Or you could simply save $100, not buy that, and just set the amplifiers settings to match X2 Since you already own an o'scope then matching the amps will be relatively easy. I think you'll appreciate the results of running both the amps at 2 ohms rather than a single one at 1 ohm as well, and you'll LOVE that Q.

should be just fine.... the amp is rated 1750 @ 2ohms.... will move that BTL very nicely... and give you good room to upgrade into later....

That would be completely install and vehicle dependent. It's been my experience that in most cases the more music you think you hear outside the vehicle the more panel resonance and vibration you have. A lot and I mean A LOT of the kids around here think that the louder the car rattles, vibrates and sounds like it's coming apart the louder the system is. So much so that I've seen a few kids purposely loosen things to make more rattle. (NO KIDDING) Honestly though, you really don't want to be heard real easy anyway. All you're doing is alerting the nearest thieves that you have audio equipment for them to steal, or the nearest officer with nothing to do that he has a ticket to write. The other downside to being able to hear the bass very well OUTSIDE the vehicle is that you give a worse reputation to an already troubled hobby. There's plenty of people out there who really don't want to listen to your music. They're busy trying to listen to their own music, talk on the phone or watch television depending on where you're blasting your music. Don't worry about how loud your buddies JL is outside the car. Worry instead about how loud you and him can get on a meter, that's the true measure. If you both get metered and he's louder, then come back and tell us, more can be done to help you with that issue and people will be more likely to help out.

Thanks man, it took too long to get it done, but it's been well worth the wait. The Q's sound absolutely amazing. Thanks!! Thank you. Thought about the LED's and had made plans to put some in originally. Ended up not going with it mainly because I had too much going on when I was trying to get this finished so I just scrapped the idea. I could very well be adding them in the future though, thought about a black light type LED on that orange even. lol, yeah he was lovin' the box. As a matter of fact after the subs were installed in it I put it aside in the living room to work on and finish the amp rack and he ventured his merry little self in and out of there on a regular basis. Found him sleeping in it several times. Guarantee he wouldn't stay in there now while they're playing though!!!! LOL

Is it worth building a new box?
altoncustomtech replied to mikeb890's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Wow, $180. For that price or close to it you could probably have bought a very nice custom built enclosure from any of the fabricators on here. I would suggest, if you can live without bass for a little while, selling the box you have now to recoupe some of your money in it, put that with the money you were planning on spending on a new enclosure and buying an enclosure from Khaotic, Argent or any one of those and you'll be much better off. Building your own is a good experience, but without some basic fabrication experience and some decent tools it's harder to build something that will last with what you have. Sell the box you have and buy a good custom built one is my recommendation to you. -
This will hopefully lighten the load a little for you guys with regard to people asking questions about enclosures all the time. Nice work guys, and thanks JBLCAMRY for your participation in this.

I concur, the sub section is a must. A central location for all threads sound deadening related would be the best way to go. Nothing wrong with a brand specific section, but a general one would alleviate any brand hierarchy or favoritism and make it much easier for people to ask about information on new brands or one's that aren't often used or mentioned. I vote YES.

Vincennes University's Annual Car Show and Cruise In
altoncustomtech replied to altoncustomtech's topic in Competitions & Other Organized SPL/SQ Events
There are some interesting cars every year. One of the things that helps is that there's a fresh batch of students coming in all the time and some of them have some pretty incredible cars. At a show a few years ago a guy took me for a ride in his very well modded WRX and it was a blast. First time I've ever ridden in an all wheel drive car that felt like it was on ice when it took off with all 4 tires spinning. Then there was the kid with an S10 that had bucket seats and the most insane fiberglass enclosure I've ever seen with 3 15" Rockford subs molded into it pointing different directions. He drove around with his arm resting on the magnet all the time. So, yeah, there's some pretty interesting cars and always something fun going on. If you're available you should definitely come on down, and yeah it will be a little cool but it shouldn't be too bad that early in November. -
name some good sets of comps
altoncustomtech replied to RollinOn23z's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
ID CTX65CS would be a recommendable set for that budget. Lots of good comments and reviews on them available here and elsewhere. I've heard good things about the new Crescendo components, a less expensive option. With a $200-$300 budget there's quite a few sets that can come into play from companies like CDT, Focal, Morel and possibly Rainbow to name a few. :EDIT: Forgot to mention, there's Bravox, and they're sold right here on SSA too! Give us your listening preferences and more detail on the goal and more recommendations can be made. The thing about components is that what sounds good to me, what sounds good to you, and what sounds good to someone else can be at opposite ends of the spectrum. Best thing to do is try to find what gets recommended at a local shop and give them a listen in person. That can give you at least some idea as whether or not they suit your listening tastes. -

