Oops, I meant that it was going to be a 4 cu.ft. sealed box, and maybe ported later. Would I need a HPF for running the Shiva at 150 watts? I see that it is within it's excursion limits, but I was just curious... Also, on my Yamaha anp, it has a "High Cut" knob that goes from 50-150hz. What should I set that at? Thanks for all of the help so far It's been really helpful

Yes, I know that. I am going to make a box soon, 6.35 cu.ft, sealed at first to see how I like it. What size port and length would be required to have the tune around 17hz while keeping the port velocity under controll? I'm still learning about that... Thanks for the help

LOL, I know that, but I just wanted to see what the excursion looked like. Thanks, and funny joke

why would you want a video. Just to see what it looks like plaing a song. Thanks

With what driver? The Shiva? Thanks for the help. The Mag. Oh, Ok. I have decided on what I am going to do I'm getting the Shiva-X as soon as I get the money, then I am going to hold off on the amp. I will just be running it off of my Yamaha amp until Christmas, then I can pretty much get either the Dayton HPSA1000-R or the Crown XLS 402 sub amps. Is there a better amp for my applications around the same price range? Thanks for all of the help. It's greatly appreciated... I quoted myself... Anyways, I need to change a few things that I said in my quote. I'm getting the Shiva-X, and still holding off on the new amp until Christmas. It will still be ran off of my Yamaha 100w amp (very sadly). I will be getting the Behringer EP2500, and the Reckhorn B-1 for a eq and crossover by buying them after Christmas. And, it the sub will be housed in a 6.35 cu.ft box, ported to 22hz Thanks, and I am open to any suggestions for amp, etc...

Are there any videos of the Shiva-X ? Thanks for the help

I'm just trying to find what would be the best compromise between music, games, and movies. This is all using the Shiva and the O Audio 500w amp...in a ported box...just an idea. What I was thinking is use a pretty much permanent large diameter, short port for music, and then put a longer, smaller diameter port inside of the bigger one for movies, and find a way to seal it, and still be able to remove the "movie" port, if needed. Do you think that this would work, or be a good idea? For instance, I would take a 5 inch diameter PVC tube, and seal it to the box. Then, to change the port tuning, I would take a 4 inch diameter port and use a series of progressively thicker o-rings that had slots cut out for them on the 4 inch port pipe, and make it so the o-rings were snug enough to keep the air from flowing around them and to seal it to the bigger pipe, but not tight enough so it is very hard to get the new port in or out. Does that look like it would work? Thanks

Ok, Would a 6.25 cu.ft ported enclousure be good for a room 13x13? Or, does 5.50 cu.ft ported look better? I'm just trying to find what would be the best compromise between music, games, and movies. What I was thinking is use a pretty much permanent large diameter, short port for music, and then put a longer, smaller diameter port inside of the bigger one for movies, and find a way to seal it, and still be able to remove the "movie" port, if needed. Do you think that this would work, or be a good idea? Thanks I will have to check out those movies...when I get the new driver...it just depresses me when I watch movies with my current sub lol. I feel like there is more bass coming out of my cheap front speakers than out of my sub. What do you mean by the bold part in your post?? Thanks

I play a lot of Call Of Duty. My parents have gotten quite mad about them being able to hear bass halfway across the house while they were trying to sleep. Lol What is the difference between second, first, and third order highpasses? Thanks Different circuitry. But for the basics, a first order is -6db, second order is -12db, third order is -18db, etc. Ok, that clears stuff up. Thanks for that. Thanks

For me, it appears that a sealed enclosure would be the best SPL wise for movies: The ported is better for higher fc from 14hz to aorund 60hz, but it is limited because of the HPF I had to apply to keep it within it's XMax limits. The HPF is set a second order butterworth set at 16.40 hz. It is right below it's xmax abilities. The sealed is also right below the xmax line, but didn't need a HPF. I think I will go for the ported one at 5.3 cu.ft, and just run the HPF. I would like it to be better for music over movies, but without it thrashing the sub during movies... Any suggestions?? Thanks

The nice thing about a sealed enclosure is that you don't have to worry about playing too low. A sealed box will have a 12db/octave roll off as opposed to a 24db/octave for the ported enclosure. You have to realize too that if you go sealed you WILL lose output. After having both, I prefer a ported box tuned low, as opposed to a sealed. *That is my personal opinion and I know others will disagree.* True. What size box and ported to what frequency should I model? What size port length? Or should I just experiment?? Thanks for the help

