Well what kind of cash are you looking to spend??? You could go with this or this just for efficiency I would go with the 12'' and go ported, a proerly built ported enclosure can still be tight and punchy for country and rock but rumble away on rap and will give you the most system efficiency. as for an amp I would look here you can sundown amps just as good as new for cheap. maybe something like a SAZ 1000 just keep it gained back a bit.

Something like an ssd 10 in a small ported box or sealed.....???? wait first what kind of music do you like to lessen to? and if you go with a 600 watt amp your stock Electrical should be fine I thnk your car has a 130 amp alt in it, and if she isn't into loud music you could get a smaller amp 300-500 watts

Alton makes a good point, my bad for not asking SPL or SQ???? I just say BL bc I have one in my Taurus on 2K and I beat the $hit out of it everyday and she takes with a smile on her face

Alt, Batt, Wiring for 4kw+ in Alero
Spencerk replied to RE XXXv3's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Keep in mind that an HO alt is only going to put out around 125 ish or so at idle. So the extra bats will be needed to sustain at low RPM, Replace the stock under the hood with the bigest one you can fit and two in the trunk. If you are looking to do a 4K set-up properly saving weight is going to be a tall order.....thats like asking for a dragster to run 8's and still get 35 mpg -
get a BL it will gladly take 1400 watts that Q may take it but it proly wont like it very much

either im lost or your lost......why do you want to upgrade your wiring harness to you alt?? -
Hey np man.....I forgot to mention that 277 amps was at 100% amp efficiency so a more realistic number would be around 330 to 350

I know lucky 76 likes fluke bc his pops woks for them, but they make sweet meters i myself have about 9k$ in fluke products in my tool box, but I need it for my job. That Triplett should be fine for you. cant wait to see how that works for you I wanted to get a cheapie for round the house

Are you looking to do burps or do you want to listen to your 4k for more than 30 seconds???? at 4K you are going to need 277 amps PLUS whatever that car will need if you want to play for extended amounts of time, and thats at 14.4 volts. Your looking at a dual alt set up for sure but if you just want to burp the get two more batts.

Electrical help
Spencerk replied to CrownVic's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Yeah now that you said something and it is house wiring which is not good in car audio. Correct me if Im wrong but from my understanding the reason why house wire strands are so thick is because the current flows in the strands. Whereas in car audio the current flows around the outside of the strands. I had a two friends who messed up their amps using this wire, not only was it hard to work with too. You might want to get you some welding wire (weldingsupply.com or weldingdepot.com). No AC or DC it make no difference. Electrons flow over the surface of wire.... home wire usually has less strands bc its cheaper to produce and you are normally dealing with less current in residential applications. -

Your alt has to have a + charging post, you have a 4G or a large case 6G alt..... your plug on your alt ( its a 3 wire or a 2 wire ) one wire will be to excite the regulator , for the fords one will be to the ECM depending on your model you have have a variable voltage regulator (some fuel savings bull $%) and the third will be to a 12 volt constant source. -
LOOK OUT DONT BUY THIS!!! BUYER BEWARE
Spencerk posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Ok, so I bought a HO alt for my taurus 2 weeks ago from a place called Quality Power Auto. The alt I bought was a 200 amp max and 125 amp at idle I paid just shy of 300 shipped to my house. I put the alt in the car today and well as the title would suggest I am VERY disappointed in the performance of this thing. First this thing has the voltage caped at 14.1 volt which is bull shit bc the stocker would do 14.4 solid in 90 degree heat in a traffic jam. At idle this alt would drop into the low 12's (like 12.1 to 12.0V) with nothing on but the head lights. It would not make all wopping 14.1 volts untill almost 3K rpm!!!!!! I tested this POS on only one of my nine.1s that has a max current draw of 130 amps and that amp with a full 30htz burp and the engine at 4k rmp dropped the voltage into the 10's !!!!!! Bottom line NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY THEY ARE SAMMERS!! -

No not the size of the bolt that you mount too (though is is way small) The stud that sticks out the top for the charging wire has two lil plastic tabs on either side of the stud they are about 3/8 of an inch apart so you can only fit small terminals on it the biggest I could fit was a 6 awg terminal. No I dint have to use a new size belt but since I already had the belt off I just threw a new gatorback on. My belt tensioner has about 3 inches of travel to it, but I have had to buy new belts for for my cutlass supreem and one for my grand vitara. So I guess is depends on your aplication -

yeah I know im not haseling them about their service, I was just hoping for something that dint have a lil 1/4 -20 bolt sticking out the top. I would have liked to have seen hefty parts like, a 3/8 copper cooling plates, a HEAVY duty mounting location for those huge power wires we all use. -

Yes I did contact them and bc I had to cut some plastic off the mounting bolt for the + terminal they are unwilling to deal with me now.... I had to cut a bit off to make a 0 guage wire terminal work....this so called HO unit would only accept A 6 GAGE TERMINAL!!!! When I first took the thing out of the box and saw that I thought to myself " I should return thins bc it wont do what I need" man I should have lessened to my instincts. -

Yep I put the stocker back on and everything is fine again. The pulley that is on the Ho alt is WAY smaller than stock, if this thing got much smaller it would be a 6 grove nub/shaft hanging off the end of this thing. I see that you have a mech man how did you get a hold of them they don't have a site anymore -
Not going to let the cat out of the bag yet but.....why would I need springs that can handle 780lbs each in the back of my Taurus???? Hmmmmm I wonder???? pic 1 pic 2

One run of 0 awg will support 280 or so amps if you use the 700 circular mills per amp of current draw rule. The idea behind 2,3,4 runs is to lower the opposition to electron transfer lessen the volatge drop from the source (alt) to the amps, or to make the electrical system as efficient as possible.
