2011 GTI active double din
emh9009 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Hey guys! Looking for help on picking a new head unit. I've found a few, but want to see what the experts have to say or what else can be found. Will be installed in a 2011 GTI. No steering wheel controls. Base model. Requirements: Internal active crossovers Somehow able to mirror or have a really clean connection with my Android phone to where I can use apps like spotify and google maps on the unit. Don't want to have to touch my phone while driving. Double Din Dial volume knob, preferably one that "clicks" for each volume tick Ability to hook up back up camera Doesn't look too crazy Possible to keep it under $400? I don't care about CD playback, different color choices are nice. I've been looking at this, but it doesn't have the volume knob. No biggie, but wanted to see if there was anything else out there that can compare. https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX/MVH-2300NEX I've read both good and bad about their x-over systems. Heard they're just a DEH80-prs in a double din box, but also that they're no good and shouldn't be used. I want to keep the x-over system internal just for ease of install and use. If not internal I'd go with a mini-DSP 2x4 from what I've found. Is this really that much better? Thanks in advance! -

I'll check their line-up. Would be nice to have sub amp incorporated as well. Thanks for the heads up! Having to use a laptop doesn't bother me at all. As long as the program isn't too difficult to navigate I'm ok to set and forget. I don't plan to get too crazy detailed on this, I'm easy to please. -

I was hoping you would chime in, and figured that's what you would say haha Which external crossover would you say is the most user friendly? I've seen the mini DSP thrown around a bit, any others out there to take a look at? -

That's not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate the feedback on that one, Aaron. That's similar to what I'm dealing with my current unit- takes for ever to connect to my phone so I just do it manually EVERY time. Also just random connection drops and have to disable BT and reconnect manually again. How do you like the crossover features on that 4800bt? -
That was my first plan, but they're outta stock

Looking to purchase a NVX 800.4. I live in 98363 WA, so shipping is almost a must. Let me know what you've got, thanks! Got an amp on the way

Still wish I was able to pick one of those JBL amps up when they were being liquidated or whatever a few years back. Bump for some great gear!- 24 replies

The RE, yeah, but That's not weird at all. They're either dual 1 or dual 2. Don't worry about it.

What do you mean, "odd coils"?

This is sweet! Nice job to everyone involved. Look forward to seeing the pricing and using one in the future! -
Your enclosures were always pieces of art. Loved the build logs you posted. Glad to have you back, with what seems to be a fairly clean bill of health!

This is a new spl device that Adrian has been working on to bring to the market!

Term lab isn't exact either so don't sweat it. Just because something is a "standard" doesn't give it any credibility for being scientifically correct. What you need is relative repeatability with a somewhat linear FR. The rest doesn't really matter. Exactly, I don't get why people don't give credit to a score just because it wasn't measured with a term lab. Too often I see scored posted from a SPL lab just to get told it's wrong/unofficial because it's not term lab. Op, glad to help!

Close enough, I'll be looking forward to what you have done

FINALLY! Give more of an update!

Used both. If I was to buy one I would go SPL lab just for the price. They're close enough. You don't need EXACT term-lab results while testing to see gains or losses, just something accurate enough to notice the change. You can find side by side videos of both meters. they're pretty damn close. I also like that you can talk to Shizz on here and get any questions answered quick, or help with any aspect of the product.

Either that or the SPL labs meter. http://spllabusa.com/us/products.html

Not sure. Was it ever reconed?

what's written?

Sad to see that only numbers change your view of the build. That shouldn't be a reason to take everything out.
