    Homepage Major Upgrade :)

updated! Aaron got them too me already. Finally on there.... Sound Solutions Audio - XCON Series Subwoofers How come the specs are the same for the 12 and 15 inch versions? Typo or perfect engineering?
  2. I would like to know how many or even if anyone uses a 4 inch aeroport for a 12 inch sub without any problems. Reason i ask is because i built a 2 cu. ft. box for my audiopulse axis with a 4 inch aeroport tuned to ~34 hz and it sounds fine, only up to a certain point though. I don't like the noise it makes, i guess that's what chuffing sounds like and i can't stand it so i turn the volume down. I was also only using a saz 1000d on it with absolutely horrible electrical so there's no way i was reaching its limits with it's insane power requirement. Now i know for a fact that that's not enough port area but i would still like to know if anyone uses a 4" and gets away with it. I'm building a new box for it: 1.85 cu ft. with 32 inches of port area to make sure that i don't hear that sound again.
  3. This is my new box. I can never stay on topic.
  4. I'd have to add them externally as they would take up too much room in the current box but that's a no go anyway since it's scrapped.
  5. I'm building a new one. I'm just curious if anyone uses a 4 inch for a 12 inch without port noise.
  6. It doesn't need 2,000 watts to "reach its fill potential" That's a moronic way of thinking. You sound like Steve Mea[)e why do you have steve's name in you mouth???? I got into an argument with him about BTL's, he said it NEEDS 2,000 watts to get loud. I said no. That's because they need 4500 watts to get loud. 18000 divided by 4. Seems reasonable enough. jk

I got my new xcon YAY! here is my short review.

Any specific music you were playing?

You should use the old btl baskets as your rims.

    jfin1204 feedback

I bought a saz- 3500d and a sax- 100.4 from him and they are in excellent condition, not even touched. He packaged them sufficiently and it's good that he did because the box was a little torn on the saz- 3500d ( gotta love the delivery guys). As soon as he received payment he shipped the amps out to me and kept me updated the whole time. A+ seller, if the opportunity arose i would definitely buy from him again. On to the pics Box is a little beaten up but the amp is fine

    Okay. Happy Thanksgiving to everybody.

Best amp for SSD 18 under $200 ?

Yeah stay away from the boss audio. I had one and it didn't come even come close to rated power. 2000 watts at 1 ohm and it only had 4 gauge power wire inputs, yeah right. I ended up blowing it up with a seal bomb, that's the most enjoyment i had from that amp.
  12. Exactly what the title says, how many? I've joined two: ssa caraudio

Wrong time to sell, or asking too much?

What point are you trying to make? He posted in General, he is just trying to figure out why his stuff isn't selling. Oh. Sorry. I have to learn to read the whole post before making a reply. Completely my fault.

    You must read.
  15. I've heard a few subs make a funky sound when more power is applied to them that just doesn't sound like the bass the artist put in the song. On low volumes its fine. On higher volumes It sounds like the sub is puking. I hate that sound and i turn the bass down to when its gone. I've heard it mostly on punchy bass, long drawn out bass is usually fine. What causes this, is it when a sub exceeds its xmax or is that overrated in knowing what the sub sounds like as well? That's my only guess. I haven't heard lots of different subs but all the ones i heard did it.

funky sub sound when power is turned up

No no no. I'm asking more of a general question about all subs rather than my set up. However my sub made the sound with settings on headunit at : bass = this did not control the bass to the sub but to the door speakers. bass boost +5 Loud = off Sub level +5 Amp settings: gain = 3/4 lpf= 80 hz bass boost = off ssf = 30 hz box was tuned to 33 On low volumes this was fine but as i turned it up it distorted so i changed the bass boost and sub level both down to +1 and i was just fine. The reason i asked my question is i've heard my friends set ups and mine and heard the same sound with punchy bass and wonder if all subs do that. I think it happens with the amount of power going to the sub regardless of headunit settings. Headunit settings just send stronger signals to the amp which makes the amp put more power to the frequencies which the settings govern, i think. We hooked up my sub to a pretty strong mtx amp with all headunit settings at 0 and no bass boost on the amp and my sub went crazy, making the sound i hate. Is this post xmax distortion? I put too much emphasis on that spec. All i need is a yes or no type answer. Maybe im just too picky, my friends don't seem to mind the sound.

    subwoofer unloading

I know that subwoofers unload under tuning frequencies in vented boxes and i was wondering what makes this happen. What's the physics behind it? I tried searching for the answer and everywhere it says the same thing, subs unload under the tuning frequency. I already know that, i want to know why it happens. Thanks in advance for anyone that knows.

I think my friends bsing me

ha ha. I've got a friend that drives one of those and that's what we always say.
  21. i was wondering what kind of glue do you use?
  22. playmysong

    hmmm 4/0 ?

weldingsupply.com has 4/0 gauge for cheaper than that.
  23. playmysong

    s/n ratio?

what should i look for in a good amp? If you look on it and it says sundown, then its a pretty good amp.

    subwoofer unloading

Mike recommends 800 for ported boxes when they're regular sized so i probably reduced the mechanical power handling even more. I keep bass boost at 0 and have the gain at around 3/4. The pioneer deh p440 comes with a modest 2 volt preout. Although the box is a little big I have no problems with it. I watch the volume and so far i haven't heard any bottoming out or distortion since i fixed the settings on the headunit. Im going to build a new box to the right size so that should make my sub a little happier. And by the way we're off topic. I got what i wanted to know and my sub has no problem in its current box.

    subwoofer unloading

My box is only slightly bigger ( by .3 cu. ft.) than what my driver likes and it only needs a 1000 watts to power it. I don't have many problems with the saz 1000d. I have my ssf set somewhere around tuning which is 32 hz so im not in any risk of damaging it unless i turn up the gain but i can hear when its screaming from pain. I only asked my question about unloading because i was interested in WHY subs unload under tuning frequencies, i know that it happens, its just a rule of vented enclosures.
