i actually just finished a setup like that. diamond d3 8" d4 in a sealed box off a d3400.1 amp, used 1/2" MDF (no double baffle). works just fine
-
congrats on the new(ish) dealer in Hawaii :D

dayumm, BMs running on the big island already. And i was really thinking about ordering one direct from SI. Let me know if you wanna sell that BM when you get a Mag -
try back later. that happened to me once upon a time. it eventually let me in
-
i second that

i was lucky to get my hands on one of them gotta build me a box so i can do a review on it

what do you guys think? RLp 15" trade for 2 RL-i 8
Kusan031 replied to HawaiianBassHead's topic in SoundSplinter
you're not talking about my RL-p are you? haha i think im gonna be running it again this summer. idk if i should get rid of it anymore =P. decisions decisions. we'll see though -
i had my RL-p15d4 running off a JL e1800d. never did reach the 1000watts the amp is rated at because it got more than loud enough for me at 800. (cone moved a lot**) i personally keep mine @ 600watts. im not 20 years old yet, and i dont wanna be losing my hearing anytime soon
-
okay, my e1800d input sensitivity is set @ about 60% now (1o clock position) and when i turn my vol up (20 of 34) it doesnt seem to show a lot of excursion, maybe an inch total. this is also with the EQ on my HU on "xplod" (sony). (MY 40A FUSE HELD AT THIS VOLUME) now i wanted to ask before i fool around with my input sens. because i do not want to blow my sub. i know my RCAs are rated @ 2V, but im not too sure how much its too much on my amp.
-
nope, that video isnt mine. i just finished my 3.15 ft^3 @ 28Hz box last night. i'll try to post pics in a new thread

i currently have an RL-p15 that i consider my baby, powered by a JL e1800D amp. since i dont full on pound the RL-p i want to get a 12" sub that would handle all the beating of 1000 watts on a daily basis. im thinking of eclipse or alpine at the moment, but im open to any suggestions. oh yeah, and as much as possible id like to stay under $260
-
just got everything set up. found out that i was running about 450 watts into it on a daily basis. and i found that i was clipping the amp about once or twice when slamming it for about 5-10 seconds each. thank goodness i got everything set properly. and yes, 500RMS does get this thing LoUd. imma believer =)
-
well yes it is definitely loud for daily use. but during dB meters when you get the urge to turn it up 'just a little more', i wanna know just how much i can feed into it safely, especially with the output of the amp which is "a lil' overkill" [stated by mike]. other than that, i got my DMM last night, and i will sett everything today

is there a tutorial online that shows how to use it in simple words?
-
does it have to be a good quality one? or are the ones from wal mart enough?
-
SXs are usually dual 2s right? my amp is only 2 ohm stable..
-
imo, 1 ohm will boom louder, but 4ohm wont be as strenuous on your amp. i myself run a JL e1800D ($380 on ebay) to my RL-p, but its a dual 4 so i get 1000x1 @ 2ohms that amp also does 640 @ 4ohms, food for thought

i went to my local alpine dealership to get my RL-p15 metered in my '93 Explorer and I managed to get 141.5dbs. my box is 2.5ft^3 @34Hz powered by a JL 1800d amp. I was being cautious though with my amp 1/2 power and the gains on the deck conservative. ive only had the sub for about month so i didnt want to risk something going wrong. the suprise was when i hooked up a single audiobahn AW1206T afterwards and hit a 138.6. it was in a 2.3 ft^3 @36Hz. i thought that was pretty decent for a $120ish sub. absolutely no competition in SQ though. RL-ps are something else. when i play System of a Down's "BYOB", it hit every single drum note. i'll try and post some pics of the setup soon

sure thing, =p ill get it right this time. and for the peeps that are diss'n explorers, ill run it in my '05 wrx after the ford to see what numbers i get. (the wrx was the problem behind the fuse mix-up, i have a 8ga. installed right now, but ill change it when the higher power stuff goes in)
-
ive heard the subwoofers and 6.5components. the sub produces really tight bass, something like the MTX 7500+, but they can hold the lower notes better. Compared to the new Type Rs though, Type Xs dont hit the lows as hard. The owner of the alpine shop here actually prefers those Xs in sealed enclosures. as far as the components go, i personally like them a lot after hearing it on the board. the mids are smooth and the highs are not too harsh. im gonna pick me up a pair sometime in the near future.

i just blew my wiring kit fuse on my amp yesterday playing a 35hz cycle with the input sens. on the amp about 60% turned. funny thing was that it wasnt an 80A fuse in it. it was a 40A fuse and thats the same fuse that i used when i got metered. now 40A is supposedly 300rms right? i wonder how much i was actually pushing for the 141.5db..... crap
-
true that. the box sounds identical to MDFs that i have made for my other subs. and being that i live in the tropics, it takes moisture much better.
-
yup, thats 3/4" ply, spare pieces from the cabinets my family worked on for my sister's house.
-
its rated @ 800rms car off & 1000rms car on. its a sweeeet amp i must add. oh yeah, and as promised here are some quick snaps of my subs:
-
im pretty sure it was legal - mike on dash, car on

just asking out of curiousity. im still debating what freq. i should port mine to, granted i listen to pretty much everything. 1) driver size 2) net ft^3 box @ __Hz 3) type of music you listen to 4) extra comments about the set up
