My HAVOC 15" box - your views / reviews
altoncustomtech replied to amangujral06's topic in Ascendant Audio
I like it. I can't imagine that there will be any adverse affect on the sound. That's some ingenuitive thinking on that port, can't wait to see the results! -
Hey I'm new and have some questions
altoncustomtech replied to Thekid5678's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
You'd have to take a tape measure and measure the length of the port walls that go into the box. With those measurements we can tell you what it's tuned to. -

Assuming 3/4" construction, it looks like it's 4.21 cuft gross. Which doesn't account for the space the port takes up, but all in all the box sounds like a decent match, though its impossible to say for sure without knowing the port length and tuning. -
Nevermind, another false alarm.... but chop says that Samantha and the baby are doing very well so that's good to hear!!

How do you know when you need bracing?
altoncustomtech replied to Hell-Razor's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
That looks like two subs in an IB configuration, correct? I agree with everyone else, bracing isn't difficult to do, uses very little room inside the enclosure which isn't hard to account for anyway, and just plain won't hurt anything to have in there anyway. -
Welcome to the Forum!! Once you go ported, you'll likely never go back to sealed. If you search around the site you'll find LOTS of good info on building ported enclosures. I believe there's a thread somewhere on the number of cuts and spacing required for a certain port radius which will be handy to know. Also understand that producing a kerf that works will be easiest with a table saw. It can be done without one I'm sure, but I wouldn't want to try it. If you're looking to build your first ported enclosure you might go ahead and try a simple slot ported enclosure first to try it out. I dunno why those guys wouldn't like a wood enclosure, they're so much cheaper, faster, and easier to build than a full out fiberglass one, but to each his own. If you need help with design and tuning there's plenty of us here and available to help with that as well.

Hey I'm new and have some questions
altoncustomtech replied to Thekid5678's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
The crossfire will be just fine on it. Like anything else, watch your gain setting and listen carefully to be sure you're not clipping the signal. The Hifonics amp is a good step better than the Power Acoustik, but as Andrew mentioned, the Audioque 1200 would be a great amp to get for it. If you can find a used Sundown SAZ-1000 or SAE-1200 would be great as well. There's ALOT of call for amps in that power range, keep looking around the forum, you'll find the names that you can easily trust. -
Told chop I'd toss the update on for him. Seems him and the family are at the hospital with Samantha. Though its the third time in a short period, they've admitted her, so this could be THE time. Prayers for Samantha and all during this time!! I'm sure chop will be online to update as soon as he can.

Quote for 2.25cuft DCON enclosure
altoncustomtech replied to altoncustomtech's topic in Argent Audio
That would be just fine. No need to worry about the carpet then. -

Welcome to the Forum!! I would highly recommend looking into another amplifier than this one. Power Acoustik, Pyle, Boss Audio, Pyramid, Legacy, DHD, etc. etc. (the list goes on and on) are all VERY cheap built brands. Reliability is spotty at best and the performance leaves much to be desired on all fronts generally speaking. If you need a budget minded brand to recommend there's Powerbass and Hifonics, although you'd be surprised at the prices you can find Sundown amps at used or refurbished. There's so many good brands out there it's hard to recommend anything without leaving ALOT of reputable names out. A good general rule to remember and follow is the old addage, "You get what you pay for." If $150 for a 3,000 watt amp sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Do some searches around the forum, many many people have started threads in the past asking what the best amp for this or that is. It's fairly easy to deduce the brands to consider by looking at the number of times the same names come up, over and over and over again. -
I had a guy come to me once to build a box for his Kicker Impulse subs and install his setup for him. He wanted the amp mounted on the FRONT of the box, out in front of the subs, made to look like it was just floating there. I did as he requested (and paid for), it looked kinda kewl and lasted almost 3 years before he decided to upgrade everything without ever giving any trouble. I would imagine, if there's a little padding or something between the amp and the wall of the box you'll probably never have a problem with it except for the occasional person to tell you how ghetto it looks, maybe.

Here's a link to a review on the 360, it will help explain what it is, what it does and how it works. 3sixty.2 test report Audison also makes one called the Bit one, and JL makes one too.

I believe you're running into the problems that exist with factory stereo's today period. Lots of the manufacturers will flatten the response to reduce distortion at high volumes and that's ONE of the many reasons the units like the 360, the MS8 and other sound processors exist. You'll need to replace the factory unit or aquire one of these kinds of processors in order to alleviate this problem I'm affraid. I vote for getting an aftermarket HU myself.

LED's connected to Amp outputs?
altoncustomtech replied to Frostedflakejake's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
cheese is right.. the circuits that do the light control are 12vdc powered and use the incoming signal to vary the brightness of the led's by varying the voltage... Also, by using several op amp circuits you can have multiple outputs which will vary their output with frequency and signal strength. There should be PLENTY of audio controlled light circuits available on the web which are actually quite easy to build. Hell, we built dozens of them in my High School Electronics class 15 years ago, I'm sure there's better chips and circuitry for that available now. -

I second what lance said.. If you're wanting them to flash with the music, do a little search on the net. You'll need some extra circuitry to pull that off, but with some careful designing you can make it so that certain lights light up at certain frequencies so that when you play music it looks real neat with the effect the light is moving and dancing.