Ok. If I got the Shiva-X and the Bash 500w amp, would I still need to change the HPF filter if it was in a 2.5 cu.ft sealed enclosure? Thanks
-
That depends on the budget, the application and the environment. The original request on another forum was for music, games and movies in a 13' x 13' room and a budget of $400. The Dayton RSS390HF-4 in 7 cu.ft. tuned to 18 hz with a Bash 300 amp would give him 112 db at 20 hz with room gain for games and movies. Plugging the ports would create a sealed sub with a Qtc of .664 for a tighter sounding bass for music. The best of both worlds within the budget stated. I am aware, but his idea of music is output and he will be gaining none by going that route so it won't fit his "best". I really doubt that tighter sounding is his concern. I actually would like tighter sounding bass over just a lot of extreme rumble while listening to songs, or whatever you want to call it. Ecept for in Down 4 T h a Krown Mike, would I need a highpass filter or anything for the Dayton HF in the 7 cu.ft enclusure? Thanks
-
Ok. Do games have pretty much the same frequencies as movies? Thanks again
-
Ok. What do you think would be the ideal frequency to get the best out of music and movies? Like 20hz? Or lower? Thanks for all of the help
-
Ok. Now I see. I had already thought that some music was around 30 to 40 hz, but I wasn't sure. Now, can I build a box for the Dayton or the Shiva, ported to the correct frequency, and plug the port when I am going to listen to music, if needed? Thanks

No, I wouldn't use the Kickers in HT either, I learned after my first post in this topic... And, I really like what is suggested. I just wanted to see how the Kickers modeled, and if someone could tell me how much gain in SPL there would be from his single cab. Now, I just need to decide on which one to get: Shiva, Dayton, Mach 5. I just can't decide which one would be better for my application of 60% music 35% games and 5% movies (I will be watching more movies over the summer so it will be like 60% music 25% games 15% movies)...I'm pretty sure it's the Shiva though. Basically, my goals are for the sub to be better than my brother in law's truck. I have listened to it a lot, and really like the bass in it. I'm sorry if there was any confusion here, I didn't mean for there to be any. I guess I can restate my goals... I mostly want the sub to be able to get the lows in music, and hit pretty hard, if that is possible...I don't know much about subs, so I don't know if those are two opposite things... Secondly, I want it to get stuff in games like explosions and whatever else is hidden in games because of my sub, becuase my current sub reallly likes to bottom itself out on stuff like that... Thirdly, I want it to pick up lows in movies...the type of lows that you can feel...and of course hear also. I would also really like to not be able to bottom the sub out, if possible, becuase that is very annoying... So, is the Shiva-X with the Bash 500w amp still the best driver choice for those goals? Thanks and I apologize for any confusion... Edit: dem beats What do you mean by the bold part? I'm not fully understanding it... Thanks

I would have modeled the Dayton in there also, but ran out of space...

Here is the cone excursion with eq's set so the driver is right below full excursion...except for on the Kicker...not needed Is that how you are supposed to set up the eq's and filters? I don't fully understand them yet...but I'm getting it Thanks
-
Here is a graph of the 2 Kicker C10's, the Shiva-X, and the Mach 5 MJ-18M. Clearly, all the others excell over the Kickers, but I don't know how much gain in SPL there would be from the single cab of his truck
-
LOL, if that is what you call lows you have been deceiving us. If that's what you have to compare them too, any one of those subs is going to blow your socks off! Like Sean said, what is it you call lows? Haha, that would be sorta low, nothing like movies, I guess. So, the Shiva-X, Dayton 15" HF, or the Mach 5 MJ-18M will be able to match that or even better beat that in my room? I know that cars have a lot of gain, especially the single cab like my brother-in-laws'. I just want something that basically can beat how his Kickers do... because I really like how they sound.... Thanks for all of the help

My brother in law has 2 Kicker COMP 10" subs runnin off of a Kicker 200.1 amp in a single cab truck. When he plays Down 4 T h a Krown, the subs pick up the lows in the song really good. Would the Shiva-X, the Dayton 15" HF, or the GR Research sub with the Servo amp be able to pick up the lows as good as that? Thanks
