Why do people want to run their BTL with 3000-3500 watts? I always thought 2000 watts was enough for daily drive with a BTL in a good enclosure. Maybe I am wrong? It would be really cheaper to have a 2000 w amp rather than a 3000 one; cheaper on the purchase, and cheaper on the electrical upgrades.

Do I understand it right ? There are spl subwoofers, and subwoofers. It is just spl or not?

The last time I went to one of the very few audioshops we have here, I was looking for 0 Ga connectors (for batt, ground,...). When I came in, they told me : "what a big size wire!" as if they never use that size !!! I could only find one connector there!!! And I was lucky because in the other shops, I couldn't find any !!! But I live in a small island, only 400 000 people. Everybody run Audiopipe, Pioneer, or ... If you have some money you can get Focal or Davis Acoustic speakers : but you have to know what you want, because the advices are not so good!!! They all don't even know how to make a slot port box, or how to tune a ported box with a simple round pvc port. They can only make it by ears : you have to like what they like. Don't ask them for a ported box tuned to xxx Hz : they will not know how to do it !!!!!!!!! Thanks to the internet (ebay and ssa)!

Like I said, it's a kind of marine wood, I don't remember how it is called in French, so, in English : don't know! But I will look for it. My friend used to build boxes with mdf, for one of the few shops down here. But he prefers this kind of wood, now. It's water resistant, lighter than mdf, it is stronger than mdf (he thinks so), and the sound is not bad ! Is it really better? I don't know, but I like it : my box is in the same wood, and I have no problem with it.

Here are some pics of the build. The camera was just a cell phone, so the pictures are not very good !!! Sorry guys! Pics are in my gallery, I don't remember how to post them in this new topic. I am looking for that!!!

3.5 ft3 net at 32 Hz if I remember it right. We just bought the design at Fishercustoms and my friend built it.

Smallest possible sealed box for Q 18?
Notorious97200 replied to galacticmonkey's topic in General Fi
You had several advices from top dogs here, you'd better listen, or you will be disappointed !!! Do you want to sound like azz, or do you want a clean and powerful bass ? It's up to you! It's not your first setup, you should know how sound a sub in a too small enclosure. It's not worth the money. Take less subs, and have a really good frontstage and a powerful electrical system with the money left!!!!!!!! It would be 1000 times better than 8 or 10 or 12 subs in a small box with poor speakers upfront. Just my 02cts. -
With the 2 saz 1000 D, it's sooooo gooooooood !!!!!!!!! The pressure is insane inside the car!!! People with "big & heavy" spl subs are amazed : so much out put for 1800 - 2000 watts rms ! Soooooo much low notes !!! The ground seems to move when we play some rap songs. On some Gucci Mane, or Gorilla Zoe, it's incredible!!! Everybody loves this setup down here. I got to say that my homie has lots of Davis Acoustics speakers in his front doors : they are clear, loud and accurate. They are powered by a JBL amp at 2 ohms (4 x 169 watts rms). I think it's the bpx 600.4 or something. We had it so cheap on Indoaudio, we could not pass on it, and my friend is a JBL lover. All his pro audio gear is JBL! I still have pics to post here : the doors, the total install and the car itself. SSA may have some new customer soon!!! (only if they speak english and if they find the site !!!) This install is fantastic, everybody is talking about it here.

You had the car for free, so, nothing to say about it !!! Man, your box is beautiful, I hope it sounds as good as it looks!!! Keep on working, we're watching !!! -
You have the good car, you have the skills and the tools, and you seem to have the money !!! You're a lucky guy!!! Keep on posting pics, we love it

I need the same one ! with the same woofer, of course!!! Waiting for more pics!

