sooooo heres how the story goes. i got an amp a while ago, the crunch gp 2500d, and then i bought some subs, like the aq sdc 2.5s, but take a little more power (called TF X's if anyone is interested) both dual 4's wired down to 1 ohm at the amp. anyways, i'm underpowering them by a few hundred watts, and i'm looking for a replacement. in my searching i as offered an earthquake ph-d3 for a bit less than 300 rom a friend of mine, but i think he used to use it for spl comps a few years ago. anyways, the amp works great, and at 1 ohm does 3000 rms, so i figure if i'm easy with the gain i'll get the output i need, or i can match my current output at 4 ohms with 1300 rms. my question though is this, my system is designed to be a groundpounder, so its gonna be used pretty much every day. how well will this amp fare as a daily pounder? i've come to two other options as well, the soundstream PCA2000D (used, for nearly the same price) or if i can find one a Sundown amp. i know everyone is probably gonna say go with the Sundown, but that is like last resort depending on these two other amps. so imagine i didn't say that, how would the phd3 do in a daily setup, or should i push for the soundstream? any help will be appreciated guys, thanks

oh ok cool, I thought I wasn't making any friends lol. but yeah, I changed to a HO alternator last year and this year did my big 3, except for my alt to battery wire, I mean I did it, but the other two wires were done in 4 gauge, and that one was done with a run of 10 gauge because the terminal for the 4 gauge was too big to fit the alternator post. I was gonna put another run or two of it when I added the two batteries to make sure there was enough wire. but if adding the batteries will help with increasing my voltage as well then I guess I've gotta wait a little bit longer before I get the full potential out of my amp. thanks for the help jay-cee. -

no need to be fiesty, i was just looking for some information, and i don't see the problem in selling something in order to get something better. no disrespect or anything, but my logic says thats ok. anyways, you are probably the first guy i've ever met who really loves the GP series amps, not that i don't. in any case, i know their power ratings are listed in max, not rms. but how would go about getting my voltage up? in a couple of weeks i'm planning on getting two new batteries to replace my old one, but unless installing two batteries increases your voltage to somewhere around 14 volts, up from the 13.8ish i sit at now, i don't see myself keep the amp much longer. don't get me wrong, its a great amp, and for the couple of months i've had it installed its been doing great. furthermore, could you possibly tell me how i can get the amp tested? would i need to get or find someone with an rms meter or something of the sort? i'm just wondering because unless every 2500D yields the same results i would assume that my amp is putting out 1250, not the 1704 you speak of. that soundstream amp i mentioned from what i read did 1875 at 1 ohm, but the seller says it does rated power, so it makes it hard for me to believe every amp is the same. -
Swapped head units...now what
fresh1 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
whats up everyone? so heres a question that i guess is kinda noobish. i recently had some problems with my deck, and after trying to remount it and clean the laser i decided its time to upgrade, so i did. i went from a pioneer deh-3800mp to a deh-4000ub i had in my other vehicle. now, from what i gather, the 4000 is a more powerful output. that said, when i plugged everything in it was significantly louder at the same volume (35). my question is, should i readjust the gains on my amp? i've been fiddling with the deck (still trying to fine tune this one 2Q 1Q 1W 2W stuff), and i can significantly reduce the sub volume, but i'm wondering, should i lower the gains on my amp to compensate for the more power from the head unit? -
ummm, if the fused tinsels stop the leads from heating up why is it a bad idea? i'm just curious

what up everyone? new guy here, long time browser, first time poster. looking forward to learning as much as i can here

Head Unit Skipping
fresh1 replied to fresh1's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
looks like i'll be tinkering with some of those little foam rings you get in a stack of cd's this weekend -
sooo yeah, basically i'm just looking for some tips to stop my head unit from skipping due to vibration. as it stands now my deck (Pioneer DEH-3800MP), most of the time gives me no problems when the volume is at 35/64, but when i go higher to 40, and sometimes even 38, the bass makes it vibrate and skip. i'm just wondering if there are any tips or better ways to secure my deck to limit this problem. i'm planning soon to double my subwoofer power (getting 2 IA LI's), so i'm hoping to get this solved before that. i've read somewhere that skipping can be a voltage issue and one way to solve it is to go around the wiring harness and wire the deck directly to the battery, so i'm thinking i might try this some time soon, but i know a lot of you guys have crazy amounts of bass so your cars must feel some serious vibrations but i would bet your skipping is minimal if any, so if there are any other ways to stop it from vibrating i'd love to hear them.

i considered that, but the skipping happens some 30-45 seconds into the song, so i figure it is the buffer on the deck running out and then skipping. when i hold my fingers to it and stop the vibration it doesn't skip so i just figure its due to a lot of vibration on behalf of the deck -
i'd like to think i'm still a young kid. i've only been at this car audio stuff for a few years, and when i started it was with a pair of 10''s. it was ok i supposed, but then i got 1 12'' and was hooked. then i got my other 12'' and was even more pleased. it had nothing to do with what the market told me, i just thought the 1 12'' sounded better, and 2 topped 1. if i'm not mistaken the world record holder did so with 1 sub, not sure the size. i think the guys who put in a lot of really big subs do so more for looks than for performance. i'm not saying they don't do it for performance either, but thats just my thought on it. in the end i think it still all boils down to personal preference. but denim you're right in that these beleifs that bigger is better hinders the chances for smaller subs, but what can you do?

2 is better than one. thats why women come with pairs. but seriously i think it has a lot to do with preference, thats why some guys buy an suv and lose all but the front passenger seat and throw in 6 18'' subs

looks really nice. especially the terminals. i've never seen them like that before.

sweet. i don't know what it is but i've been leaning towards the IA's. not sure if its Nick and the great customer service as per my inquiries or just the name Incriminator Audio Lethal Injections lolll. now i just need to get my money in order...darn recession

hey guys, i've been trying to figure out what to do and i'm hoping you guys can help me out. i've been on the fence for the past few months trying to decide which pair of subwoofers i should get for my new set up and i've narrowed it down to two choices, but i can't decide which one to go with. my choices are either 2 Incriminator Audio Lethal Injection 12'' or 2 AudioQue SDC2.512. the crappy thing is i'm in Canada so its tough to find the subs to demo in person. now from what i've read online about reviews for each sub they both seem to be awesome. they both cost about the same. both do 600rms/1200peak though i've read that people have given them both more with no worries. now i've built a box around the specs of the LI's (2.25 net ft^3 ported box tuned to 38 hz) and Nick at IA says it will do fine, but the rep for AQ (DJ) also said it will work. now on the one hand AQ has a reputation of making good stuff and on the other hand though not as well known i've spoken to one guy who replaced his FI Q with the LI and he only wishes he had done it sooner. my question to you all here is, what direction should i go? i'm not looking for strictly SPL, but i'm not looking for total SQ either. i just want it to sound good, as well as get me in the 140s for the summer, which both manufacturers claim i will be able to do. they are going to be in my daily driver so i'm going to use them pretty much every day, so i want them to sound good, but in the summer i'm gonna be competing a bit so i would like to be able to spl it up when i need to. as it stands now i've got two old Cerwin Vega VMax subs running off 300 rms each and i did a 137 (if that helps). please guys, help me out.
