Great to see another positive review, even regarding the wait time. People are just too used to getting what they want right when they want it. Wait until you get them good and broke in! I love my pair of 12" Q's.

??How can you tell that with the carpet still needing trimmed?? I think you did a fantastic job with the kerfing. It all looks great to me!

to the forum! Why post it up based on curiosity? Everyone here is here because we love audio. In the spirit of what Ron White said, "If you've seen one stereo install, you want to see them all!"

Me? I don't charge a thing.

Yes and thank you so you were correct on what you assumed. I took a better measurement with hatch closed(always taught measure twice cut once), and I got a new measurement of 37" from hatch to back seat. So my measurements I would lke to use are 46W x 24H x 30D (can change if need more or less port room I guess?) 44.5W x 22.5H x 28.5D = 28,535.625/1728=16.5 cu ft.so a box built for 1 18" Icon with those Max measurements? I dont no how box designing/building goes but I'm assuming we would use less space to get something more in the lines of 7 cu ft? That's absolutely correct, only need to use about half the available space. The good part is with that much extra space the enclosure can be designed and built to be well braced and with plenty of port area.
-
You're probably better off getting help with a box design on here and then taking the design to a builder in your area. Out of idle curiosity, can you tell us which of those measurements are width, depth and height? I'm amusing the 56.5" is width, the 22" is height and the 26" is depth but it would be nice to know for certain. I'd be glad to help with the design of the enclosure for you if you like. You've got plenty of space, that's for sure.
-
Optimally it would be ideal to have 1.5 times the port width. For example if your port was 4" wide then you would need about 6" of room. That's just a basic and easy way to remember it. Some guys get fine results with less, it's really something that needs to be tested.
-
You're not taking into account the wall thickness. Wall thickness would be 1.5" total, .75" for each wall if using 3/4" thick material to build the enclosure which is fairly standard. 35"W - 1.5" = 33.5" 24"D - 1.5" = 22.5" 15"H - 1.5" = 13.5" 33.5 X 22.5 X 13.5 = 10,175.625 / 1728 = 5.88867 cuft gross INTERNAL volume.
-
That's only 5.88 cuft. gross. Not big enough from the get go for the 18" XCON, but it's just about doable for the 15". EDIT: You could get the 15" in the optimal ported enclosure with 67.5 sqin (5" wide x 13.5" tall port) of port area tuned to 32hz in those dimensions. Just for a quickly calculated reference.

All things equal there wouldn't be a difference between them musically. However, since you stated you're afraid that you don't have the space to do a pair of 15's correctly then DO NOT do the 15's. There's no reason to buy them if you can't properly use them. Either go with a single 15 or the single 18.

First off is the hierarchy: DCON - Rated for 400wrms GCON - Rated for 750wrms ICON - Rated for 1250wrms XCON - Rated for 1750wrms ZCON - Rated for 2250wrms EVIL - Rated for 3250wrms Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here but here's my understanding of the lineup. The Evil is the only one that's really designed to be an SPL sub. The ZCON is more SPL oriented than the rest but is still designed to sound good. The XCON is designed to be the ultimate best of both worlds driver being equally at home giving gobs of output and sounding fantastic doing it. The ICON is the original sub designed to be an all around performer. The GCON is also designed to perform all duties well but with power levels and price oriented to more modest setups. The DCON, perhaps the most overlooked driver by far, priced and power rated for more budget minded setups can astound with it's output and SQ capabilities. I've personally used/experienced the DCON, ICON and XCON. The DCON is my favorite mainly because its capabilities far exceed people's perception of what a low power driver can do, especially at it's price point. The ICON is easily capable of vision blurring, speech slurring output without sacrificing an ounce of quality. The XCON is like being at ground zero the way it's output can be heard and felt with every nuance of the destruction easily discernible. At least, that's my opinion on the different lines.

Journey - Faithfully is one of my favorites for demoing SQ stuff. As Sean mentioned, the hardest part is finding something that was recorded worth a damn. SO much music out there has been recorded badly and the better the SQ of the system is the more it shows up. Another couple of really good SQ demoing songs are Diablo Rojo and Stairway to Heaven by Rodrigo y Gabriela. Those two do these songs with ONLY a pair of acoustic guitars and the recording quality is done quite well. So far the WORST music I've heard that should be absolutely awesome to demo with is Imagine Dragons. Their songs are great and would be awesome demo material but they're so horribly recorded it makes me cringe at the thought a producer would allow it out of the studio.

Hope you had a Happy Birthday!

Attending my very first SPL competition. Advice?
altoncustomtech replied to tripleb45's topic in Off Topic
Definitely have to have fun lol. Can't be so serious. These guys stole my advice, lol. But seriously, as with any hobby, there's no sense in doing it if you're not enjoying it. Go out there, have fun, learn as much as you can, and most of all have a good time doing it!! -
Picked up this BNIB Sundown SA-15. Probably gonna sell it to a friend of mine for his first build in a few years. Gonna post a build log for him when he's ready. It will be a lil bit before he's got the equipment paid for.
