    Looking for some Punch

They're popping then, being pushed to their maximum and just move in and out making a loud obnoxious noise which is sudden once I pass a certain gain volume on the amp, my left speaker did this before until i switch up the terminal (which was already correct anyways). I already hear the signal interference, and thats not whats causing it because the interference does not get amplified.

    Looking for some Punch

Currently I have a 15" Fi SSD in a ported enclosure with almost 4 cu. ft. It is by far an amazing subwoofer hitting very low notes and hitting them hard. Recently however, I bought another 175 x 4 wrms amp and 6.5" component set that I am currently installing. That leaves another two channels that can be filled up with two more speakers, and I'd rather not use it on rear door speakers. My current subwoofer, does not give the desire punch that I want, and I was wondering if I should buy two woofers or mid-bass/mid-range drivers. Will these give me that punch fill that I want in my system, or should I instead go with two 8" subwoofers for punch. Another question is what creates punch in bass, is it certain frequencies that smaller subwoofers can produce better? I have 175x2wrms at my disposal to create punch and would appreciate opinions on what type of speaker I should go with. Here is my system btw: -Pioneer P5100 - 15" Fi ssd subwoofer -Sundown SAE 1000D amplifier - Cadence ZRS6K components -Cadence Xa175.4 amplifier (175x4wrms @ 2ohms & 110x4wrms @ 4 ohms) Car: 2004 Subaru Forester 2.5x

    Looking for some Punch

That is exactly what I was thinking, getting a pair of 8" midbass drivers, I will wait until the install is complete, and keep you updated to see if my car still lacks. As for what exactly is punch..., I still can't describe it and was hoping someone could help me define it. All I can say is its that deference between the bass you hear in a 15" sub in comparison to a 10" or 12" sub. The reason why you think it is a difference in sound between your 15" and 10" or 12" is because of your settings more than likely, when your done installing get at us and we will be able to help you if you still need it. Good luck with install and dont forget to take pictures and post a build log for us. Pictures on SSA = Alright Well I've just Installed the new speakers and I properly set the filters on the subwoofer which I can say sounds a decent amount better now. However from installing the new speakers I have several new problems now... here goes: -Have some bad peaks and valleys -Lots of rattling now =S -Speakers clip when I set the gain past a certain level even with volume completely off, preventing me from properly setting the gain -Speakers are picking up a lot of outside noise whew so yea, it need some fixing. The speakers picking up outside noise is from using home audio wires... yea poor choice but it was what was readily available and I didn't think it make much of a difference... I was wrong lol. And of course my car needs to be sound dampened to cancel out the rattling. I think the speakers also need to break in first to help smooth out the peaks and valleys that I hear currently. As for the clipping I have no idea why its doing such, thats where I need some help on. The punch has gotten better, still slightly lacking for my tastes but I can definatly make due with it for now, but still am interested in buying mid-bass speakers later on. So that's the update.

Cars currently in pieces right now, with the receiver and paneling taken out so that I can run the new wires is all, plus to access my new amp i need the current subwoofer box taken out. I can hear the subs fine, its simply a different sound between a 15" and a 12" or 10", it has more punch, my guess would be those frequencies around 120hz maybe? I guess its somewhat hard to describe, and your right I need to first reconfigure my current settings before I can say anything else. Well yeah thats a little high for your subwoofer to be playing, I would lower it to about 100Hz for now and look at where you can install some components or midbass drivers to compensate for 100Hz on up. yea so i was thinkin of going with CVLW either the 10" or the 8" speakers, but I would like to know of any other brands that sell midbass speakers, where else I can look. Another possibility is the Dynaudio Esotec MW 172

Makes sense, unfortunately I wont be able to hear my subwoofer for another couple days because I'm in the middle of installing components and a amp. However how would I go about adding more punch if I wanted to?

    Looking for some Punch

33hz, and i set the subsonic to about 50hz and the LPF to about 250HZ, they're amateruish settings I just did what sounded right. Your subsonic should be set to around 30 hz or so, just a few hertz below the boxes tuning. Your LPF should be no higher then 80/100 hertz, depending on your preference. Thanks for that =) , actually was another question of mine that I've been wanting the answer to. Will this help create anymore punch jw?

