2 ED Nine.1s would work well and be about as cheap as you are going to find for some good, clean power. You can spend as much money as you want on amps it just depends what you are trying to do. I have a 2500d going to 2 rl-p 15s ported. are you going for sealed or ported? I am wanting to get a Tahoe and try to get 2 more 15s as well. You are going to need an alt. for sure and probly some deep cycle batts.

My RL-p box sucked, now it's in a better home with

Well now ls1pimp is complaining about his xxx making a noise? lol what an idiot -
Impact of HO Alternator?
tez224 replied to tez224's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I cant put them in the back seat like you did because the backs of my seats are only 14 inches high. I think Im gonna cut up my rear deck and my back seats and try to get some more sound in the cab. It already fills the cab with air and I can feel some air around me and in my hair, but I wanna be able to do the hair trick! -
I have an Orion 2500d and 2 Rl-p 15s ported to 31 hz in 5 cubes. Its really loud, but it seems like the subs arent really working that hard/moving that far. Like when I play low notes like Lil Scrappy "No Problems" my whole car shakes but when I watch the subs they barely move. I am running a stock alternator and I think that is a big problem because my amp isnt putting out anywhere near full power. Would a 160 amp alt. be enough or should I save for a 200 or 220 amp alt. I think Im going deaf too. How much improvement am I going to see with an alt.?

Impact of HO Alternator?

Yes, I did the Big 3 in 1/0 and I have bad dimming problems. Yeah I guess that makes since about the subs moving, they move more on some of the higher notes, but I still dont think they are being pushed to their limits. The only time they make a nasty sound is if my voltage drops to around 12.5 or so. And I was just feeling funny earlier today about my hearing, it sounds better to me now... maybe it was the heat getting to me. I just want to get the most out of my system because its in a trunk with no fold down seat so its hard to get a lot of sound out. Thanks. -
I have my 2 rl-p 15s in 5 cubes tuned to 31 hz. I have my Orion 2500d at 4 ohms giving them around 600 watts apiece. If I turn the gain up a little more than it is, the cone makes kinda like a pinging noise when it hits real hard. I measured my voltage and it stays around 13.5 so I dont think its clipping. Am I simply pushing them too hard or is it possibly clipping or what? I backed off on the gain and the noise went away but the output went down. Are aluminum cones known to make a noise when they are playing this loud, or what? It only makes the noise when I stick my head pretty close. The noise isnt a big deal but I just figured I was pushing them too hard so I backed off. Thanks

I wired them up to 1 ohm and reset my gains and man do these things wang. I really need an alt. though because my gain is only up like 1/3 or it'll clip.
-
oh yeah, and it only makes the noise on low notes
-
I turned the gain down even more and the subs play clean, but they do not move very much at all. Im running a stock alt and batt so I figure that is probably why it clips so easy. I mean, its probably not even as loud as when I had one of these in my friends car with 500 watts going to it. I think Im gonna take them out later today, look at them, and rewire them if nothing is wrong with them.
-
Alright thanks, Ill keep the gain where it is. Is it likely that I already caused some damage to the subs? I think Im going to try to wire them to 1 ohm and drop the gain down.

I have heard many mixed reviews as to how much these subs will actually handle. I have heard about the very strong motor, 2.3'' long 3'' diameter 4 layer VC, and dual spiders. I hear that they have the same thermal power handling as the RE XXX due to the VC. However, are they limited by their mechanical power handling or something else? They sound like they are suited for a lot of abuse but then I recently heard that they do not like abuse (from owners) and that they have a lower power handling than the ID Maxes. The ID Maxes are known to not like 1000 watts or so and are said to be about their limit for daily driving.I am asking because I have 2 RL-P 15s and a Orion 2500d sitting at my house. My plan was to run them at 4 ohms (1200 + watts) and wire them at 1 ohm for burps or occasionally for Daily driving if I felt the need. I realize that I will have to keep the gain down, but I want to know if it would be dangerous to them even with the gain down for daily driving. My box is 5 cubes tuned to about 31 hz. I plan on running them at 1 ohm and see if they can handle it or not but this is a bit of a crapshoot.

Thanks mrray, thats what I wanted to hear. I have also heard subs with xbl^2 do not neccesarily let you know when they are being distorted or overpowered, and it is good to know that I will know when I am pushing the rl-ps too hard. I will be careful when I do run them at 1 ohm for the occasional "STFU" lol.

Well my buddy has a Diamond CM3 in a Prefab (ewwww) ported box which from what I calculated is tuned to about 38 hz running off a Memphis St500d giving it 500 watts at 2 ohms... soooo I got him to drop my Rl-P in it and whaaaam it slaams. Its much louder than his CM3 and my old trio of 12w0s sealed but it just plays all the notes with such ease. I didnt expect too much from the sub with 500 watts and in this box but it sounds pretty darn good. I cant wait to get them in my lower tuned box with 2 x the cone area and 5 x the power (for burps mostly) But yeah everything on his Accord flexes, back window, side fenders of the body, front windshield flexes a lil bit. The sub sounds soooo clean too. Just a quick review I can tell it has a whooole lot of potential, Ill give a better review when I get it properly installed

Yeah, Im sure the rl-p is much more comparable to the m6 and tdx but based on what I had, it whooped the CM3. Oh yeah, hes already got everybody here in Tennessee saying "Wow Ive never heard anything like that Soundsplinter"

I am looking to build a box for 2 15 rl-ps. My max dimensions are 44 D x 17 h x 19 D. I am looking to put both subs on the left side with the port all the way to the right side. I want to tune to about 30 hz. Thanks.
-
If I make the port boards longer, will it lower my tuning? I need it to be tuned to 30-32 hz and I need to start building in a day or two. Is my port going to look like Erics box here? witht he boards being 13.5, 8, and 4.75?? http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.p...&highlight=rl-p My RL-Ps come in Wednesday so I need to get started... And sorry about all the questions... I just need to figure out my port... I think Im going to make the box 44 inches wide. Thanks

Its in the mail

Would this be too much power for them if I watched the gains? I am also thinking about upgrading to 3 rl-ps and the 2500d at .67 ohms
-
2.5 cubic feet tuned to 28 hz is reccomended but anywhere from 28 to 32 hz and up to 3.5 cubic feet would be nice.

Yes, sry I want 30 hz. Also, is that 5.073 cubes before sub displacement? because I need to factor that in as well. I can go 44 inches wide if that will help. Thanks again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Im also a little confused about the port. How does the U go? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Also, I am thinking I want a 1.5 inch front baffle. Thanks again for your help.

Do you have your rl-ps installed and pumping yet? My thinking was to get the 2500d and 2 15s... and if it isnt loud enough or maybe do it anyways... build a new 7.5 cube box and wire the 2500d down to .67 ohms but now im thinking about just running about 1800-2kw to them. Im still not sure. thanks.
