400 watt amp @ 2 ohms
jcarter1885 replied to ChristianMcKay's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
First things first redo her remote start wire asap so she doesnt have to go through that everytime she gets out the car. Second of all, for amp with low power just get one that fits your budget, and a good company so its reliable (thats the only opinion thats best). Good luck. -
This needs to pinned or stickied, thanks man but I bet the noobs will still over look this (good write up).

400 watt amp @ 2 ohms
jcarter1885 replied to ChristianMcKay's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Well if you would do a search and find some amps that fit in the budget and perfomance area your looking for and listing them, then we wouldnt mind giving you the best opinion. So find some amps and then we can go from there. -
That looks like slow death a bacon burger but I wouldnt mind one in my lifetime.
-
Yeah looked for cracked parts, burnt parts (or are discolored), if the amp has been repaired before then look for a poor job on fixing amp, loose parts, etc.
-
You beat me to the punch by a few seconds.

And we are trying to explain to you that a 15" is not what you need if you dont have the space for it, the 12" will perform better in that area. I would go for a fully loaded 12" BL Dual 2 ohm (so you can wire it to 1 ohm) and call it a day, build a new box (they are cheap to make and helps with building experience and skills). I just threw away my first box I built and it took me almost two months to do so but hey you have to let things go to advance (it hurts to lose a box but I can also build another one and make it better, thats how i look at it). Just my .02 and if you dont want to follow our input then go buy a 15" BL Dual 2 ohm and have a nice day.

Clipping is the problem which everyone keeps trying to tell you, or the amp maybe damaged (only things that make amp hot are : clipping, low voltage, wrong ohm load, not a well vented environment or damaged amp).
-
I have been hearing about Exile lately, so they are a good company for amps huh?
-
Since it is a dual 2 ohm subwoofer wire it at 1 ohms, and we need more info from you man. Either the box is the problem or your settings could be at fault or both, follow these settings so you wont mess up anything on that subwoofer: Head Unit Settings Bass Boost/Exend = Off Loud/Loundness = Off Sub Level: + whatever yours goes up to minus a few whatever your preference Bass = 0 or lower, whatever your preference Amp Settings Gain = Set with DMM (with a 50Hz test tone and at subs rms or amps rms whichever is lower), no more than 50-60% if you dont have one. LPF = 100Hz or lower whatever your preference Bass Boost = Off SSF = 1-5 Hz lower than box tuning, or until subs start to reach its excursion level.

He wants to be like the people at school and have a 15", some people rather be cool than care about performance.
-
Well since you come in here with an attitude when people are trying to help you shows your age (you think you know more than everybody which we arent about and if thats the case then you shouldnt have asked a question). Personally you cant tell me you know how to set an amp up but didnt know that you cant wire the same sub in 1 or 2 ohms or let alone had it wired wrong in the first place if thats believeable. Getting this because people at your school have them is not good, dont be like others be better. Personally a box to small for a sub is ridiculous and a waste for the sub and system. Were trying to help you get the most out of your system, which we do here and if thats not what you want then sorry for helping. I personally would make another box for a 12 ported or 2-10"s just my .02 but if your stuck on a 15" subwoofer then just buy cause it wont matter what you get it wont perform well (it will still do its just and produce bass but dont be upset when someone with a 12" subwoofer makes yours look like ass).
-
I think you need to learn how to set your amps settings before getting purchasing another subwoofer just to damage it. What do you mean you want a new sub you can recone (thats ridiculous, just a waste of money). Save this somewhere on your computer for future reference so you dont keep fucking up equipment: Head Unit Settings Bass Boost/Exend = Off Loud/Loundness = Off Sub Level: + whatever yours goes up to minus a few whatever your preference Bass = 0 or lower, whatever your preference Amp Settings Gain = Set with DMM (with a 50Hz test tone and at subs rms or amps rms whichever is lower), no more than 50-60% if you dont have one. LPF = 100Hz or lower whatever your preference Bass Boost = Off SSF = 1-5 Hz lower than box tuning, or until subs start to reach its excursion level.

Questions about upgrading
jcarter1885 replied to holley2346's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Considering the 3500D just came out and the 4500D is about to release people will be upgrading all the time, so you should find one now or you can wait to Christmas. But if you have the money now and can spend it then find one and buy it to get that out the way or be stuck between a rock and a hard place when the time comes for when you need it. -
Naw, but I need to because I spend 30 minutes aday finding it for someone who asks this question. yYou just gave me an idea will save it now .
-
ok... so how should i have my amp set ? Head Unit Settings Bass Boost/Exend = Off Loud/Loundness = Off Sub Level: + whatever yours goes up to minus a few whatever your preference Bass = 0 or lower, whatever your preference Amp Settings Gain = Set with DMM, no more than 50-60% if you dont have one. LPF = 100Hz or lower whatever your preference Bass Boost = Off SSF = 1-5 Hz lower than box tuning, or until subs start to reach its excursion level.

Inform me please . -
Just one, wanted to do both but the home depot wood was being a bitch, too brittle, so just 45'd everything on the bottom one... I was just about to ask the same thing until I see you had them sealed off with their own ports.

I wouldnt get it if you have a ported enclosure unless you plan on buying an exterior sub sonic filter. -
That tweeter that 5.25" speaker, looks bestly. Let me know how they sound never been into those type of tweeters, usually a soft dome kinda guy. Interior speaker wise we have the same set-up almost (4 tweeters and 8(6.5") mid-ranges/mid-bass speakers). How are the soundstream pro series SM16-90 mid bass woofers on mid-bass or are they more mid-range (currently Im looking at B&C 6PEV13 6.5 Mid-range speakers now)?
