input on new speakers, Infinity Kappa 63.7i?
jcarter1885 replied to burton907's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
awesome, any input on some other cheap speakers? some with decent midrange if possible too. their are a lot out there but I wouldnt use them personally, you already stepped up the quality of your sub and amp why go backwards with your components. go with the infinity kappas(i have one pair, both work fine just missing their grills if you want some) or some mach 5 audio mli-65's. -
why would it starve the subs of power ??? i think it set up perfectly the way he has it?? this is why any time you put a sub in series you give a little over half power or you will fry coils i would rather see it in parallel but has to many subs and one amp. just remember the term American wire gauge standard and ul listed you exceed the awg standard for power on a conductor it does not get UL listed because of the potential for fire in other words burned coils. any time you put one wire or coil in series with another you have to use the smallest awg used for the power calculation. so if there 300 watts and d4's and if you series each sub to bring them down to 2 ohms they should only handle a true 600 for all. so if i am wrong please explain it is the only way some one can learn why he wrong. Where did you hear this? If a sub's RMS is 300 watts, it handles 300 watts whether in series or parallel. It doesn't matter. If he wires dual 4 ohm coils in series for 8 ohm load, then parallel wires all four for a 2 ohm load, the four subs will still handle 1200 watts total. If he parallel wires each voice coil for a 2 ohm load, then series wires each sub for a total 8 ohm load, the subs will handle 1200 watts total. If he parallel wires both voice coils on each sub and all subs also, for a .5 ohm load, it will handle 1200 watts total. If he series wires each coil on each sub and each sub also in series for a 32 ohm load, it will handle 1200 watts total. Cooling of the voice coils is first initiated by the size of the coil itself. Since this never changes no matter how it is wired (still have the same size coil and length overall), the power handling stays the same. very well put, I thought everyone knew that the ohm load was just impedence matching on the amp(nothing to do with the power that sub can handle). the only reason why a sub(dual 2 ohms) would see more power @ 1ohm than 4 ohms is because the amps power handling is different at each ohm load(unlike jl audio /1 amplifiers).

My first choice would be 2-12" Sealed Xcons and then 2-10" Ported BL's, but both are great choices and cant go wrong either way (hopefully they will get you to your goal).

What Amp Would You Recommend?
jcarter1885 replied to Doctor Q's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
yeah thats the best bet, no point in leaving mainstream car audio and going right back to it. Im glad you decided to get the dcons, enjoy and bang (post pics when doing install). -
Ive had great service and products received from: www.sonicelectronix.com www.onlinecarstereo.com www.parts-express.com www.woofersetc.com www.soundsolutionsaudio.com

the 2000D is a beast of an amplifier
-
very impressive, so what are you gonna do about the spoiler now: leave it off or find a way to put it back permanantly if posible.
-
I just received my 2000D and was wondering what would besome good settings to tune the ssf and low pass filter to: Im thinking SSF= 20-25Hz Range and LPF= 35-50 Hz Range see what sounds better. Any suggested or opinions would be appreciated, the subs are 3-12" Kicker CVX's 1.333 wired, in 5.79 Ft^3 @ 25.94 Hz.

What Amp Would You Recommend?
jcarter1885 replied to Doctor Q's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
i already looked at Dcons... just for the subs it would be $620 and i can get the 4 pioneers for $240. If i had more money i would go with the dcons. well start saving up because you will love the difference betwen DCONS and Pioneers, just by two at a time. -
x2, go ahead and get the SSA 15" XCON and Sundown SAZ-1500D combo at the store.
-
naw he means two amps on, one on each set of coils
-
show us pictures when your done, my 2000D comes tomorrow

need a better amp
jcarter1885 replied to Generation X's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
That doesn't mean take it slow, it means the suspension will loosten up and they will be louder after about 2 weeks. ok, see I thought it meant take it easy so when the suspension gets loose you can turn it up some more all within its limits. thankx, learn something new everyday. -
Bump! Any ideas or thoughts ? Do some testing to find out what is best for your vehicle. Unless they have tested the same equipment in the same vehicle they don't have a valid opinion. x2 x3, try to turn the box where sub is back facing trunk door opening w/ port up or sub front facing toward seats and port up and see what sound better. Build another box according to jbl specs (port up, sub up) then play with that configuration and flipping the box around to see what sounds better. Then determine what box and which positioning is best, good luck. http://manuals.harman.com/JBL/CAR/Boxes%20and%20Parameters/GTO1514TD.pdf JBL says 3.50FT^3 @ 30 Hz
