JL 13w7 box for best spl how many cubic feet
Notorious97200 replied to Billy Jack's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
There is no JL hate here. We all know they make very good products. The W7 is a good sub. I understand it might be frustrating, because you wanted answers we can't give you ! Build your ported box, tune to 34 Hz, with the volume you want/can, and have fun ! It will be much louder than sealed. If you don't like it, build another box, and so on ! Good luck. -

Here is mine. I bought the wood ring at a local car audio shop. I don't have the tools to do it. I still need to work on the doors. I will buy everything from Sounddeadenershowdown or from secondskin.

How much electrical for 2600watts.
Notorious97200 replied to Billy Jack's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
You have nice equipments so far. Personnally I would do the Big3 in 0 Ga, then add the 2nd battery if you have it already. Get a good voltmeter to watch your voltage, and play ! If you dig too deep (less than 12.5-12v) you will need something else : maybe a second battery, maybe an HO alternator. I don't know before you try. Good luck. -

linking amps
Notorious97200 replied to frogcase2002's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Some amps have a "mirror setting option", like the Incriminator Audio ones : you have one amp per sub, but you set only the first one. All the settings go to the other amp with just the mirror link. I like that possibility. A friend of mine ran 2 pair of Sundown SAZ 1000's on 2 Xcons (later on 2 BTL) : They last for years before he sold them in mint conditions ! -
Killer install Congrats

Need recommendation on components.
Notorious97200 replied to efreakingt's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I always wanted to try a set of those gti's. They're on the market for years. I wanted a set of those when I blew one of my mids. I could not find none, so I asked for advice here and I bought a pair of Seas. I'm happy with them, hopefully ! -
Potential GCON 15 purchase, a few questions
Notorious97200 replied to Mersc's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I loved all the SSA subs I had : Icon, Xcon, and now Zcon ! This Gcon should sound good in a sealed box. Specs must be listed on the site. Run this amp in 2 channel mode on this sub if you want. Usually bridge mode is at 4 Ohms, but I don't know this amp. -
It works now. Pc ok. Phone ok I can log in too. Great.

Big problems with Firefox on pc and Mac. Problems on Safari (mac) too. I can't access from my iPhone 6 now (and the new mobile site was very nice). everything was ok after the site upgrade though.

I had a set of Focal 165KP, on a powerful amp (2 x 225 w rms @ 4 OHms). I loved it for (8) years. The I finally blew a mid : I think a lead went bad and I tried to fix it. Impossible. M5 told me about the SEAS Prestige and I bought them. I was afraid to run those because of the 8 Ohms impedance, instead of 4. I hooked them on the inputs of the Focal passive filters, and kept the tweeters on those filters. First listening session put a big smile on my face. It really was not a downgrade from the Focal. No tuning, no eq, nothing, and I loved it ! Then I bought a mini dsp to set my x-overs and adjust everything. I'm still playing with the dsp, but not so much (I need time). I must say those speakers sound VERY good. I hate those PA style speakers that screams, like Barry White sings like Celine Dion ! Those Seas are "warm", accurate. Not Cheap too ! They do get loud ! In that active way, the mids are on 2 channels of my amp, and the tweeters are on the last 2. This amp is rated at 4 x 65 w rms @ 4 Ohms. So I don't know how many watts at 8 Ohms ! Not much, but they're loud enough for me. I did not loose anything from the Focal to this set of Seas Prestige. (They're a little bigger than the KP, 6.5" to 7"). I am very very happy with this purchase. Good luck. BTW this forum is amazing, you'll get the best advices available.

advice for new zcon box
Notorious97200 replied to Notorious97200's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
I'll take some mesurements this week-end. I'll tell you what I can do. I don't have more power available, and I don't have the budget to run a bigger amp. I hope I will be able to find a design that can please my ears and my need of cargo space ! -
Hi everyone, I have a 15" Zcon in a CX-5 Mazda. The box is huge in the cargo area : no more room left for groceries ! 4 cu ft @ 33 Hz. I would like to try a new box with sub up AND port up. I feel like the port is too close to the tailgate, and it flex too much. How do you think a new box with port up will play ? Will I loose anything from that change ? Is it absolutely necessary to have a double baffle ? I like to flush mount the sub, and I don't want to use 3 baffles for the new box? Can it be good with good bracing only ? I will try 3.5 cu ft to have asmaller box. I need to take out the false stock floor to put a higher box and save space near the tailgate.

advice for new zcon box
Notorious97200 replied to Notorious97200's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
But my voltage stays around 12.5 v all the time. It can go up to 14-15v when the alternator starts to work. It must be a regulated alt. So I don't think this Zcon sees a lot of power. But it's loud. I thought the Zcon liked smaller boxes than the Icon or the Xcon. Going from 4 ft3 net, to 3.5 can be bad ? -
Welcome to the forum. You're on the good track ! Nothing wrond with Focal speakers and Mosconi amplifiers, if you can get them. I have ran Focal sets for 10 years and I loved them. But big money equipments are not the only ways to sound good. Good luck.

Cheapest subwoofer for some clear bass, nothing too big?
Notorious97200 replied to Florida_Audio's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I totally agree. I loved all the SSA subs I've had : Icon, Xcon, and now Zcon, all in 15". To the OP : the Dcon is a good choice on that power. -
I like that false floor with the batteries. It gives me ideas, as I need to hide mine. No more back seats finally !

Does replacing speaker wire give better sound for 110 RMS component speakers?
Notorious97200 replied to Florida_Audio's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I've never worried about the size of the speaker wires. You shouldn't. You can use the factory wire. No problem with that. -
I love them more and more ! But I did not take time to play with that dsp. I have a few days off, maybe I'll find a moment, and a place to tune everything better.
