    Newegg FTW!

The chances of it being accurate are totally random. =p

    Interesting read

Wow Jmac. I don't know what I did but now your avater has some really nice anti-aliasing in it. *shrugs* I contacted Newegg via their "talk to a rep" applet. I learned that 1) the applet doesn't work in Opera, 2) the applet doesn't work in Firefox, and 3) the techs all say "Keep checking the site, when they're in, they'll be posted. Can't tell you anymore than that." You could get a Core 2 Duo off Tigerdirect, but their status is the same, they're just "on backorder" meaning you'll get it just as slowly as Newegg and you also get their markup. =\

    REVIEW OF NEW TWEETERS!!

I had a pair just like that only a lot older line. Nothing to write home about IMO.

    Competition ftw

These are before overclocking. Stock cooling, idiot friendly overclocking utilities, and a good motherboard can get 50% more out of even the entry level E6300, raising it two tiers against AMD (IE, making it comparable to the FX-60). I've been keeping track of this forever. Been planning a new PC for months. The price changes for AMD have taken effect and the Conroe is out now, but stocks are in short supply. I was going to go with AMD on this, but they discontinued my processor of choice (The 4800 with 2x1mb l2) and didn't drop the price of the 5000 enough to make it worth my while. *shrugs* ///M5: Don't feel bad, they discontinued my Socket A AXP 2500 a long time ago. Still does it's job, though.

Anybody used the woofer tester 2 ?

Try the red wiper fluid instead of the blue stuff. Works on my car. I just checked - 30*f. Perfect weather for installing sound deadener. </sarcasm>

    I need an 8" sub!

Fiberglass the enclosure and you could save enough weight for 2 tens sealed, IMO. That gives more options in picking a sub, if anything...

    res. freq question

They're called "One Note Wonders". They get crazy loud at their peak, but they suck for music most of the time.

    stereo vs surround

Now imagine those horns with over 300 watts of power and speakers that handle it to match. Crazy Loud. EDIT: and when I say horns I mean horn enclosures and not 106 db efficient horn drivers. =p
  9. This thread inspired me to fuse and relay my remote line. Cost over $20 in parts at Radio Shack. =( That's like half of the funds needed for a new box. On top of that it was mid 90s here and almost 110 in my car when I was working on it. I hope it's worth it. =p I'll also put the SQ myth to rest. Added 6 new terminals, one relay, and 8" of wire with no audible loss of quality.

    Loudness...

Ngsm13: I thought the HK series was rated at 17 volts? Did you bench them by any chance?

Folded Horn v. Snail Shell v. Transmission Line

Probably not. The Wicked one is at best 9 cubes for two tens. A 15 in 8 cubes would be like trying to port a 15 with less than 2 cubes net.
  12. If the amp should somehow get damaged, they've been known to draw huge amounts of current (Up to 4 amperes) from the remote line, which in turn kills the HU's remote out. How big the amp is has nothing to do with current draw on the REM line. I heard someone say that. The REM line should have nothing to do with the output quality of an amp, unless it's so erratic that your amp likes to randomly shut off. I heard someone say that, too. I'd say you're fine now, but relay it later on. You will be happy you did, should something go wrong.

    stereo vs surround

Since you didn't have 30 to 40 decibels of external noise to counter like in car audio. Whatever happened to text smilies? Sometimes a gif image just doesn't do justice to good old-fashioned 12 point Vernada..

Acidburn: Thanks, but I plan on forking over a lot of money for an LCD in the quasi-near future. Effendi: Real mature there with the hack job quoting. Go get a job or a girlfriend or something.

Who are the elders of this forum?

With age comes wisdom and lots of space equipment? Nonsense. I'm 20 and have enough spare parts for an entire bi-amped in car setup, two home stereos, and a weird ass computer that wouldn't have a monitor. =p

    stereo vs surround

I'm a firm believer in the stereo > mono > surround setup. You need a really big living room to properly set up a surround sound setup and have it not resonate off walls and stuff. I have a similar surround sound setup (Durabrand, yay!) that is collecting dust because I simply choose not to use it in favor of some Jensen towers. My sugguestion: It's the start of June! Look around yard sales for used towers. This time of year you're bound to find at least one set being sold dirt cheap because some speakers in it are blown. Replace any necessary speakers with some partsexpress similars (talk to Squeak9798) and find a decent amp for them. I've never needed more than 25 watts for an in home setup, but that's personal preference.

    Amplitude Responce and tone questions

There are so many things affecting what your top frequency is. Everything from barometric pressure to how much deadener in your vehicle to how much it weighs to temperature and humidity to elevation, etc. It's air pressure, and very sensitive to just about everything. Seeing as your truck is fairly new, I'm going to say it's been nicely deadened from the start. That along with it being a regular cab picked (Small, rigid cabin) would successfully drop the peak frequency. That's a very nice number to compete with.

Folded Horn v. Snail Shell v. Transmission Line

The smallest in my findings would be the Wicked One by Decware. The absolute smallest would be 6 cubes gross, ideally 9 cubes gross. Like I said, it won't hold a candle to a full size 28 cube folded horn, but it will kill most ported / bandpass enclosures.
  22. Squeak: What ever happened to your old 10" "midbass" drivers?

Folded Horn v. Snail Shell v. Transmission Line

Look into Decware's web site. They have a lot of nice horn enclosures designed for car audio. While the output compared to a normal folded horn sucks ass, they appearantly can still kill bandpass enclosures, and have taken home a few trophies in the process. www.decware.com
  24. Wish I had a link right now. I remember seeing an ad for an amp rated at 150 watts at 4 ohms. The the kick to it all was it was stable down to 1/16 (0.0625) ohm. Also read something about it pushing over 8 kilowatts at that impedance, but I didn't believe it. Was a modified A/B design, similar to a class H. I would love to see something like that in action.