Chop, it'll be awesome if you make it down bro. The response from others is good as well, maybe we can bring some life to this little event. I'd love to see other forum members sporting non mainstream brands come in and show these hicks what forward thinking innovation really is, lol. All kidding aside, the more forum members that can show up the better. Word about the SSA forum, community and store needs spread far and wide. No better way to do that than to represent at a gathering of gear heads. This is easily one of the best forums I've found and there's PLENTY of people out there who could benefit from the advice and experience available here, especially around these parts. -
Champion spark plugs are simply not what they used to be IMO. I am around A LOT of guys who build muscle cars that are everything from mild streeters to all out strip only drag racers. Most of them use NGK plugs, some Denso's and a brand or two I've never heard of. Most would be embarrassed if anyone saw them with Bosch plugs in their cars. They really don't like them at all. Personally, ever since I used to race motocross I became a believer and lifetime user of NGK. I'd recommend using anything in the NGK lineup, you won't be sorry. As far as the Iridium's, I have a set in the van. There was a noticeable difference in the throttle response and the was a few added miles per tank. That's my .02

Welcome to the forum!!!

Unfortunately the Alton family will not be able to attend the planned festivities after all. First hurdle that came up was the funds to finance the trip. Second was a reschedule of the wife's family reunion. We're now officially out for the count. Hopefully we can make it up for the next IAK get together. Everyone have a great time and Chop, give the little man a big birthday hug from all 6 of us. He's really growing up fast!! Happy 1st Birthday ALEX!!!

epic midbass revised 021.JPG

Um.... I don't think there's a comparison IMO. The XCON will get plenty loud and sound fantatic doing it, that's what it was designed for. The HDC3, well, it can get loud. From most accounts I hear about it, it doesn't sound that great when tuned to the manufacturers specs. Since I have no personal experience, I do deserve to be flamed for such an outright comment against the HDC. However, it's near impossible to disregard multiple reports on the "hollow" and "cold" sound that seems to be common with them while the XCON's continue to get outstanding reviews.

Here we go, 97 Dodge Grand Caravan build, with keepin room for family
altoncustomtech replied to bassnatzii's topic in Build Logs
Yeah, figure we gotta stick together. Keep up the good work. Looks like it's coming together plenty quick. See how it sounds when you're done, but I might recommend getting some cotton batting, like the kind used for quilting, and stuffing some under the unsupported side of the 6.5's in the dash. I can see some possible problems with back wave cancellation the way Dodge designed that dash. The batting should help absorb some of that and help the midbass response. Looking forward to the finished product!! -
Yowza..... can't wait to get my SA-8's in my Jimmy. Looks awesome man!

SSA DCON 12S4 "SQL" Enclosure recommendations?
altoncustomtech replied to THASQGOTME's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
Looks pretty good by my figures. Make sure you do a build log!! -
You will not be disappointed with the output and definitely not disappointed with the sound of this Q. I've only been listening to mine for a short time but absolutely love everything I listen to on them. Enjoy and I'm looking forward to your build log.

SSA Forum is 8 years old & SSA Inc. is 4 years old today.

Congratulations to all you guys, keep up the excellent work. -
I can attest to this as well, without a trunk even. In the van when I first installed the Hifonics system a few years ago I had set it up with the subs facing the rear of the van. While loading definitely played a part, there were lots of colorations and other unwanted effects from the subs firing into the hatch door such as the plastic panels vibrating and resonating. In it, there was very little difference in how loud it was but cleaned it up and got it sounding four times better with the subs facing forward. Aside from that, all my experiences with trunk cars has led me to being a believer in forward firing with the trunk sealed off. On vehicles with fold down seats one must do some extra work for it to work as well. Removing the cover and using a hole saw bit to make those ventilate is a ton of work but well worth it in the end IMO. Just my .02

I like the 3 12's option, but like the number I'm odd as well so it may be best not to pay any attention to me.... XCON's would be excellent to see in there. Aside from their already great repertoire I'd love to listen to some in person.
