I never used Infinity's Reference speaker line but the kappa's I used were great, Infinity does a good job and great brand.

People dont realize that they are not dealing with mainstream companies who make mass-production subs and ship them off to sit in stores on shelves and sent off right away. You guys take your time to build custom subs to thier tailored needs which is a delicate process and should not be rushed, your doing everyone a hellavu job in my opinion.

Some head units can used for an active set-up also, check to see if your radio as the feature and if not then you will need an amp to do it. Active can sound like garbage when doing them since it takes time and a lot of tuning to get it to sound right. If you dont have the time and patience then passive is for you but if you dont mind working with the front stage till its to your liking then passive is for you. I got my sundown amp in beginning of august and still tuning the amp, every adjustment just gets me one step closer and sounding better.

These are different subs, please state your goals and what you want from this setup. This topic has gone every which direction.

Image Dynamics, Infinity, Focal, Rainbow and some others are good components (the brands I could think of off the top of my head). I know you said a shop is far away but at the end of the day it would really be beneficial and help you make a better decision. But just pick a good brand thats in your budget and roll with it because someone might want this from theirs front stage while you prefer something else (so someone's opinion may not be good). But if you want to know peoples opinions on components then find all the sets that you like while doing research and that are within your budget and post them, then we can go from there.

Yeah I feel your pain there since my starting battery is in the trunk as will be my secondary battery when I get one.

also is the 3500D underrated? Should I expect around 4kw or 3500-3800kw? All Sundown amps are underrated, your making this amp selection process harder than it has to be. Whomever your listening to about the information their giving you about the efficiency of an amp at 4ohms when you wont even use it at that ohm load should not be listened too. I think you may need to start at a lower power level amp. What equipment are you using, what electrical upgrades are you gonna do or have done? Im going to do the big 3 with a 220a alt, and two HC2400 batteries, plus the 3500D and two BTL 12s.. Makes sense to me, and the guy was a friend who I trust but yea, hes wrong on that one part I guess huh.. Just because you know someone and trust them doesnt mean they know everything. Make sure you read up on everything your doing such as Big 3, upgraded alt, how to wire those batteries and so on to get a good install. I wouldnt suggest you and your friend do this install unless you guys really know what your doing.

Maan you gotta give us more details (go read the noobs post rules), what size sub and coil configuration, what amp? Im pretty sure any rockford amp can push that sub but its hard to answer if you dont give us any useful information.

What are your boxes specs, your box could be a reason why they sound like shit also.

Yes because that sub can be wired to either 2 ohms or 8ohms, and if you run it at 8 ohms you will not get nearly enough power to push it to its limits. It also saves you some room for upgrading in case you want to get another 12" Alpine Type-r and run it off the same amp in the future.

You could wire the sub in parallel to the amp so it sees two ohms, as the amp supposedly puts out 500 rms at 2 ohms.

When did you order it? Try and call or email them at fi car audio and see if you can get them to switch it up, hopefully its not too late.

It wasnt gonna be long before one did, no matter how well you guys built the sub (everything in life messes up even though it was not designed to look at the Titanic as an example). Sorry to hear this, hope all goes well with the sub.

Ask Thorshammer(membor on this site), since he is the only person off the top of my head who has used the Stetsom line of amps.
