CLZZ, under new Managment :)

Yes, and I think I'd happily buy something to spend some time with that pair in the pic on the #1 post. Sexy Sexy Sexy pair. I definitely second the girls gallery idea. -
I highly doubt ANY of us are harassing him about the subs. The forums are a great place to joke around and have fun and as far as I can tell that's all anyone has been doing, no one is crying about anything. If any of us were constantly sending him emails about their status then YES that would DEFINTELY be harassing him about them. Like chop said, we're just on here sharing our excitement and anticipation of the arrival with one another. Sundownz came in and said he'd tell us when he knew, and we all KNEW he would without him ever having to say so. We're just having fun kinda like kids waiting for Christmas so if you don't like it, don't read the topic.

You tell 'em brotha chop!

I saw this before. The guy has way too much time and money on his hands. He should give the money to me. -
Yes the Q can give some real output, but it's not designed for it. I have a pair of 12" Q's myself, have yet to discover exactly what they can do as I've not been able to finish the enclosure and now the new amp rack, but I didn't buy them to produce big output. I believe the main reason that everyone says that is because a sub that's more spl oriented will (in most cases) give more output per watt than the Q when comparing apples to apples. That's given optimal enclosures, same amp, same vehicle, yadda yadda yadda, you know the drill. It's just always best practice to purchase the equipment for the intended application. I have NO doubt what so ever that 15" Q treats you right and gives solid amounts of output, I'm hoping for similar treatment from my 12's to impress others but it's not the goal of the system.

Thanks, and we know, it's just that the anticipation is killing us. LOL

I wish I could attend SBN. For that matter I'd like to make it to a major show period.

Just have to remember, the wait will be well worth it. lol

Yeah I know, but the anticipation is giving me heartburn, lol.

How Are Sundown compared to jl amps of equivalent power range?
altoncustomtech replied to Bassin Buick's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
If you purchase the JL from an authorized local dealer, I don't think CS can get much better than having a live person in front of you who can troubleshoot hands on, give face to face advise while your setup is right there in front of them, or having the ability to slide a new product across the counter to you in the off chance you do get a bunk product rather than waiting on RA tags and shipping time. Jacob is certainly a really great guy who treats his customers as they should be treated.....but that isn't something a local dealer can't provide with the added bonus of being face-to-face and potentially hands-on. I think people discount the value a local dealer offers in terms of service and significantly over values "talking directly to the owner" of an (primarily) internet company. As to the original question: Depends on what line of amplifiers you are looking at from JL. Both are good quality products. Sundown is a more generic product from a buildhouse, hence the lower price. JL is a proprietary design with slightly more features built into the higher line of products. The Slash series (and possibly the HD, I don't know for certain) was designed by Bruce MacMillan who also designed such amplifiers as the praised PPI ProMos and Art series. If you don't find the value in the features JL has to offer over the Sundown, go with the Sundown. If you do, go with JL. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed with either. That's great if you have a shop and dealer you can trust. In my case there isn't a shop or dealer I would trust close enough to make it worthwhile for the extra cost over internet prices. That's the one problem with buying local IMO, not everyone has a trustworthy or capable shop nearby. There's rumors that float around here that the local shop here pays some shady characters to steal the equipment the shop installed then they sell it again. That goes along with many police reports and investigations but nothing that ever sticks. This town sucks. /rant Anyway, I'd buy more stuff locally if there was a trustworthy, capable and well ran shop to go to that wasn't 2+ hours away. -
No, they're slower than most government agencies. An update as to whether or not they hit the coast would be good to know if Sundownz even knows for sure.

Who needs a sealed 10 box cheap?!?!?!
altoncustomtech replied to Argent Audio's topic in Argent Audio
I wish I had a 10" just to help out. What may I ask is the new assembly method? -
Yeah she oughta be real happy with it. She'll have to wait in line for me to get my van (2 12" Q's and Sundown 2000 & 100.4 to be installed) and my Jimmy (3 SA-8's, Sundown 1500 and 125.2 to be installed) done before I can get to her. I know, I can't wait to get my SA-8's and open them!! (HURRY UP US CUSTOMS)

Nevermind, reading > me again. LOL

First of all, what are your listening preferences? The Q is really designed for SQ, not getting loud. If you're worried about how loud it will get off of 500wrms then you may want to consider an SSD or BL. Otherwise, 500wrms will be plenty to get the driver moving and sounding good.

yes.... wired in series, which would be positive terminal to postive on first sub coil, negative of first sub coil to positive of second sub coil, then negative of second sub coil to amp negative.... there's a handy little illustration floating around here somewhere....

