I did have the 15's sealed and they were badass. They will still get hella loud and sound VERY good sealed. I would tell anyone to try them sealed first. You will be very surprised at the results. Had mine in 3ft after bracing and woofer displacement. I built it bigger so I could add wood to reduce if I wanted to later. These are SQ woofer, of course they like sealed boxes.

Amp vs Amp
Sir-Lancelot replied to Puff Puff Pass !!'s topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
You do see the dichotomy in your two posts don't you??? Really funny actually. I dont even know what a dichotomy is, had to look it up. lol You have a point Sir. Still not 100% dichotomy though. AB amps will always be better IMO just not always practical. The contridiction of my comment breaks down like this. AB - cleaner, bigger, current hungry D - smaller, more effecient, less expensive, more distortion. Being that I am not a hard core SQ guy, I can live with it. To say one Korean class D is cleaner then another Korean class D with similar features is the dichotomy.- 34 replies

Any truth to the saying that mixing batteries will cause them to discharge one another? More specifically, I have an Optima red top under hood and 3 yellow tops in back. I want to replace the yellow tops with one large XS battery in back to clean up my install. Will this cause ill effects to the red top or to the XS? Thank you for clearing up the AH crap. That is the one specification that is tossed around like the gospel and I appreciate someone telling it like it is. That said, what specifications are most important when looking for batteries we use in car audio.

Looks nice! I like the red.

Amp vs Amp
Sir-Lancelot replied to Puff Puff Pass !!'s topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
My opinion is a bit more extreme. I have been buying more budget amps with the power and features I want because I do not hear a difference between a MB Quart 4125 and a Sundown 100.4 for example. That is not a knock on Sundown or any other manufacturer. I am happy with my budget amps (Crunch GP3000D & MBQ 4125) and I have less than $545 total invested in both. They both put up big numbers, have nice internals, have been reliable, and as stated above I do not hear a difference in SQ from other products I have used in the past and I have used my share in 20+ years. There are products that offer an excellent bang for the buck, but they require some research and thought process to find them. At the end of the day it's my ears I have to please. ^ This is my opinion and I am not trying to change anyone's thoughts. Just an old man sharing his thoughts. -

unclean pretty much sums up all class D monoblocks, IMO. They are what they are, big power on the cheap. -
I take back my do it comment, that looks uncomfortable. . (would still like to see pics) Wouldnt your leg block a lot of the sound? If your leg is resting on the midbass it's goint to be hard to not hear just your side since it will be right on top of you. Sometimes just feeling it on your pants leg makes you mind hear just one side.

Fiberglass vs MDF Subwofer enclosures
Sir-Lancelot replied to Gatorfooseball08's topic in General Audio
Cool, that sounds nice and I would do what j-roadtatts said. Glass would sexy it up a little on top if you aimed the woofer. Go check out fiberglassforums.com and get some ideas. Pics are worth a 1000 words and there are plenty of projects on there. -
You are prolly right, they way your pods are aimed now, it should not be much worse. Do it! A 10 would be sexy as hell!!

Getting license soon, any random ideas for stereo setup and design

In San Antonio? BTW, your avitar made me lol. Memories of my old school MTV days. -
WOW Sean, I don't know if I could find a BADDER midbass if I tryed. I had been looking pretty hard at the Vifa NE225w-04 8" and its 10" big brother, But this Aura is a beast. I found a store with these Aura's in stock and I WILL buy them TODAY if you tell me I am not going to find anything even close to better for my SQ APP. with the full range 3"-4" driver? YES I am a young bull and could spend years looking at drivers and still miss the mark. Thanks for your time Sean. Those 10's are almost 6" deep. You will have to hang a leg out the window of your Honda to drive. Take pics.

Fiberglass vs MDF Subwofer enclosures
Sir-Lancelot replied to Gatorfooseball08's topic in General Audio
It will work, but you have to make sure it's VERY strong. Making pods for smaller speakers is one thing, but a large sub with lots of power is a different monster. No air bubbles, lots and lots of layers, and even rope in between the fibergalss. Yes, people use MDF because it's easier and MDF is better if glassing is not done correctly. Is there a reason you want to glass? You can shape your box with MDF and make a beauty panel. Heck even make a beauty panel out of glass if you want. Are you trying to fit to a certain shape in your car for stealth? -
Better to ask for forgiveness then permission.