Audio System In Process, Needs help.

is a Cadence ZRS-6KS good for my style of music, because I think thats what I'm going with? I'm not to sure how they sound anyone know?
  11. Alrite, I've been reading these forums daily, looking at build logs, and can now hopefully put together my system that has been long in process. It has been slowed down due to my original car which I planned to install the system in being totaled because of some careless lady who pulled out in front of me... whatever I'm sure you guys dont care much about my life problems heres the audio situation. My current system consists of... Fi SSD 15" Dual 2 -- 3.7 cu ft ported enclosure tuned to 33hz (built it my self, came out great =) ) Sundown SAE 1000D Pioneer DEH-P5100UB Not much yet... I know I still need the amplifier install kit, which I will be buying soon. This is going into a 2004 Subaru Forrester, which has plenty of cargo space, and 6.5" speaker holes on the door which can change =). I listen to mostly rock and house music, and prefer a combination of spl and sq, leaning a little bit more to spl. My plan is to eventually add another 15" fi ssd, + add a decent component system accompanied by the proper amp. I want to get list of everything needed and recommendations of what to get, and which takes priority so that I can slowly put this system together properly. Here is so far what I believe I'm going to need to put together my target system, and my target spending for each. (prioritized on to do first to last), - in-line fuse, and ring terminals for 2 guage wire ( I have 50ft of 2 gauge wire, and am having trouble finding matching equipment for it, need a place to look)............ <$150 (if I should just buy a 1/0 gauge kit) -6.5" component set -- need a good suggestion, thinking of going with boston acoustics still unsure ......... ~$200-300 -4 way amp to go with -- either a sundown or memphis +100Wrms x 4 amp (or whatever you suggest)............ ~$400 -$500 -proper deep cycle battery to replace-- thinking kinetic KHC2400............$300-400 -220 amp alternator -- need a good place to buy a reliable one of these...........~$300 -1/0 guage alternator installation kit for the big 3..............<$100 -another 15" fi ssd -- (I'll figure the box im gonna make later, and buy a design at fishercustoms)............$230 -1000 watt amp to go with -- sundown/memphis/PG is what I'm looking at (1000Wrms @ 1 ohm)..............$400-500 -power distibution block for the 3 amps -- need a good place to buy a reliable one................~$50 -active crossover for the 2 subs -- totally unsure of what to get here need suggestions.............<$200 -some sound deadening for trunk and doors -- secoundskin looks like a good choice..................$200-300 and thats all I can think of right now, so what I'm asking is for your help to finalize this list with what exactly I should get according to budget and where to look for it. ya its long but I'm looking for anyones opinion so please comment, suggest, or flame the shit out of me for being a noob, whatever I just want to get this list done, and start buying what I need. oh and a quick question, -does a larger subwoofer have a slower response than one that is smaller, for example will a 15" subwoofer be more off beat in a fast paced bass beat than a 12"? This is what I was told by a car audio salesman, but I am still unsure....

Audio System In Process, Needs help.

ya thats what I thought, its more a mater of the motor quality than size, i knew that guy was wrong... and he talked to me as if I were stupid for getting the 15's lol... anyways I plan to upgrade to 1/0 gauge in the future, but the 4 gauge is just for my 'short term' system.

Audio System In Process, Needs help.

alrite, I bought a 4 guage amp kit instead of revolving around the 2 ga wire that i got, so i can cross that off the list, went to knukoncepts for that =) nice and cheap for what im getting. next is the components

Audio System In Process, Needs help.

Ya ssd is awesome =). I just can't seem to find 2 gauge ring terms or inline fuses at all, so i think I'm gonna have to go with a whole new amp kit instead, 4 ga. should work. As for the components, your right I don't want anyone choosing it, but I would like some brands to look at because I dont know many for comps.

    Anyone good with photoshop?

I'm decent, what do you need? and how is it audio related?

