Hehe, I meant WE are a predominantly Christian nation. Not them. Bad grammar on my part.

There are lots of good speakers out there that work with only the power provided by a head unit. However these combos are all peanuts compared to the same set of speakers amplified with their rated power.

I disagree. MAD (Most appropriate abbreviation ever) to me meant that sides A and B were both totally capable of ending all life on the planet, and if one attacked, the other would. This time around, both sides have already attacked - the outcry would be from a third party (The REST of the world) Also, we never went to war with Russia, so in that sense, it *did* work... For me, "over" is when 1) the people native to the land can support themselves without resorting to hunter-gatherer for food and water and 2) they are emotionally ready to go it alone. Personally, I think this period came and went a long time ago. If I'm reading the news right, most of the violence now in Iraq is between Sunni Muslims and Shiite Muslims, which being a predominantly Christian nation is not our place to intervene or choose sides.

I remember after the first initial fighting where we took over, that Bush talked a bit about restoring the necessities like electricity and running water, but that was at least a year ago. Unfortunately, the news doesn't offer much on what's going on in Iraq and Afhganistan (sp?). (And on a totally random sidenote, I was I could change my screenname.)

I have personally found Stephen Hawkins to be full of it, but I'll give his writings another shot.

In terms of what RIckRolled just said, I'm all for genocide. I know that sounds harsh, but we're basically two sides of the same coin. Our society believes we are right and that our way of life is the only right way to live. We'll kill and die to support that belief. Their society believes they are right and that their way of life is the only right way to live. They'll kill and dies to support that belief. I'm not saying one side is right or wrong. Actually, both us and them are wrong in our belief that our way of life is the right one. I'm saying that 1) there are enough humans on the planet anyway and 2) one less culture means one less "taker" society to cause conflict. (think of the book "Ishmael") Of course, I'm not talking just us, but everyone. The world itself needs to stand up to one side or the other (i'm putting us on the line, too) and say "Enough is enough - calm the **** down or we'll destroy your lives, your culture, your religion, and your very existance". EDIT: Forgot to comment about the poll. While IMO few know why this conflict started, we can decide how it will end. We have to see it through. Personally, I don't even know why we're there right now. I guess I'm totally ignorant in that sense. I do know that's half assing something leads to a half assed job.

Songs that get YOU pumped

I've got 3 old 110 amp battery isolators just for that reason.

Worry about power ratings later. SQ and output are where it's at. =)

Careful with those roto-zips. They work great until the bit wears out, then it slows to a crawl cutting holes, I've broken bits, had them slow to 1" every 3 seconds or slower, even caught enclosures on fire trying to stretch that last bit out to finish the job. While the circle cutting tool on it is convenient, the bits wear out so quickly that I don't find it practical. Maybe I'm using the wrong bits in the first place. *shrugs*

The Album Review Thread
Scarenius replied to Scarenius's topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
Tristania - World of Glass This album represents the pinnacle of the Gothic Rock band Tristania. It has 9 tracks. The highlights of this album is a choir singing in Latin, a heavily antagonistic atmosphere, and most importantly, Vibeke Stene's voice. The album itself is a shock-value collection of black metal highlighting war, the end of the world, and even being sacrificed from the point of views like the Goddess of war, a spectator, and even an accused witch (respectively). The instrumentals are spotless. The lyrics are meaningful albeit a little senseless sometimes. The growling voices are understandable but a little overused IMO. A lyrics sheet will be necessary to understand what's going on is some songs. Vibeke Stene, as always, is a siren from the tales of Odysseus. I recommend this album on the grounds that you won't find music like it, with similar levels of creativity or effort, on any normal album. 9/10 - Attempted Perfection -
This kind of derives from the "Now playing!" thread, but rather than just post what song your music player has going, write up a review of any albums you think need reviews. Saliva - Blood Stained Love Story: For anyone listening to rock on the radio, this is the album which holds the track "Ladies and Gentlemen". The sad thing is, going through this album and the whole concept of love and loss the album tries to follow, it's totally out of place. In fact, in my opinion a better name for the album should be "Cookie Cutter Love Story" because many of the 10 songs on the album are dull and uncreative, which is another reason "Ladies and Gentlemen" is out of place. I easily forget which song is which because they all sound alike with the exception of "Ladies and Gentlemen" which is unique and memorable. As far as I'm concerned, this is a one track wonder. 5 / 10 - below average

I've only owned one pair of 8s. Almost every time I find a pair I would like to have, I run into the problem that they either lack the high end response I need, or they are simply too big for my intended design. My goal was alway a two way setup to fill in the complete musical spectrum in the front without the need for a dedicated woofer. Otherwise, most of my attempts to make an 8" sub audible in my Taurus fail miserably. So, I think if I were to look for a practical 8" woofer, it'd need to have a very small enclosure requirement, be efficient, and have a solid high end up to the 2k range.