I sure hope things work out for ya man. I see you have welding skills and are a certified welder. I don't know how the unions work on the subject but could you be certified to weld on pipelines? The pipes are running into the ground like absolute madness. They just got done finishing a 42" called REX (Rocky Mountain Express) that runs from the flats out west all the way to Ohio somewhere and it's not the last one. Perhaps as a certified welder you could find work doing something like that without pissing off the current union?

I keep seeing you mention "clearing", do you mean clearing as in clearing CUSTOMS???!!!!???!?!???!?? If that's the case I think we should all start praying now that CUSTOMS doesn't screw this one up and have them all held up for any longer than necessary to fuddle the paperwork.

4ohm vs 1 ohm ?
altoncustomtech replied to socialstealth's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
From what I understand in many many pages of reading on just this subject the difference on a QUALITY built amp in distortion levels from a 4 ohm load to a 1 ohm load is minimal, measuralbe yes, audible no. Our ears cannot pick up distortion in bass frequencies very well. I could take my o-scope and hook it up to the sub amp on MANY setups out there and see distortion at high listening levels very easily without ever really hearing it when listening to the system. However, those distortion levels while noticable on the scope are in the 1-5% THD range and very hard to hear. Most people who do testing in this field regard 20-30% distortion level on BASS frequencies as audible "IN GENERAL". My O-scope can calculate THD levels (i have no idea how accurate the calculation is) and I've heard distortion at around 10% according to the scope. Even at with that, at 5% according to the scope I couldn't really hear it either so they may have something in that generalization. For higher frequencies it doesn't take anywhere near as much distortion to become audible, but for bass it's just not as appearent. Car Audio & Electronics had an article once on how they did their testing and how those numbers worked, I'll see if I can find it. -
FIRST of all the amp itself has NOTHING directly to do with the number of DB's you can get. The amount of SPL you achieve has more to do with the driver, enclosure and their installation in relationship to the acoustics of the vehicle than the power you run. To say you saw in this forum that AMP CAN HIT XXX.X DB's is worthless to say. Now, if you're looking to get louder it's possible a re-tune of the port may help, moving the enclosure (not always possible) is another way to increase spl. Put a volt meter on the amp and watch your voltage, if it's dipping very much you may need to rethink your electrical. What we need is this: 1. Tuning of your enclosure. 2. Type of vehicle. 3. Placement in said vehicle. 4. Port/Driver relationship. (i.e. Sub up, port up; sub forward, port forward) This kind of info can help us figure out what your setup really is and what ways that we've seen, used, heard of to improve numbers in your situation. Also, where did your enclosure come from? Is it a pre-fab, you built it, professionally built? There's more reasons than you can fathom as to why numbers go up or down in any given setup.

Sundown SA 12s or Lethal Injection 12s?
altoncustomtech replied to Wackzirth88's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
They're both great drivers built by great companies with great customer support. It's really hard to call one over the other. If your listening preference leans more toward SQ then you may want to read the review for the SA-12 on the Sundown website, it's very informative and unlike most reviews on the SA speaks to its SQ abilities. -
That poor little bastard!! LOL That is just crazy for a 200rms rated sub.

First of all, I'd like to thank the staff at SSA and Sundown Audio for putting up with my constant stream of questions and for getting this thing out so fast. After getting this one I'm looking forward to getting the 100.4, it must be a beast too. I can't get over how much heavier the Sundown is than my Hifonics. Based on weight alone I don't know how the Hifonics had enough power supply to it to produce 2kW and I know it wasn't. Thanks again to SSA and Sundown and now for a few pics. Too cool, individually tested before they're shipped!
