THAT is one of the biggest reasons I'm doing it. I got the 8's for that reason but it took so long that there's a bunch of people who are doing them, so I decided to find something else different. I also wanted to get away from the limitations the SA8 V1's had, especially the first run like I have. That's awesome that it's still the same weekend. Going to put in for that trip now, lol.

New amp for my sister's Durango
altoncustomtech replied to altoncustomtech's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Yeah but the ZRS is their high end series isn't it? I think, not positive tho, that the Flash series is a level or two above their budget series. Either way I think it's going to kick the ass off the Hifonics ZXi8010 she's running now. -
Thanx man, I'm enjoying the hell out of doing all the sketch work. It truly is a blast. Believe me I'm far more anxious than you about getting this going. I hope to make it for Slamology this year, I'm trying to get dates on a bunch of shows as early as possible which will make it much easier to plan ahead for them.

Oh you know I will. I'm looking forward to checking out the Cadence brand for myself. -

Awesome, hope the amps do you and her well. It will be my first personal experience with Cadence. Thanx on the comment about the pics, though you'd be surprised to they were taken with a cheap lil Nikon L18 in what they refer to as PC resolution (1024x768). They did turn out good, but it wasn't even up on the 8MP it's capable of. I use that small resolution for two reasons, I don't need great detail for these pics and it keeps the picture data size small for quick loading. -
Thanx!! I can't wait either! I'm really looking forward to what this thing can do.

Tell me what you guys think of this..... This is why I have some things to clean up. I wasn't thinking about mounting hole cutout size when I built the frame, so in this pic the spokes go through the MDF. It won't be long before that's all cleaned up and looking much better. Notice, I even have the "SSA Proudly built in the U.S.A." flag sticker on the back of the sub. I'm completely remodeling the sub to clean up some things, but I think this looks pretty damn decent IMHO.

Tuned in bro... Glad to hear you're finally going to be picking up those components that have been waiting patiently for you for a long time now, lol. I take it you got your speaker cutting out problem fixed? I also really can't wait to see how the new enclosure turns out!

my box wont hit anything real low help needed
altoncustomtech replied to atrueOG's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
I can't find the XMAX spec for the L7 subs ANYWHERE, even on kickers site in the owner's manual which is odd. Without I can't calculate the minimum required for the sub, however I have to imagine it would need about double the port area it has now to operate as it should. That would in turn require a larger enclosure to fit the added port displacement. -
ssa amps?
altoncustomtech replied to SMpaintball78's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I wouldn't care where or how they were made as long as they offered the same quality, durability and customer service the subs do they'd be golden. -

According to my calculations it seems as though it's not too far off from being correct, although it seems the tuning is actually about 38hz, it shouldn't cause any unloading issues, which sounds like the problem you're having. That's assuming the port is 3" wide and the 13.5" tall and that the measurements you posted are accurate and actual internal dimensions. That being said, and again assuming the above port dimensions, the port area for that sub seems low, it may not be but it could be causing port noise if it is. Otherwise you could have an air leak that's causing the sub to unload as well. Settings could possibly be off, but if it actually sounds like blowing or huffing air coming from it then I'd be willing to bet it's unloading, the port area is too small or a combination of both that's causing your issue. -
Thanx brother! Hopefully it turns out as good as I'm imagining it in my head.

Okay, I've made all my decisions and will be going with a single 10" SSA XCON with two 10" SSA XCON passive radiator's, thanks to Denim and Nick from Fi for allowing me to pick those up too!! Box is 1.75cuft NET, will be tuning PR's in the 32ish neighborhood. These drawings should give a great idea of what it will look like when complete. Thank you again to Denim for letting me get creative with Sketchup and model the XCON for these drawings. On to the pics..... I've got some more fine tuning to do, work on the paint, interior of the box, etc. to do with it, but this is basically the final design. Thanks for looking.

It might if it weren't flat on the inside. Since the plexi and the ring that holds it in were step cut the same depth it makes the surface of the plexi and the MDF ring level. Thanx dude, and yes it's paint. Humidity ruined the paint job so it doesn't look near as good as it should.

2 DCON-10 D4's or 2 Fi SSD 10's
altoncustomtech replied to jordan.guess's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
to his On the power you have, I'd go with the DCON's or X's, but that's just me. Can't go wrong with the SSD's either, and since it's a JL slash series amp, if you went with the SSD's you could add a second amp later and still cram all the power available out of each amp into each sub. You couldn't do that with any other amp that isn't that topology. -
Trying another design. Angled front this time around. It's still in the 2.75cuft neighborhood if the math is right and gets the viewing window up to 11" of viewing area. I don't have a saw worth a crap for doing angles, so anybody who does some professional box building who's got some insight on this one, please chime in or PM me.

That's awesome to hear, and you bet it is. We need to keep on yelling it to the clouds too. Between the SSA DCON and the Fi X it's hard to imagine a better budget sub that can provide the amount of output at that power level that still sounds as good as they do and offer the quality and customer support that backs them up all in one package. Some may exist, but if they do I'm sure not familiar with them. Glad to hear that you're still impressed by it.

Can't wait to order and get my XCON and XCON passive radiator's!

Come tell me what to spend my money on
altoncustomtech replied to Showdown's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I would like to recommend the DCON or Fi X series subs. Both are great performers and don't need tons of power to accomplish it either. The SA-12 would do you very well also, as would quite a few other's. As far as amps, I'll leave that to someone else. Something like the Sundown 125.2 is a good match for those bridged, but it lacks a sub-sonic filter which isn't ideal if you plan on putting the sub in a ported enclosure. I recently sold and installed a pair of 10" Fi Black Fiday X subs and a Sundown 100.2 in a friend's truck in a prefabbed Memphis slot ported enclosure that he had bought. Those little 10's absolutely kick ass on the 400 watts they're getting, even ran his 'ol lady and her friend out of the truck once. Luckily the tuning ended up in the 30hz area so not having an SSF shouldn't hurt him too bad and he knows how to listen for stress anyway. The point is, one of these lower power rated subs will do fantastic in the right box and won't need a big amp to do it. -
I think the alternate plan would be the better way to go. Having some subs away from the port opening, and others close to it can cause loading issues. You've probably seen it before when watching someone's multiple sub setup playing and seeing things like some subs barely moving and other's moving like crazy all in the same air space just as an example. I talk to a guy on another forum who has ran and is continuing to run into this issue. In his last setup he had four 12" DD9500's and the two closest to the port opening would always unload before the other two. He's got a big 4th order setup for four 15" Sundown SA's now and keeps having air leak issues with the back of the enclosure and the sub closest to the leak unloads before the others as well. I think your alternate plan would do the best at keeping the subs evenly loaded. Then again, I've never had to fight that issue personally, so I could be wrong. BTW, if you want a nicer sketchup drawing to go by just PM me, I'll draw it up for you.

Here's the basic box design for the PR's. It will be 2.55cuft for the 12" XCON and 1.75cuft for the 10". Of course the 10" box will be a bit smaller, but this configuration is about the only way I can fit all of it together. I REALLY want to have some plexi in this thing so everyone can see the sexy ass of the XCON. I'm still hoping the 8's sell soon, I'd like to get the order in for the XCON and the PR's soon. I'm trying to line things up and get this build going again very soon.

whats a good filler to fill in screws
altoncustomtech replied to 2Loud's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
I used regular 'ol body filler on the screws in the front of my enclosure. Works great!