If you have the money, and don't intend to compete in SPL, try the Xcon on your saz 1500 : good combo !!! You would love it! I've never heared the BL, but, as they said, it is not in the same class as the Xcon. What do you want to do ? What do you listen to? ... For Sundown, I must say that I really like to buy in the hands of the owner of the brand. You can't do that with mainstream brands. You know who you're dealing with. They answer every mail they receive, very fast. Prices are not so high, and they ship your purchases fast. What else ? Try it by yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Door speaker recommendations
Notorious97200 replied to thebiggmann12's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
You're on the right way, now !!! With stock speakers you can't turn the volume up enough, so it's difficult, impossible, to listen to all your bass !!! Take a (good and new) set of component speakers and an used amp if your budget is too low. It will be night and day !!!!!!!! -
beautiful box It really fits the trunk. That's a fully loaded Saxo !!! Can you post pics of the instal, please?!
-
I love those fresh smells On everything new!!! Enjoy your amp : my 50.4 is doing well on my comp set! I have it in my car for a week now!!! It is a lot more power than my speakers need, so I have a lot of headroom, as they say! I think my Focal 165KP love this amp. I don't know how to say it but they seem to express themselves with more ease! So, you will enjoy yours!!

Have A Problem!
Notorious97200 replied to supaduppaman's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I was going to say the same thing! If you have a Pioneer hu, you may have a groung problem with your rca's' I had the same problem! But the noise seems to go away after adding a new ground to EACH rca's of the hu. Good luck ! -
You can't receive any help if you don't tell us about your budget , the room available for your box, and your electrical system. Personaly, I like 15" sub, but they need big boxes.

take the Icons, you will love them !!!

Hi all, I have just installed my Sundown 50.4 bridged to my component set. I did not really take time to adjust the gain as it should, but I can say that I feel the change! I had a Boston gt42 amp before( 2 x 100 on the comps, and 2 x 100 on some rear doors coax); that was playing well. But my first impression with the 50.4 is that I have much more power, and that is true : 2 x 160 watts instead of 2 x 100 watts for the Boston!!!! I am satisfied! My sub amp is a Sundown saz 1000 D and I love it. I was afraid of playing with an amp at 1 ohm, but I can say these saz are made for that. I live in Martinique, French Caribbeans, with 30° C all year long with burning sun!!! And I have no issue with it. I was running a JL A 1800 D amp on my sub, giving it 650 watts rms at 4 ohms. The Sundown 1000 gave my sub much more power. It's the first time I have 2 amps of the same brand in my car, and I love the look! My instal is so much cleaner now. I will show some pics soon!!! The customer service is top notch. The owner, and the ssa shop owners answer to ALL my emails in the same day!!! They are open to suggestions, and I really feel they want to satisfy their customers. When you buy mainstream brands, you can only talk to the re-sellers, if they take time to answer. With Sundown, you can talk to the owner. I don't know how he can do that!!! I think these guys never sleep. One more thing : I must say that online prices are fantastic. good prices, good (sound) quality, reliability ( never read something bad about them), wonderful customer service, long warranty (2years ?) : what else can you ask for ??

Do I need to run a battery relay/isolator?
Notorious97200 replied to HI LIFE's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
My guess is that it must be running when you play music with the engine off, no matter how is the position of your key. Am I wrong or not ??!!! -
1500 watts : that would be very good for 2 Icons in the right enclosure. I can't tell about the sa 12, but the Icons are fantastic woofers. I love my 15' Icon, and eventually I will upgrade to an Xcon!!!
-
This is quite a big build for a first one : a huge 18" BTL !!! Did you think about front speakers and amp : with that bass you won't be able to listen to your speakers. They need an amp and an upgrade. Your budget seems too small for such instal :sub + amps + speakers + wiring + batteries + box + dampening materials + accessories + ... I hope you will build everything on your own, because a shop will charge you a lot of money for all that.

I have heared lots of Focal speakers, and I have a set of 165KP in my car (I love them !!!). Sometimes I feel like the singer is in my car!!!!!!!!!!!! I have changed a lot of things in my sound system, but I don't want to change my speakers!!! The only "bad" point is that I have heared much better tweeters in other cars. I don't want to change the tweeters because I'm using the passive filters, and they're made for the Focal tweeters ; I am not looking for headaches to find the good ones!!! The only comp sets I like are some Davis Acoustics, btu I don't think you will find them in the USA. But they sell on their own website, try to google it. Good luck
