I'm constantly debating this. I know they are two completely different drivers, but bare with me. To my understanding, the fi q is meant for serious sq setups. I've also heard that you haven't heard lows until you get one of these. And as the website says, the bl is supposed to fill the gap between the q and the btl. Now, I listen to a lot of rap, and the lowest notes I'd go for are on things like White Girl. and Put on, and similar. I know that classical has ridiculous lows, but I just don't know if I need that. I like to have my music loud, and I prefer the bass to be felt in my chest. (Don't worry, I'm considerate of others on the road) I usually have my volume pretty high also. I like clean lows, but rap lows, not super lows. I'm starting to think the bl would be for me, but I really don't know if I would be upping electrical right away, or getting a new amp. As of now, I have a 2ohm 1000w kicker mono block. Although I'm seriously thinking about getting a new amp. Possibly sundown? Again, I know they're two different drivers, and no one else can tell me what I want, but input is always nice =) Budget is right around both subs, and my music preference is rap. If I listen to anything else, I usually turn down the bass, or there's not much bass to begin with. All this said, I'm also debating icon or xcon. I'm such an indecisive guy

Well, I'm going for a 15 most likely due to trunk space, and I'm building a new box for whichever I choose. Congrats on ordering it though! =)

Haven't been in it professionally, but plan on doing so. Anyone want to share stories on how they started? I'm interested

Help with seeting amp gain
emfk replied to emfk's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I'll do that. Never knew how cheap they were. Thanks =) I'd really appreciate that, but it's a little ways away. I think I'll just start saving money to invest in one. Thanks though -
Anybody know of any shops in Fort Wayne, or surrounding cities that does subwoofer repairs? I can't seem to find one.

Alright, with all the outstanding reviews, and everything I've heard about quality and customer service, I'm getting a ssa sub. But, which? I've thought about going with the xcon, but I just think that will be too much for me. (Possible?) My last sub was a 15" spl sub, but was ridiculously underpowered. The last correctly powered sub I was running was a 12" kicker l7. I want something louder, and cleaner. Would an icon be enough? Take note, the l7 was in an nasty prefab box, and was in the trunk of a 1991 Chevy Lumina. The ssa will be in the back of a 2000 celica, with the right box. So, icon or xcon? I'll be most likely running it on a 1000w mono block from kicker. But, I've also taken into consideration the amp/sub packages you guys have. Alright. Thanks in advance for the advice. =)

Definitely like this more. It's a lot calmer, but also has more character. Good job!

Batcap an capacitors
emfk replied to 1200 bandit's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I still use them, but only because they were free, and I'm too broke to up electrical! =p -
I just watched the beginning like 3 times to make sure, but he turned down the bass knob. If you look closely, before the bass starts hitting in the first place, you can see the gain control on the side of his armrest, and then just around 1:03, he turns it back down.

Thanks for all the input! It seems like it's xcon or bust now. Time to start being a little more thrifty and start saving.

x2 iv done a swap with less power to icons then the l7s that were in my buddies truck and the icons blew it away I was thinking about doing a crx style box. That's really good to hear about the icons blowing away the l7's. I plan on upgrading power throughout time, so do you think it would just be a better idea to go xcon? I've been debating the sundown/xcon combo. Either way, I've already started saving. Being a broke 17 year old is no fun =p

And wanted to say that everyone so far has been helpful and welcoming. Thanks =)

alright. sorry that took so long. the box itself is 34" long 13.5" wide and 18" deep. port is 12" long about 1.5" wide and 17.5" deep. The box itself is a dual chambered L shaped ported box. I don't know what else to add. Any more specifics?

Ok. I've had 2 12" kicker l7's for a while, but blew one due to shitty setup, and not knowing anything and clipping all the time. Now that I've matured in car audio and have learned to respect the sq and not just bump myself stupid, I decided I wanted to go back and find out what the L7 is actually capable of given the right box. Now is where the trouble starts. I have no idea where to start building a box. I really have no idea how to either. Right now, the two subs are in a prefab dual ported chambered box and that is all I know. One sub is blown too, and I have no idea the tuning. I really want to build a new box. I'm not asking for step by step directions, just some good guidelines, and maybe some material I could read up on. Also, if it helps, I'll be buying a 2000 celica soon too, if that gives you any idea of the space. Thanks thanks thanks!

What kind? Sorry.

Well, I'm going for less spl, and more sq. I really want a box that will let it hit lows, seeing as on all the songs with lower bass, such as put on, white girl, and throw it up, the sub would just bottom out, which I think caused the first one to blow. Right now I have a 15" sub, and it hits lows, and I really want to hear that with the L7. I've seen plenty of videos on L7's hitting these lows, so it really makes me wonder.
