YES it is safer to set gains via DMM over ears! seriously go set your gain via ears then plug in the dmm and see how close you came! also the SAFEST way to set the gains is via a oscope!! with the oscope you cna see the output wave form and when it starts to clip (look like a square wave) you have tuned the gain to high lol! -
Amp for 18"s
CrazyKenKid replied to Puff Puff Pass !!'s topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Make a compromise that is what car audio is all about, do you want 500 extra watts that are going to be audibly noticeable for more money and more wiring/rcas/remote start wire and take up more space. This is really a personal decision to be honest with, I dont see why a 2500 watt amplifier cant push 1000 watt subwoofers (you dont have to send a sub its rms or more than its rms to perform to its capabilities). x2 less is more and most of the time better for the sub! hell you should get just get a SAZ1000d from sundown! they are on sale right now! Sundown March Sale ! - SSA Car Audio Forum -
well to get a +3db you need double the power or double the cone area in theory... but practically with double the power you gain around 2db's and yes THIS depends on the setup, the box, and what not! so with adding another 500rms (ideally) you could expect 0.5-1db increase~~ although threads like this like to prove the theory of double the cone = 3db's! amp problem to much vibration
CrazyKenKid replied to aimone's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
rubber feet also work! it doesn't hurt! lol! as for your trunk you could still use it if you put the amp in there aslong as you put something over top of the amp so stuff can't leak on it or even put it in a plastic box and use some fans (80mm pc fans) to push the air in and out! look at this pic here when my false floor is closed the fans blow cool air over the top of my amp! (never gets hot) http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q269/CcCrazy/IMG_5133.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q269/CcCrazy/IMG_5156.jpg -
Dual alternator wirinh.
CrazyKenKid replied to Hanapi's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
explain this word fighting? i assume the belt is over both of the alts equally? also if they are hooked up in parellel (both going to the battery + post) have you considered running 1 alt to the rear batteries? maybe i dont understand what fighting means? -
I need some info any and all comments are welcome! here is my setup I will be running: 2-saz2000 2-nsb90's 2-15inch ns 1-h/o alt and the big 3 system potential 4000-4500rms at 2ohm potential current 350-400A now my question is DO I NEED 2 runs of + and - from front to back of my car???? currently I have 1 run of each(+ and -) from front to back of my car but getting another run of each will be nearly impossible! the only way I could do this is to either go under the car (or on top and call it a pin stripe) or I could run it on the driver side but then it will be mixed with my RCA wires. now my question is should I switch my 1 run of negative(-) to a run of positive(+) and be done with while doubling up the ground wires in the front and rear of the car? Also for grounding I want to ground to my cars frame so it would be a really good ground and I would end up drilling though the cars sheet metal and using grommets and sealant. this is going to be my first near 5krms setup and i want to make sure I do it right and double check before I do anything stupid! like I said any and all comments welcome and if you have nothing to say please post in the topic poll! thanks for your time and aid Kenneth

amp problem to much vibration
CrazyKenKid replied to aimone's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
ya i was going to recommend jsut put it in the trunk but for some reason i assume his trunk is way to small (smart car idea) or maybe he doesn't wnat to use his trunk at all but in that case he could simple build a rack and put the amp under the rack that way he can still use the space the amp is using! but that is also why i asked what kind a vehicle he is using! -

fighting each other? explain? and did you wire them in series or parellel? -
amp problem to much vibration
CrazyKenKid replied to aimone's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
umm if you wnat you CAN mount it on the box BUT you have to put rubber then a layer of wood over the rubber then mount the amp. the idea is the rubber will absorb the viberations other then that if you wnat to mount it inbetween your seats i would recommoned making a L shaped braket and mounting the amp on that (of mdf or something liek that) again keep in mind to lessen viberation is key here so you need to MOUNT it to somethign that is strong and not going to move all around! question: 1. what vehicle 2. what amp 3. what sub(s) 4. extra battery(s) 5.h/o alt 6. big 3? -
To be honest with you I thought that they would be louder. I have 35 watts going to them right now. They still need to be eq'd and what not. Over all they sound good though. Dont tell me this, from my understanding and what everyone's been telling me these should peel the skin off your face. same here! i guess a lot of ppl lie to me?
