i did all that stuff. set the gain with no eq's or any of that stuff with a 50hz tone....the whole 9. i went back and added the bass boost later on and its only 4db i checked while ago. i guess i just dont know what clipping sounds like

I dont see how the box is tuned to high if he said it is tuned to 33Hz. Your amp's settings are set wrong and you are probably clipping it also. If your gonna use bass boost you need to make sure you incorporate that into your settings, set your gain with a DMM or O-Scope since by ear is not working for you. i didnt set it by ear i set it with a meter like to the exact number the manual recommended and the jl tech i was talking to. as far as the other settings i talked to several people on here and they all said the same thing as far as the subsonic filters n stuff so i set those accordingly. well i guess now i need to decide which speaker i wanna get because i was at the carwash earlier and some guys heard my truck and ended up buying my speaker lol

it did it when i had it in the box i had built for the sub really bad. i turned my sub volume on the head unit up to make it louder and thought i started a fire lol. so i took it out of that box n put it back in the pro box. the sub REALLY shines on low notes in the box quentin built for it but i guess i requested too low porting cause it took away from everything else.

i have an icon 15 in a 4cu@33hz and even tho the box is kinda big for my truck the lows are amazing. the sub gets lows way better then my T1 did. only thing is i had it in a 3.85@?? im guessing around 40hz and it was a lot louder. the lows werent there but everything else was way louder. overall its the best sub ive had so far

if it happens im in and interested in a xcon

got my icon 15" today , looks pretty good and solid. after doing some reading i wish i would have spent the extra money and got a xcon and sold my jl 1000 n got a sundown amp but i think the icon will be pleasing to my ears :bigclap: ill know next week when my box arrives maybe ill try a xcon 12" and sundown amp in my camaro or mustang if i can get enough airspace nice work ssa keep it up

OMG!!! i have the worst luck ever!!! i was putting my sub in my old box to listen to until my other one gets here and the holes in the rubber surround weren't lined up with the holes in the metal and the drill slipped off n punched a hole in my surround i did get a pic of the sub in the box but oh well

yeah it is kinda senseless to have all that on there but maybe they did that cause its made to be mounted with the magnet on the outside the box too. either way it used to piss me off cause it popped on low notes that caused long excursion

man i'm dying to hook this up n see how it sounds lol. I got a sealed enclosure and a probox super bass enclosure in the closet but imma try n hold out and be a good boy until I get the one from quentin

i was gonna take some but i figured everybody had seen several icons lol but i am gonna get some when i get the box and put it in the truck!!!

i finally made a decision on a sub to go with. im going with a SSA Icon in a ported box, 4cu@33hz and would like some help tuning the amp so i dont tear up another speaker right away. I'm goin to set the gain according to the tutorial on the jl website but need help with the other settings. i already know to leave the bass boost off lol. i mainly need help with the infrasonic filter(infrasonic freq.,"Q",Center freq.) i assume the LP freq should be set at about 80hz correct me if im wrong tho. should the slope be on 12db or 24db, im guessing 24 but could be wrong there too lol. also as far as the lp and hp filters on the head unit do they even have any effect on the amp? thanks in advance for any info. im going to give the sub some break in time before i just all out crank it but wanna get things set right so i dont clip it.

thanks a bunch. im trying not to fry another sub at all costs lol. sucks being without and sucks more having to buy another sub. my T1 only made it a good month