  17. I've been planning to build a sub enclosure for a 15" Fi SSD which has recommendations for a box voulme of 3-4 cu ft at 33hz. Here are my demensions, this is my first build by the way so help is appreciated Box Width: 38" Box Height: 18" Box Top and Bottom Depth: 15" Wood Thickness: .75" Square Port Width: 3" Square Port Length 2: 8" Plug these in at http://reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html and these demensions seem to give me what I want, considering sub displacement will be about .8 cu ft Sorry I cant load up any pics right now, If you want I can load a pic of the calculater details later.

    My first setup

Well im new to car audio, and have been wanting to install a sub along with a new head unit replacing the stock one I have. After hours of looking around and asking I've finally come this being the starters for my first install 1 15" ssd dual 2 ohm & copper coil Sundown SAE/SAZ-1000D Pioneer DEH-P7000BT its a budget setup for my 1999 mazda protege, and I usually listen to rock and club/house music, and am aiming for an inbtween of sq and spl, yet leaning towards spl. so tell me what you guys think, does it work?

    ~The Right Sub~

Alright I'm new to the game of car audio, but currently my car audio system.... sucks, unable to hold any of the music I listen to at the loudness I want...expected of course but a new system is needed, and i plan to do the whole system from start to finish I chosen a receiver that seems to suit my needs already and plan to purchase it soon, but I am completely unsure of the subwoofer I want, I listen to rock, and A LOT of electronic (house, dance, etc) and that means I want my bass to hit hard but at the same time it needs to be fast and keep up with the fast past music i listen to. However I only want it to hit hard due to the style of music I listen to, but also prefer pretty decent SQ, I do not need not need to be blown away by dBs but simply want a more in between SQ - SPL leaning more towards SPL. This will be for a 1999 Mazda Protege with a soon to be installed pioneer deh-7000bt receiver. I also need it to be somewhat mainstream, because I am planning to purchase it off ebay it can't be a custom deal. I'm willing to spend up to $150-200 on it through ebay meaning the retail price should be around $500. I have been researching subs for hours already, and really had no leads to finding the right sub, whenever I found something I like I found something wrong with it, so help would be very much appreciated. Simply where to look, suggested brands or just articles I should read first are fine, but an exact model would be great. Thanks for reading hope for some good suggestions =) Oh and if there any more info you want I'd be glad to share.

    My first setup

yea I'm buying a used SEA 1000D ya its outdated, but It seems very close to the cousin SAZ, and much cheaper, plus it still has 1 1/2 warrenty left so it seems like a good buy for $260 but yea the specs on the amp as far as I know are pretty damn good adding a crossover with this seems excessive and unnecessary.

    My first setup

wow... what a deal.. thats hard to pass up, what would my second choices be ssa dcons or insciminator lethal injections... its a hard choice becuase i want those fi's badly and i was looking forward to making my own enclosure, good learning experiece... but its such a good deal lol... idk what to do

    My first setup

ya ported is what I wanted to build I've been searching and searching for help in that, any suggestions as in help to build the right box? I know I need about 3.7 cu ft but can I just use what ever resonable demensions I want or do i want specific box demensions (not talking about the port width and length but a good place to figure those numbers out as well would be helpful)

    ~The Right Sub~

Alrite than I think I'm going to go with a single Fi ssd15 or ssd18 than, and come back and upgrade with another, I think these are the perfect speakers and are extremely affordably, few last questions is it worth it to pile on the upgrades flatwindcoil, coppercoil, BP power and what ohm selection should I use? Also where can I look up some recommended box dimensions for the sub?
  24. bedbreath

    ~The Right Sub~

well than its between a fi (which ever is most recommended) and a mach5 ixl, which should I go with, and what specs should I look for/add 12" ... 18"? or dual 10s? which configuration do you suggest that remains affordable
  25. bedbreath

    ~The Right Sub~

well which will serve the purpose the best, and what is the specific purpose of each, sorry if its fustrating lol but as you can see im a complete noob at car audio and im lookin at the injections right now
