Why you should just HIT the damn DEER
altoncustomtech replied to altoncustomtech's topic in Photography
Everyone's gotta understand too, he had time to slow down, at least some. He was maneuvering around two deer that were already crossing the road when a third one jumped out in front of him. If he had braked and slowed down when he saw and began to make his move around the first two he could likely have kept control of the car for the third one or at least not caused near as much damage. He was very wrong to have assumed the two he first saw were the only ones there. -

Damn, wish I had known, I would have pulled you out and saved you the $$$$$. Let me know the next time you plan on coming down. Hadn't thought about EBAY, good thing he doesn't owe anything on it at all. Speaking of EBAY, anyone interested in buying an Ultralight? Thanks again guys, he appreciates all the support. He's surprisingly got very few bruises to show for it either, though he says he feels like he's gone through about a 6 man beat down on how he feels sore all over. Dan, the damage on that truck sucks for sure, but I'm sure my lil bro would rather have a front end like that than the totaled mess he has right now, LOL. Yeah, the corn is doing very well around the house there. Good strong stand should make quite a few bushel. -

On your way to Vincennes? When were you heading this way? Oh, and BTW... Took it to one of the best body repair guys I know this evening. First of all he was surprised we drove it in there after I had told him what happened on the phone. Second he looked it over and said it was definitely a total loss. He was partially hopeful while looking around the outside of it, then he popped the hood. Under the hood he found damage I had previously missed. The driver's side shock tower was BUCKLED, yes buckled. When he found that he slid under the front of the car and found the sub frame twisted, lifted, and screwed completely up along with the locations it mounts to the uni-body. Further inspection found the engine/transmission slightly tilted due to the sub frame damage as well. Funniest part about it was that we drove it ~15 miles to the guys house then around town taking it to show our uncle, his employer, and our sister. All the while with no real problems driving it AND everything such as the AC still working, LOL. Who would ever have figured it? So the hunt for replacement is on. The body repair guy is going to make some calls and see what we may be able to get out of it from some salvage guys he knows. -

Thanks guys he'll appreciate all the moral support... He drives me absolutely insane most of the time, but I still love him, he's my brother. I was actually surprised the car fared as well as it did. I was fully expecting to come up on him being bloodied and the car a complete mess when he called. The fact we were able to put it back on it's tires and him drive it away was nothing short of a miracle. When I stepped it off last night there was about 60-70ft of distance between where he hit the ditch and where the car came to rest and most of the ground between those two points was untouched. He thought he was going about 50MPH when he swerved and I would about agree with that, especially since the distance between where he swerved and wrecked and the road he turned off of was only about long enough to have reached that speed. 50MPH was still WAY too fast though. @ sefugi - Thanks, it's not a bad area to live at all and it's just about right on being remote. It's far enough away that there's not much I could ever do to disturb any of the neighbors but it's only ~10 minutes either direction to a city big enough to consider it civilization, lol. @trod - Yeah, the 18 is the least of his worries now. Though one evil little thought I had is that it would be a perfect competition vehicle now as who the hell would care what the hell happens to it building walls and shit, not like it can be damaged a whole lot more doing that sort of stuff. -
Peak power is a useless number used for marketing purposes, however the RMS rating on the driver is 1750WRMS.

I'm NOT trying to be a smartass here... Honestly, how does it sound to you? I wonder with great curiosity how it sounds with the highs firing down in front of you like that. Sure wish I could check it out sometime just to see for myself. I can't say it's a direction I would ever choose for one of my builds, but I've learned over the years that definitely doesn't mean a damn thing. Over the years I've listened to some pretty fucked up installs (IMO & not my opinion of yours) that surprised the absolute hell out of me on how good they sounded or how loud they got. I tend not to form an opinion until I've seen AND heard it for myself. -

As Mark had said, that's exactly what it means. It's awaiting creation, then transportation, for your audio sensation. It takes a few days to complete and afterward you're in for a treat. LOL, damnit, gotta stop doing that. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you love the sound of the 10" DCON, they are definitely great subs. You can put on a goofy grin tho, knowing you'll have yours as soon as they can get it to you. I'll be looking for the build log!

Yep, I've talked with him a few times, seems like an alright guy too! Glad to see the forum is making it a family affair!! :drink40:

Yeah what i'm saying though is usually when you order subs from sundown they give you stickers, i got mine through a guy who didn't have speakers.. Didn't know if jacob could send me some but if i guess i'll order some from that site you sent me You said you bought them used, right? How could Sundown ensure any stickers could be in the box if you didn't buy them direct from Sundown or an authorized dealer? You might get lucky and Jacob send you some because he's a kewl guy like that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Wow... I've always liked the crazy ass shit you do, and told you so several times I believe. It's different and while not what most people would do, I find it very interesting to see it work. I dunno what's going on, but I hope it all works out.

to the forum!!! Like Luke I'm glad to hear your cuz was able to get help and enjoys the forum as well. On that note, who is he? As previously mentioned, you can like whatever you want to like on here, we're not biased, much, LOL! Jus' kiddin', there's a wealth of information available here and quite a lot of members with lots of experience in all different aspects of audio. I don't think anything you run into can't be handled here, have fun!
-
lol... I kinda figured you'd get the tools as you go, just wanted you to have a good list to go by... As much information that's available on the interwebz, you'll likely not need to buy a book for cross reference and there should be some good tutorials available around the web as well on amplifier basics like theory, operation, design, etc... I got the utmost confidence you'll be able to do it!!!
-
I think it's a wonderful ambition. Depending on the depth of the repair, you'll likely need several specialty tools at your disposal. Dual input Oscilloscope, function generator, dummy load, a GOOD soldering station and supplies, a semiconductor handbook for component matching and cross reference come to mind right off the bat. There's more I'm sure, but at this point in time I can't think of it. I dunno what you know about electronics in general, but some beginner courses would be good to get the basics down as there's quite a few different components to an amp and they all work differently and perform different jobs no doubt, but understanding how they work together will get you that much closer to being able to troubleshoot and repair an amp.

Quick build of box for SA-8 in center console

I love the enclosure!! It looks SCHMANCY! LOL... Very nice and clean looking, fit and finished wonderfully. Also looking forward to your opinions on the SA-8 as well! :drink40: -
I'm gonna try hard to be there!

Plan on ordering tomorrow what amp?
altoncustomtech replied to matj1990's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
What is it with people having no patience these days?? I would rather wait for a product with a long proven reputation than get a product that has little time to prove itself yet. I'm really not putting Crescendo down here, but simply giving my opinion. -
Rattling from new Dcon???

:slayer: Awesome!!! -
I know EXACTLY how you feel Jake. I've had the Sundown amps, SA-8's, and all the gear required for installation for my Jimmy for about a year and a half now, it's just hard to look at that corner of my bedroom sometimes without getting bummed out that it's still sitting there.

I think you found your answer... -
to the forum! Maybe you can find a good used SAE-1000D, or the Audiopipe AP series amps seem to be highly regarded by several people.

WooHoo to the mini-van installs!!! I like the way you matched the curves of the dash and seperated the sections of the enclosure like that so you could do an external port firing forward hidden by the front section, VERY well thought out IMHO. Looking forward to seeing more of your install work dude! -
Thought you guys might find these interesting for a 3" driver!
altoncustomtech replied to Micksh's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Oh, they're very interesting. Would love to play with a bunch of them, though with that price tag it won't happen very soon, lol.
