cam. I didnt know it took AA batts so I returned it after my trip to Ark. The box is 42W" x 22H" x 22D" w/out any bracing or 45's. Just a double baffle top. It is 7.5ft3 at 32 hertz with 123 sqin of port area. The port is 6 inches wide. It is sub up, port up. I am running a 250amp Mechman alt with a Die Hard truck/suv batt under the hood. I have 1/0 wiring with 8ga. speaker wire. Im currently running a Hifonics BXI2006. This driver POUNDS the lows like Ive never heard before! Comparing it to the 4 12's I took out, its without question pounding much harder. Now it doesnt hit higher notes as loud like my 12's did but it absolutely hammers the lows. The 12's hit the lows very well too, just not like this. I think my already cracked back window is going to bust out here in the near future. Very nice job to the guys at fi. This driver is built like a tank. Exceeded my expectations from the very start. Thise driver sounds so nice and Im very glad I bought this. This is the bass Ive been looking for. Thank you fi. Now I need to get my project going on the MLI-65's in the doors. Changing out the driver side window motor and regulator assembly so its a perfect itme to put in my damplifier lite and get that going.

It is. I think I got the idea from my truck when I ran a dedicated ground from my ho alt to the chassis. I must have carried the thinking over to the geo. Whoops...No problems with the system though. Looks like I have a small side project to do. Thank you.

    Review on 18" BTL

Sad. Lol. Maybe they should be known more as what the acronym stands for. Quality comes in all forms with Fi. iv own fi i got an ssd sitting in my room now but i just heard some ppl say they sound like shit and some ppl say they dont. i want to be happy with my sub These drivers are built to order, right here in the USA. Extensively tested and remodeled all the time. I highly doubt a proper install with a BTL will ever sound like shit. Either those people had that problem or are full of .

You got that right dude. So much bass, you can hear me from 10 blocks away... In all seriousness, nothing cosmetic really gets fixed on this truck. Engine, drive train, suspension, brakes, and...beat. Thats about it.
