    Trunk 4th order build

Putting in the majority of the work today on my 4th, going for 1 to 2.75 ratio. Could go larger or smaller. All of it will easily be modifiable tho. Dry fitting it now and using a pocket hole jig more the majority of the build. More pics to come after i pickup a few more 2x4s

    Trunk 4th order build

Thanks, going to build up the side walls Saturday since the foam has stopped creeping and seems set. Hopefully it will be playing next weekend
  3. Yea the sp4 is a relatively weak motor for what it is. With what my car likes, running ported with dual 15s tuned low is not a option unless its single 15 then i can have it peaking down at 31hz like last season. If the etho would work in my old single box it was tuned to 36 but did a 51.1 at the headrest at 31. Running these subs sealed i only lost a half db but bandwidth and control increased 10 fold. Ill be cutting them down for a dual 12 4th for Meca since opened up she likes a lower peak.
  4. So my setup consists of 2 Ethos 15s on a HD-8000 in a 03 impala. First try at the setup was a 6 cube street box with external ports tuned to 39hz. Musically fierce but with a flat response from the lower 40s to 50hz. With a slight peak at 47hz. I metered at 48 sealed on the dash in this round of testing. Typically i run MECA and my car has seemed to favor being open to meter in the past. For a daily guy i could see it doing much better with a low 30-32hz tuning for some good daily listening. Now to try something different i pulled my ports off and made some plate covers. Just wanted to see if i could get a better low end response. It did pick up alot more low end with a smooth roll off in the low 30s. Tried a few 28hz peak and 29hz peak tracks and it didn't have much output but the speakers didnt seem to be suffering. Now as i started playing into my previous usu-able bandwidth it seemed the speakers came alive. Amazingly in the 44-49hz peak range it became super intense. Gave a friend a ride along 30 minute heavy demo of a few tracks and to my surprise the subs remained very cool to the touch were as the ported setup would heat them up a little quicker. Which could be controlled by lower rise= less clamped power. Regardless the output was noticeably stronger. Which i Will update this thread with new numbers with the sealed box. Over all, for the price unbeatable value. Great sounding speaker. Top notch customer service. For the average guy that does not care about the meter id do a daily setup 3-3.5 cubes ported depending on power available. Lower power for a slightly larger enclosure. But for the best experience id go with a sealed enclosure or a 4th order. The entire line has a low Fs and a reasonably high Qes. Im doubtful there is a better suited sub in this power range on the market for it.
  5. This build was done around the car for a different set of subs and not the ethos. This is a review on what i did with them please keep that in mind. If you want to be super technical the 15s especially are geared towards sealed or 4th order enclosures.
  6. As the title states, this is exactly what im looking for nothing else. willing to pay a reasonable price for cosmetically un-flawed subs
  7. Went thru many amplifier changes before the build was even complete.Went from a Atomic 5k to a DD M4 to a Tara HD8000. Used my burp box in another vehicle and built a street box for the Etho 15s. Have had minimal playtime with them but the initial results were good. Tight accurate response. Did have a small hiccup that has had a band-aid put on just to get some testing in and show them off at a little local show tomorrow. So far ive done a 148 flat with them sealed on the dash from 44-47hz which is close to my vehicles peak. Have not done any meca style metering yet but in the past thats where it has typically shined. Going to play around with some more enclosures once i glue some recones in.

