Thanks guys, I think I will go sealed and EQ a bit. Should save me some cash too. The smoother/slower dropoff should work better for SQ purposes and I was planning to build a separate ported enclosure myself for future competition.

I was originally going to go sealed 2.1 cuft enclosure for a pair of Soundsplinter RL-p 15"s from my box builder. However, he worked out the specs and told me a 4th order bandpass would work better and worked out a response curve. What do you think? Will this work better for Sound quality purposes? The yellow line is the response for sealed 2.1 cuft and the teal is bandpass response. He didn't give me any enclosure size details except the exterior dimensions... " The dimensions you will want to know about are 31"d, 41"w, 18"h at the front, 4" high at the back, and the horizontal part of the box extends 10.75" from the front, which is the depth needed for the sealed chambers to work out to their appropriate volumes, plus the width of the front panel and baffle. For the purposes of voice coil heat dissipation, I would recommend putting the motors in the vented side of the enclosure. " Opinions?

I feel sorry for ya; But it wouldn't be the first time. I got ripped off of audio equipment and $1K on a fiberglass install by a member here who pretty much dissappeared off the audio scene. Live and learn right?

1/0 wire
bigger_george replied to astein3's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
:PA" target="_blank">Weldingsupply.com is where I got wire from, but their prices have gone up since I purchased. -
I like that look(looks a lot like my RE35.1D heat sink as well) but it's kinda nice to have all the wires and adjustments on the bottom for easier installation.

Does this exist? Help
bigger_george replied to dopey's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have the clarion drz9255. It'll work great but midrange only has a xover that goes down to like 500 hz, so u may hafta use the crossover on your amp to bandpass your front stage. I didn't even know the Ural was ever available here. -
HEAD UNIT
bigger_george replied to shooter69's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Should be all about the same; Mine was integrated with climate control as well as some buttons. It was probably a bit more expensive than yours. The integrated stuff is a pain and quite a bit more expensive but if yours is just to attach the CC, it probably is not too bad for a kit or just to fabricate it. -
Your favorite headunit of all time?
bigger_george replied to Mike Troll's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I just got my Clarion drz9255; it's my fave so far with more crossover capability than the 8053, burr brown, 2 aux-ins(with sensitivity adjustment) and can adjust any individual speaker in the car. I do like the steeper rolloff from the eclipse cd8053 on the highs (even with the background static i had on my unit) but not that big of a deal since the clarion has a "warmer" sound to it. -
The page for Louisiana dealers is not working on the site.

My friend is looking for a new set of 6.5" mids. He is restricted to 2 3/8" mounting depth. Any suggestions for mids or component sets with this restriction? Price is pretty much no object (within reason).

Well, I'm pretty set on buying a new clarion HU. It doesn't have the most flexible crossover built-in so I will need an electronic crossover to go with it. The main feature I need is having the ability to do a 3-way(high,mid,(possible future midbass), sub) setup with the mids lowpassed at 2+ khz frequency. My midbass amp(Eclipse XA2000) only goes up to 500hz so I need to find something. I'm willing to go up to $500 but hopefully I can save a few bucks. Right now, I'm lookin at the digital units but they are pricy. Any other cheaper solutions to this? I'm looking at audiocontrol but having a hard time finding online dealers(not many local and pricy) and Memphis but can't find details on their units.

Well, I can get a new clarion drz9255 off ebay for $788 shipped, refurb for $630 shipped, plus I'm guessing around $50-60 for warranty. Or I can get a new clarion dxz775usb off of sounddomain for ~$245 + external processing unit(ranging from $54-$500). The PPI looks nice but the cheapest i can find it for is $330 off of ebay and from what I read, they have some software issues. Disadvantage to the 9255 is really price, lack of bluetooth option, and lack of red buttons Advantage is ease and flexibility of setup (and good thing it has 2 aux-ins cause I'll need em). Advantage for cheaper HU is i can just upgrade the processor if I want to without spending my whole paycheck now. Tough choice actually; I'm set on clarion b/c of the price/features but for $788 I would have to take a hard look at Eclipse as well. I'm really looking for bang for buck though. -

Thanks, looks nice and very affordable; will almost definitely get that. Any other options will be nice but if that's the best bet and bang for buck, I will go after it (until i can spend more on a digital unit). -
has anyone gotten a chance to mess with the 2007 HUs?
bigger_george posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I'm lookin at a few units with time alignment and won't break the bank. Eclipse and Clarion are the ones I've paid specific attention to. I kinda want to keep my Eclipse 8053 but would like some of the new features like USB/bluetooth. I am looking at HUs with time alignment and possibly a decent crossover built in but not necessary as I am thinkin of getting an external one. Anyone with first-hand experience or links to reviews? -

ell, i don't want to active it completely off the HU. I was planning to get an exernal electronic crossover later on. I would like the crossover to be able to have a higher range frequency to bandpass my rear mids tho. -

Yeah that is the one I'm specifically looking at. How variable are the crossovers? Are they full range? -
Thanks Godsmack! It's been a while since I posted on any site. I graduated and have been travelling, applying for jobs, and enjoying my time off from everythingI just got a job and have a bit of disposable income now. So I figured I'd go back at it. Oh and I live in Louisiana and it's a mazda6 hatch kinda like the one in my banner sig.

Does anyone know any online dealers that build fiberglass boxes anymore for a decent price? I emailed Fisher Audio but they no longer make FG ones. I would do it locally but they charge an arm and a leg for them.

This is for two 15" Rl-p's in my hatch trunk.

anyone seen this amp???
bigger_george replied to natedizzle's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have an Eclipse Calss D but it's not installed yet. If it has problems with those frequencies, I'm gonna hafta EQ it. -
I'd definitely be interested in a 4-channel in 6 months(discount either way is good for me). I would do the 1500D right now but my RE35.1D still works for me
