im not a noob. i would definitly call myself a rookie. but i am not a noob. this has something ive been thinking about for about a month or two. ive put a lot of thought into it. i will mess around with my bl's before i go spending thousands, but i want to go bigger than bl's anyways so either way ill probably sell my bl's in the end. i have court thursday and they are probably going to suspend my lisense for another year, so i still have a lot of time before i really make my final decision. i have nothing against the bl's, but i just really want to get a super nice system together for myself, and be done with it. no slowly upgrading, buying system after system wasting more and more money to find where my niche is. i just want to go big once and be done with it. obviously i may have to experiment with multiple boxes, but ultimately i just want to have the same equipment for years to come.
-
i know. but ive heard enough systems to know what spl subs sound like.

well it was in a 4 cubic foot box. and that was for 2 15s. it was my first custom box i had built for me, and i asked for 6 cubes. when i got it, i knew it looked small, so i measured it all myself and it came to 4 cubes after displacement. which is retarded small for a pair of 15s. in fact im ambarrased that i didnt call them out before i even brought the box home. but i ended up getting my money back for the box since it wasnt what i asked for. and back when i got the bl's, i was suuuper noob and didnt really know what a 6 cubic foot box even looked like. i just assumed they had it right. so yeah im definitly gonna make a new box for just one 15 and put it in my friends jeep to see how it sounds.

Assuming that they are in a logical box this would make me not even be interested in the DD side of your comparison. And either in a box designed for the task should be able to hit your goal, it will be up to you to make that happen though. i think im gonna build another box for my bl's to see if they sound any different before i make my final decision. i had it in a fairly small box so i know that couldnt have helped the sound at all.

and to answer your question xx24xx of how far im willing to go for this, im willing to spend some dough, but i want this to be all for music for my everyday vehicle. i really dont care about competing, i just want a badass setup for myself. but i want the back seats, taking them out is completely out of the picture. and i heard 4 15" 3500s with 1300 - 1400 rms going to each one, and i thought it was great but i thought it should have just sounded a lil better. thats why im thinking xcons.
-
looking at getting an explorer. dont really have a budget, but i dont have the money yet either. gonna do a bunch of medical studies to get my money together. im thinking 250+ amp alt, 3 kinetik 2400s, 2 runs of 0 gauge to back, big 3, 2 AQ 3500D's. <--- all thats almost for sure but im willing to make changes if i have to. then ill either roll with 2 18" spl subs (thinking btls, level 5s, or something along those lines), OR 4 15" sq subs (thats where the xcons come in), IF i can make a box big enough to fit in the explorer. i still want the 2nd row seats. and at this point im really leaning towards the xcons just cause i dont feel the sound of spl subs cut the cake. but i dont want to trade for loudness, i want loud and sexy sound =]. havent decided on compenents yet, but that wont be that difficult to decide on.

Honestly man i run 2 15 x-cons and im getting a 145.1 with 1100w so at one third of there power handling they are doing those numbers i think it is very possible to get in the 150 range. Not to mention my box is tune to 30hz so its not meant for huge numbers. 145.1 on a termlab?

I would say yes, for sure this could happen. Of course it's all install dependant, but I would say it's very attainable. thank you  . it so damn difficult to get yes/no answers on forums!
-
like i said, i dont want it sounding like ass. personally i dont like the way my bl's sound. and yes im aware my bl's are capable of a 150.
-
and im not asking if MY setup will achieve 150db+, i just simply want to know if u guys think 4 15" xcons or even 2 18" xcons are capable of doing 150+ while being put into an appropriate daily box and tuned for a daily driver (low to mid 30s). i dont need everyone to be like O WELL THERES SOOOOOOOOOOO MANY VARIABLES, THERES NO WAY I COULD EVER POSSIBLY GIVE U AN EXACT ANSWER. just based on the info i gave u, tell me if its do-able. im not gonna hold anyone to their answers. i just want to hear some predictions of whether or not 150 db+ sounds legitamate on music for that particular daily setup.

yeah i know. my next install i want to be a big one. put the fi bl's aside, and step up my game. i like it loud but i dont like it sounding like ass. so i figured id look for a high end sq driver that wont completely kill my wallet. so thats when i thought the xcon might be a good choice. obviously its not going to be cheap, but im not about to go spend a rediculous amount of money for a re xxx or anything else along that line. although the xcon is fairly new, i figured id ask to see if anyones heard 2 18" xcons or 4 15s or something and ask what kind of spl it was looking at. i want to be able to listen to something that hits 150 db and actually enjoy the way it sounds.
