NExt step : some cleaning on the amps ! And I still need to ground the alternator with 0 gauge wire. I ran out of ring connectors ::-( The box should be ready for friday. If evreything goes well, and if the sun keep shining like these days. It's so hot : 33° C all day long.

Some more pictures. Everything is good and plays. The steering wheel coontrol works fine with the head unit and the Pioneer adaptor. But I don't have the right plugg for the FM antenna, and the one to receive the info from the parking radar. I can only hear the biiiip. I need a better picture of the battery and the big 3. We tried to make everything look stock

New car : should I run the front speakers active ?
Notorious97200 replied to Notorious97200's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I'm using the passive filters. They're in the back, near the amplifier. It will be easy to re wire to the amp. I know how to take out the head unit when I need to instal the mini dsp. I already have a single set of rca short enough to go to the glovebox. -
New car : should I run the front speakers active ?
Notorious97200 posted a topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Hello guys, I am still waiting for my amp kit and my dash kit for the head unit. But I'm thinking about my future install. I' will run a Pioneer x5600bt and 2 IA amps : a 3.4 on my focal KP 165 and a 20.1 on my 15" zcon sub. I'd like to try an active setup this time. Do you think it is worth trying with my current mids and tweeters ? I know I would need a processor to do so. As I don't want to break the bank, I'll look into the mini dsp you all talk about. My installer will build solid baffles for the speakers, and the tweeters will sit next to the mids. There is no stock place for the tweeters. I am planning to buy some products from sounddeadenershowdown.com later. Thanks for your advices. -
New car, should I get an aftermaket head unit ?

Finally I bought a 5600 Pioneer double din. It fits really well ! I have a few pics in my buil log : "My first SUV gets a sound system". -
I can't say how it sounds yet. I turn it on once, to see if everything was ok. There is work to do. first impression : it is loud !!!
-
Still need to secure the rear battery. We will make something for that. I don't want to see any flying battery over (or on) my head. The tweeters are in the stock location, on the dash. I don't know if I will like them there. But everything is hidden, as I like, and the head unit stands nice ! I forgot to take a final picture. I must buy an adaptor for the FM antenna, and another gear to hook the parking detector : I want the screen to show me where are the dangers (even if there is no camera). There is some more work to do. The big 3 will be easy to do, the alternator is easy to reach on this car. The box will be ready next week, before the week-end. I hope so :-)

It was too dark to keep working :

Head unit unit in the place ! It was easy to do...with all the instructions coming from a Mazda document I found online I will use the Focal passive filters. I don't know wher are the covers. It's ugly but it will work. The sun is killing us : power for the bass amp : Not going for the most beuatiful instal, but I like it ! Testing everything: It works.
-
Little preview on the box : I don't think it will look exactly like this. 4 cubic feet @ 33 Hz.
-
I still need to find a place for the tweeters ! The Focal filters will take place near the amplifier.
-
Today we'll hook everything, and instal the head unit. Power cable and rca's are already in place. The box will be done next week. I got the design from RAM.

15% tint. Rear windows were already dark, stock tint. in a hurry ...before the night, we just took out the stock plastic box to put that ring in. After 8 years, the Focal mid needed a little point of glue ;-) very bad picture, but you can guess the amplifiers mounted and the Chinese Group 31 battery I will use (it was relatively cheap, and available). 2 shops should receive XS batteries in a few weeks, but they will be 3 times more expensive, and I can't wait !

Install will start monday. I have everything except a second battery and the box design.
-
I like your box. Good job on the kerf. I hope you'll enjoy it. What car do you drive ?

Hi guys, I drive an SUV for the first time, with enough of trunk space (for the first time of my life) ! It's a Mazda CX-5 (2.2 l diesel with 150 hp) : I love it hopefully :-) :-) I will use my Zcon 15" on an IA20.1 amplifier. I think I'll do sub up. But how to put the port ? Port up or port to the rear ? How much room is necessary between the port and the rear hatch ? Is there a maximum ? If I put it firing back, what would be good and why ? Port standing on a side of the back panel of the box, or laying down on all the width ? I see both scenarii for SUV generally. I'll take some mesurements later. I think I can easily run my sub in a 4ft3 net enclosure, in this car.
-
I think I'll have it on the passenger side. Not the best for metering, but it will be louder to me on the driver seat !

Voltmeter and a smart phone/tablet/computer running a function generator. Audacity is free and will do what you need. Instructions a few posts back, if you have questions ask. If you use the headunit for the sub, then you need a 2 way crossover. I'd personally get the 4 way advanced instead of the 4 way as it allows custom biquads. Same price as well. The 2 way is for a driver + sub. The 4 way splits one input into two outputs that you can configure anyway you want. It will NOT do summing for a sub though. For a front stage only 4 way is what you want. They email you those once you buy them. No need to worry about it up front. Voltmeter :ok computer/smartphone : ok Audacity : I will get it. This may be a fun experience. I know it will take some times to achieve a good sound, but I will try. First thing first : install everything and have some serious music in the car. Then, mini dsp install, after some studies... Thanks. -

Ok, port will stand up on the back panel, firing back. What do you think ? On the driver side, or on the passenger side ? I will meter the system, but it is made to listen to music everyday, not to win any competition.

My head unit has a LPF for the sub : I may not need anything else. I don't know how to measure the passive crossovers, and what tool I need for that. I will start with the passive filters, and then (when I take them out, later), I'll add a mini dsp, with the DC isolator, the volume knob, but I need to find out what plug in to get.