Wait a second, I think I missed something. Did I just read 18s in the rear deck? What weird vehicle are you driving with a back dash that big?

The way I see it, it is a boner, but at the current time it's an earned position.

I can't believe noone has mentioned A Clockwork Orange yet. Another one to add is the original Godzilla. Not the one with Raymond Burr, but the actual original version. Then jump to 1985 with Godzilla 1985 all the way up through Godzilla Vs Destoroyah, and the death of the original Godzilla as a character and a series. Also, the Rotten.com shockumentary. Something to play for the kids before bedtime. =)

$0.02. YMMV, to be taken with grain of salt, etc. To move matter through time would require the energy to shield the matter from the effects of time. If moving matter through time is possible then time is also governed by something bound to matter. Much like magnetism (magnetons) and gravity (gravitons). In which case, you wouldn't move yourself back through time, but rather you would move time itself backwards while shielding yourself from the effects of backwards moving "chronotons". To do so would indeed allow yourself to travel back in time to kill yourself. However, once you did, because you've moved time itself around you and shielded yourself from the effects, the future you knew is no more, at least not yet if you don't change anything. You would still exist, your child self, now dead, would be dead. Because you as an adult were shielded from the effects of moving chronotons you would retain the childhood you already lived since you already lived it. Catch that? Also, since chronotons would be bound in matter, it'd also be possible to do the same thing to any kind of matter. You could "stop" time for a person, place, even a planet. You could adjust the flow of time to make a day on your planet a million years on another, and the affected planets would have no clue apart from some really messed up constellation patterns. Also, the fact that you'd have a day/night cycle every few milliseconds would provide a constant light level. Actually since the light waves would travel slower in this "time bubble" you'd have a very high level of light (it would build up) and could risk frying the planet, although this would take so long that it's hard to think of.

Everything in the diagram looks like it'd work just fine, albeit overkill in the extra grounds. Only thing I can think of is a lot of people like to throw a good 300 amp fuse between the alt and the battery. Just in case.

I like where Big E's going with his design. Their simple nature works perfect for a logo. Since we're all sharing ideas for the benefit of Mach 5, I'll throw up my designs. My only quirk with this one is how heavily the 5 is faded out. Sadly, my... image editing software... is pretty tough to handle when trying simple changes like making it more bold. Click on the image to a 512X512 version. This one took me 20 minutes. =p My software really doesn't handle downsampling very well, which is why this one has aliasing one the edges of the fonts. Again, click for a 512^2 version. The originals of both of these were rendered at 2048X2048.

Saliva - Ladies and Gentlemen (I just bought the Album. For the curious, there's a reason it's on sale for $10 at Best buy - because it sucks! It consists of one good song and 9 emotionless cookie cutter love songs.)

I know I have a car audio addiction when......
Scarenius replied to Aaron Clinton's topic in General Audio
You know you have an audio addiction when your primary home theater have more SD than TV. -
I've stopped using high end equipment. Maybe I'm just fitting into the "modern" crowd, but to me I just hit the point where I was listening to the stereo and not the music. With audiophilia comes the burden of learning how to gain audiophile quality music. I question the importance of having to learn about such things when a good pair of earbud headphones and a repaired (hack job) 1.5w / channel tube amp will handle it for me. (RIckRolled I'm really really sorry I never got pics of it. I could now, but - it's ugly.)

Great subs that never should have been discontinued....
Scarenius replied to Aaron Clinton's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
My knowledge of old stuff is limited, but of what i have used that's isn't made anymore, I'd say that Beals Brothers 8s should be brought back. They basically act like subs that want to be midrange drivers, and are highly versatile, not to mention efficient - Even if that meant my last enclosure for one was over 1 cube net. -
