love the pics, and the car looks awesome. Looks like it's just screaming to have a big bumpin sub in the back. Do it up.

well, done sanding for a little bit. Did a first coat of primer. Needs probably one/two more, then more sanding, before deciding on final color. Might be a bit before then though. We'll see.

hey nothing wrong with them (budget amps), if you know what you are getting into ahead of time. I'm running a new Precision Power amp, was fairly inexpensive, but then I'm not expecting it to be the next man made marvel, just wanted something that'll get my sub moving a little.

From what I've seen I highly doubt ///M5 was trying to be discouraging. From what I gather about him from his posts, he speaks (types) what he thinks, and doesn't really sugarcoat anything. To some it may come across as condescending or discouraging, but it is meant to be helpful. Around here, well thought out and worded questions tend to garner better responses. If you are willing to do some research and reading before asking a question, so that when you do, you can provide some background information, as well as what you've already tried, then responses can be more informed and in depth. If all you do is ask a bunch of random vague questions in a million threads, that are hard to connect to each other then some will either provide very vague answers or not answer at all. If you take the time to plan out your posts, and how you want to ask a question, then take the time to proof read, it goes a long way. Not to say that all of your spelling must be correct, or that your grammar must be perfect, but the effort put into answers you get back will most likely reflect the effort you appear to have put into the question.

Well, as promised, progress is really slow. But there is progress. Unfortunately, all the time I had today to work on this, pretty much involved sanding, sanding, and well more sanding. Then, for a couple of minutes, a first coat of putty/wood filler, so only the one pic. This is first coat of filler/putty on all screw heads, and dimples from brad nails. As well as I did the seams between boards. Doing this for the 2 sides, the top and the port facing side of the enclosure which will be facing the rear of the hatch area. The side facing the back of the back seats and the bottom I am not going to bother finishing as they won't be seen. Rear seats are always left up. Also today worked on the piece that will have 2 bolts through it that will go through some flat stock to secure the enclosure to the vehicle. This will also be hid between the enclosure and the rear seat. Oh, and I finally decided how I wanted to finish the enclosure, and that is I have decided to paint it, thus the need for sanding/filling/puttying... Going to be either grey (interior color of vehicle) or silver (exterior color)

still liking the progress. Keep it coming. When I was in my teens I was lucky enough to have my dad's help/care in installs when I first started, so keeping things neat and clean was how it was done. That and it was dad's vehicle that we used to put systems in... So he made sure we did things right and kept it neat. On a side note, managed to get some time today to work on my enclosure, once I have some stuff done to take pics of I will be updating my log as well. Just don't have the time or money to be at it as frequently as I'd like.

the progress is looking awesome. And even though they slow you down, working with the kids is a lot of fun too. Keep up the good work.

telling us that the ssf is all the way up doesn't really help, without letting us know what amps you have and what range the ssf is on them. Same as the gain, 3/4 of what? Every amplifier has a different operable range, likewise, gain setting is going to depend on input voltage from the source. To me if a shop told me to always turn ssf all the way up on bandpass boxes as a blanket statement, I would highly doubt their credibility as every enclosure is designed differently and every amp has a different range for it's ssf. I think this is an example of needing more information on equipment used, exact settings, and design (dimensions) of enclosure.

awesome chunk of goodies there to work with. When I was 14, my brother was 16 and getting into car audio, so together with my dad and brother we all got into it together and started using my dad's 1992 ford ranger xlt as our test vehicle. We built and put a lot of stuff in there. Now my dad has no feeling from the waist down and finds it really hard to do any of this stuff. So I definitely realize how important it is to do these things with my kids and love seeing others (including you) putting in the effort to share the moments with their kids. keep up the progress, and pics. Glad to see you were able to get the wood cut. Hope you checked the cuts to make sure they were on, I know all my local hardware stores won't guarantee cuts except to withing 1/4" off (and are always off even with a digital panel saw....)

definitely can't wait to see this build kick it into overdrive. Sounds like you're one pretty awesome dad. At your son's age I was out in the garage doing all this stuff with my dad. Built a bunch of enclosures with my dad and loved every moment we spent together (he'd pick up sheets of mdf and we'd do all the measurements and cuts together too). Post up more pics as they come.

still needing to learn patience. As I have none. Hopefully that'll change soon.... doubtful. Anyway, at disney world till sunday, so won't be any progress here for a while.

welcome to the forum, lot's of helpful and knowledgeable people on here.

possibly the worst packaging I've seen yet. Glad to hear that they work though. Too bad skar doesn't have any respect for the equipment they are shipping, as by your install work it's obvious you take the time, and give the respect to the equipment you choose to put in your vehicle. Keep up he nice work.

it's 3:50am, andi'm starting to lose my mind a little... to hell with this working midnights thing.

Looking awesome so far. Keep up the good work. And definitely keep those pics coming.
-
Oh, this ought to get interesting. Going to get some popcorn.
-
Keep the pics coming. Love the progress.

Thanks for the compliments. Having the little helpers is fun and trying on the patience all at the same. Can't wait till they're old enough to be buying/designing/building with me. More than the little they can now.

How hot are we talking? All subs warm up, it's a byproduct produced from the electric current flowing through the coil. Damn beat me to it. Bloody slow tablet.

thanks, put it in when my wife got home from work to test fit and have a listen. wow, definitely a lot louder than the sealed box I had in there. And sounds nice too (to me that is, everyone has their preferences). Will have to take some more pics when I have the chance but about to head in to work for the night. Still need to figure out how I want to cover it... not sure whether I want to paint, carpet, vinyl? Need to figure it soon though.

looking good so far. keep it up. I can see why it's so hard to wait for the bigger amp to come in. should be crazy.

Well, keep forgetting to update this, did a few small things here and there with it over the past week, then last night and today got some work done. Here's the progress: So I just did up my wire leads that will go to the sub: didn't have any red heat shrink big enough for the positive wires, so I used blue. And on to the box:

wow, that's a lot of options going on right there. Nice to see the ability to tailor each one to a user's specific end application. Can definitely get time consuming going through all the variables and outcomes with a customer to ensure optimal design per intended application as well. Keep up the good work and progress, definitely shows why so many speak very highly of your products.

my 2 year old apparently fell off of the couch rough housing with his older brother today, and earned himself a "buckle fracture" in his left hand. Apparently it broke three of the small bones in the back of his hand. Played with it afterwards, but woud say "ouch, no touch!" everytime we tried to look at it, and the swelling wasn't going away, so my wife took him down to the hospital after supper.
