Who likes building Monster PCs?
inkfx replied to shizzzon's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
I doubt ECC memory will clock well at all. ECC modules are for maximum stability. They aren't going to be as fast as non-ECC due to the error checking. That memory is meant for a server environment, where you can't afford to have any mistakes. What kind of budget are you working with? I think a nice Core i7, some tri-channel memory and a nice harddrive array is what you want. You may also want to consider picking up a Mac. OSX is going to be much better when it comes to your video encoding. I usually don't recommend Macs because the hardware comes at a premium but they will churn through your encoding much better than a Windows based system. Unix > Windows. -
I'm wondering the best thing I can do to help my situation. It's been ridiculously hot here in San Antonio this summer and my SAE-1200D just isn't taking the heat well at all. My Cadence TXA1000D never had a problem but I guess with the extra power this SAE has the heat is causing trouble. The amp gets VERY hot to the touch and after a while goes into protect. At first I thought I had a problem with the subs cause they would make a strange noise before shutting off but it cuts out even when my HU is paused so I don't think I have a subwoofer problem. Maybe mount something like 2 120mm fans on the bottom of the amp? How would I hook those up? Just wire them to the power/ground of the amp? I've also seen some people say mount them on the sides of the amp; would that be better? I have a bunch of extra case fans from my computer in all sizes so I have access to the fans no problem. Just wondering if that will help my problem or not.

Did they still work with that heat? Or did you see any problems later down the road because of it? I could cook an egg on the top of mine. I went for almost an hour long ride last night and didn't have a single problem. So I guess my suspicions were right about the heat. My car thermometer only read an outside temp of 83F last night. During sunlight hours, it doesnt go below 100F. So I think I will just end up moving it into the cabin until this summer heat goes away. That way it can enjoy some AC instead of being sealed inside the ridiculously hot trunk.

I'm just starting to think with the heat, the fans wont do much. My wiring is 1/0, ground is fine (have the spot sanded and am using brass screws/washers/bolts), the gain is set to a little more than 1/2 of the way. although im getting the problem even if i set it a deal lower than that. im pretty convinced it's a heat problem. the subs sound and play fine, then after a few minutes it cuts out. since the sun has gone down, i haven't had them cut out. is anyone else here in TX having problems with heat?
-
I think I'm actually just gonna move it to the inside of the car for the summer. I just don't think fans are gonna be able to help me move/eliminate the heat in my trunk.

I've never seen them before. Really? Wow. Everyone around here has them, in every size shape and color. I'm just so done with them. I guess the only plus is you can get them in 24s for like a G, at least here you can. Not worth it though there are a lot of better lookin wheels out there.

Blades are played out. EVERYONE has them.

I'd pick the Lincoln over the Crown Vic purely because the Lincoln is a luxury vehicle while the Vic is more basic. If you really like the Vic's body style then see if you can find a Marquis. As for rims, I'd put 20" swangs on it.

That's a good presale. I almost paid that much for mine used a few weeks ago.

Time for a new battery.

A yellowtop will never hurt, have you done the big 3 yet? No, I haven't done the big 3 yet. I do have spare 8ga wire but I was thinking that might be too small to be worth it. Once I get the money I was gonna pick up some extra 1/0 to do it. But I'm not sure how soon that will be. Shoulda gone to Sears and gotten a Die Hard. More power in the same case.Friends and family night is actually this Sunday starting at 6, you'd get 10% off. Wish I would have known that before. I wasn't getting many suggestions so I just went with the Yellowtop. Hopefully that will keep me happy and do fine with my SAE-1200D. -
I've been having problems with my stock battery and I want to replace it. So I want something good to replace it. I just measured and I have a max 12" long x 7.5" wide. I'm just a little unsure what to go with. My budget is around $200 but I don't mind spending a little more if need be. This is my first battery purchase so I'm not sure what the best place to order from either. I was thinking a Kinetik 1800 but I'm not sure, I just don't want to make the wrong decision and regret it. Appreciate any help.

Well I grabbed a Yellowtop from Autozone today. Was only $189 with a free install. Voltage is more stable and my car isn't stuttering when I turn it on anymore. -

My stock battery is only 7" high but I think I could get 8.5" max. If it comes down to it I may just have to throw a bigger battery in the trunk. I'm going to get my stock one tested at autozone to see if I can keep it up front and throw a spare on an isolater in the back. -
This is the first time I've used a remote gain, so sorry if I'm just being stupid. Anyway, I just got it installed and have my gain on the amp set about half way. Now every time I start to turn the remote gain, I get a pop from my subs. Why is this happening? Is it my ground? If so, I'm not sure how I could make it any better. The ground is secured to the chasis and I sandpaper'd the area where the ground makes contact. I'm also using brass screws/bolts to secure it. I'm just a little confused here.
-
Yeah I'd say definitely get a new alt with an amp like that. That's a lot of power and your stock setup will not be happy about it.
-
I tried unplugging and replugging it in a few times when it was first happening with no success. I just got done retracing the wire and it's in perfect condition. It would be cool to get a replacement but I'm not really counting on it. I also think I remember seeing a thread not to long ago that Sundown was out of the remotes. Can I use a remote from a different amp? I think have my old Cadence remote laying around. I never used it since it controlled the bass boost on the Cadence amp.
-
Anyone else have ideas? Or is it most likely a bad remote?
-
I can't message you, so you will have to send me a PM. I'll give you my number and we can meet up wherever.
-
I don't have another remote to test it with unfortunately. The remote I got came brand new from a SAE-1000D. I guess the wire or something is bad. I wonder if I can get a replacement? On a side note, I see your from SA. I'd love to hear those BLs sometime if you have some spare time. Tried to PM you but it's not letting me send you a message.
-
It's the subs. The pop is like they hit real quick just once every time I move the knob a notch. It happens wether I'm playing music or not. Without the gain remote everything is fine. I only have a problem when adjusting with the remote.

They have the Fleks cable available. Either by the foot or as an "amp kit". If you really just don't want to spend the money on the Fleks the KLM will work.
-
Since the amp has 1/0 terminals I'd go ahead and go that route. Especially if you're looking for the full potential of the amp.

Is my AMP GONNA BLOW!!!!!

Very good post. -
What would be a good amp to use?
inkfx replied to ML91's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
For that price I'd probably pick up the AQ1200D since it is cheaper. The SAZ-1000D and AQ1200 will both do about the same power. If you can find a SAE-1200D go that route but they are harder to come by now.
