I agree that this is wasting forum space

Any ideas
jcarter1885 replied to djjdnap's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Or just use a bigger gauge wire and sell those or use them on another install. -
Anything that does there rated power at the desired ohm load you need and what fits your budget. I would say a 2 channel amp that does 200w x4 @ 4 ohms (two speakers per channel) or a 4 channel amp that does 200w x4 @ 4 ohms bridged. Give or take some wattage.

I agree with you and that is how Im using my 8"s as well as others, I wanted some mids with good midbass and decent output as well. I just wouldnt downplay them cause someone says there not geared for SQ, that they wont sound good or cant be used in sound quality install (SQ is subjective). Ill bet with the low amount of power your running yours at with those horns, it sounds lovely. Wish I was in your area to get a listen, im looking for some ultra horns myself.
-
There laid back pro-audio drivers, off course there not aimed at SQ. It doesnt mean they cant sound good or be EQ'd to do well in any application. They arent your typically balls out loud midrange driver with no midbass, they will have midbass and still have stellar output. If your looking for true SQ then my guess would be to not look at pro audio speakers.

The only problem doing it this way will be the ID horns and Soundstream tweets will be playing the same frequncy, which wont help the horns if you try and accomodate the tweets by going with a higher tuning. If you go with a lower tuning to accomodate the horns then the tweeters will probably get damaged for playing too low.
-
Oh ok, I was looking at those tweeters awhile back myself. How would you say they compare or differ from the horns sound wise? Thanks
-
Wire your left horn plus left tweeter to channel 1 and your right horn plus right tweeter to channel 2. Each channel will see a 4 ohm load, sending each speaker 60 watts give or take. What tweeters do you have? Do you think they will be audible recieving the same power as those horns considering their efficiency?

im talking 160 not 150. and why is that? What your not understanding is if a person never competed before says there goal is to hit a 160db just shows you they dont understand what goes behind getting a 150 let alone a 160. I hope your not talking about on music neither. Im not saying its impossible but its like rocket science for a begginner and will probably take more time/money/sweat/etc. to even get to the mid 150's than you probably envision. 140-145db increase is not hard, 145db-150db gets more difficult but is attainable. Going from 150-150db+ is not simple at all, most people start loosing db's when they get in that range during testing (i.e. equipment failure, car cant handle it, pockets not deep enough, etc.) Good luck in competing but set an attainable goal dont just pick a number out your ass, thats a slap in the face to real competitors who put in a hell of an amount of work and are still trying to reach that goal.

Those pictures mean its time to get some work done

Its a messed up situation that turns into a win win for you

congrats on the score man

control arm bushings, Same thing I was wondering and where did you get them bigjon?
-
SSA store is top notch
-
Wont be that easy and wont happen like that, if that was the case everybody would be doing 160's. It will take a boat load of money, experience, time, rebuilding and probably messing up plenty of subs to reach your goal. Its not going to happen on the first build you do, it will require lots and lots of testing plus vehicle modifications. Do some research on serious competitors and see what all they done to reach high db levels, there are people who been competing for many number of years who still havent reached 160.

How are you liking the complete system, subs and front stage?

Congrats Mark and Aaron, SSA is continuously growing :woot:

Pairing the Right Amp w/ Speakers
jcarter1885 replied to burko's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Yes that would be considered an active setup, active setups have crossovers but they are usually controlled by either: a headunit, external processor or an amplifier. Active and passive usually both consist of mid and tweeter, passive has a crossover between the amp and speakers (both speakers are wired to crossover, then crossover is wired to amp). Active usually consist of mids hooked up to a pair of channels and tweeters to another pair of channels on the amp. Active just means you will have to adjust your crossover points on your own without the help of a passive crossover unit that comes with component speakers. -

I had an audiopipe amp before and they just arent my cup of tea, sure they can get the job done but I would suggest you save up some more cash and get something else. -
Pairing the Right Amp w/ Speakers
jcarter1885 replied to burko's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
First I would purchase an amp and put those XTR speakers on the amp first before going out and buying new speakers. If your current speakers amplified still dont meet your goals or desired output levels then switch to something else. If you do end up switching speakers to what you have listed above I would only buy 2 supertweeters if your going with 4 Selenium drivers (hopefully the Sundown Neo-Pro 6.5"s will be out by then). If you choose to get the Sundown 100.4D you can wire your speakers like so: Channel 1 - 1 Supertweeter @ 8 ohm load Channel 2 - 1 Supertweeter @ 8 ohm load Channel 3 - 2 Seleniums @ 4 ohm load (two 8 ohm speakers wired together = 4 ohm load) Channel 4 - 2 Seleniums @ 4 ohm load (two 8 ohm speakers wired together = 4 ohm load) Yes they will see around 50 watts a piece give or take some wattage, this will be fine considering they are more efficient than your typical car audio speakers (coaxials, components). There are a lot of people on this site who dont like pro audio drivers or dont care for them in there install so they will talk down on them. There are a few of us on here who use them and use them in actual installs, I can honestly say it is not for everyone. I would try to listen to someone who has a pro audio setup before taking the leap, but if you do the speakers your looking at wont brake your pockets if you end up not liking them. Just my .02, hope that helps. -

*laughs* Same thing I was thinking, I like the look plus it adds some type of protection to the original paint as well. I bet the owner of the Ferrari loves how it looks