    In and playing finally

Im sure you will enjoy them Thanks, i have excellent voltage, but may still switch back to cap banks for more stability Thanks, i have a few tweaks to do to get the numbers up, wasnt thrilled but its only the 2nd build the car has seen and it was down for a year since last meca world finals.
  9. Update-Unfortunately i had to part with the wagon. Started having too many issues with it and at the rate things were going the build was never going to get done. So ive focused all my attention back to my dd. Currently wiring the car back up, deadening the doors, and finishing up the new frontstage with Pioneer tsd 6.75 comps on a PPi ion i520.4. Sub amp will be provided by Trafik Jamz which is still about 2 months out. I used my original dual 15 enclosure for another build. So im trying decide if i was to build a new box for my etho 15s or downsize to some ethos 12s and build a 4th order in the trunk. But from my understanding the ethos are a few months away from another production run
  10. Some of you may know me from the forums or facebook. Long time bass head and have been into audio for 14 years.I do a little glass work and custom enclosures. I'm about to be in my 4th season of MECA, 2nd year with our own trunk classes(finally). I don't really post build logs as nothing stays the same long enough to be post worthy. But i figured id share a little of the last few years. Sbn 13 was the last show i ran the Maxima at, broke the first Trunk class 150 at 36hz. Was alot left in the build and car in general. Unfortunately it was instantly scrutinized due to the rear seat being non folding, a removable plate that sat behind the rear seat may or may not have become a issue at finals so i didnt want to risk it. Sold the car a few months later and bought a 03 impala to build from scratch. First build didnt go to well. Ran with zero deadner. Electrical consists of a Dc 275xp, one set of 4/0 runs, and 6 banks of caps. Lost one amp before the first burp,2nd time ever running them and it was a huge disappointment. Ran a single 500.1 and it clipped under load like crazy, was never able to get anything out of the single 12 setup so i started fresh 2nd go around i foamed out the trunk, and used 2 bulk packs of stinger roadkill expert. And decided to run a tried and true design. Used a single vfl-comp 15, on a pair of apk-3500s at 1 ohm each then dropped one down to .5. Did decently well, 48s at the headrest at 31hz Did alot of squeezing a few days before world finals to get everything fitted. Road to Alabama, wired up at the hotel parking lot and road over to the Von Center to start testing. With all the trimming and modding to make everything fit i suffered a huge loss and raise in peak frequency. We were able to slid the box back forward an inch and it dropped the peak back down 3 hz and started back gaining. Just to let you know how low we started out it was having trouble breaking a 46 We woke up the next day scoped the amps and dropped down to 1 wired to .5 and started in testing. we got her up to a 50.6. Strapped both amps wired down and had trouble keeping the amps on. After about 30 burps we thought we had it nailed. Let the care cool a few hours before our final runs and never took in account for a cold coil. Amps shut down with no time in the lanes to reset. Was a tough pill to swallow. Was aiming for high 52s but didnt pull it off. So here is the present. Shelling out the trunk for a 4th order now for a pair of Ethos 15s. If the space cant be pulled off ill build something simular to last seasons build. Not like it had any issues playing low. Tuned to 36hz, played down to 27hz and peaked at 31 and 49 relatively flat
  11. I wish , have to fix all my roof braces before anything goes in. factory adhesive let go
  12. Yes! trying to put everything together for it as quickly as possible. But its a little expensive building from scratch, ill have about 3 grand in it shortly not including the vehicle
  13. Yes lots. I have the Ethos and all i can say is wow. The pictures online do them no justice. While building for the impala the opportunity to buy another vehicle to wall came about. So i put off building a trunk again this year and decided to wall . Using my box in a buddys build. 2 dd9515sc on 2 apk-5500s on 4 cap banks Picked up this Subaru Legacy wagon to build for Meca Mod class. Ill use my Etho 15s in a 3:1 4th order. So far the car is gutted to the B-pillar. Majority of the main wiring is done, 4/0, signal cables, hu etc. Picked up another DC Power 270xp to be re-cased. Atomic 5000.1 for power for now. And 4 group 31 sized Sprinter S12v370F Still have a few things to do before i can start cutting lumber. Mainly adding power door locks and alarm, tinting the 4 roll up windows. And picking up some more wire, copper bar and lugs.

Lost a few pics on the first post
  20. Thanks. its about 4 cubes tuned to about 37hz
  21. Building a more spl oriented enclosure for the 15s. After its done ill move on to a 6 cube street box

    Team Jersey for competitors.

Just imo but i kinda like the thought of a more flashy color vs fitting colors on a flashy design, if that makes sense.
