That is only due to lack of setting things up equally. I completely disagree and so will 99% of other audiophiles. The best amplifiers are ones that only amplify the input signal without adding any tonal color. GL with that because this is subjective. Has anyone ever proved that a certain amp gives a tonal color to the amplified sound? I have never seen a article where they test amps and see a difference in tonal color... Except just people telling that amps do add a tonal color.( probably just to justify the amount of money they spend on a amp.)

It was never classified as SQ sub.
-
I don't know why you are spreading false info, but they never said it was a SQ subwoofer, they said this: "I believe the SMD was not linear in the way an SQ woofer should be for performance at lower volumes, but please note an 18” subwoofer of this magnitude needs to be played loud." They say it's not a SQ subwoofer, so i don't get it where you get the WRONG info. EDIT: Bassauholic, read the review on caraudiomag.com. It's different from what bam bam says.

If you're talking about the smd, then the sound quality at high volume is better then at low volume..( it has more "kick" to it.) EDIT: Spelling error.

New Sundown and I'm having some difficulties.

Well you just gave the answer.. Replace the RCA's ? -
I'm not sure you know a lot about subwoofers... The enclosure matters waaay more then the subwoofer. Now i've said that, the SMD isn't a high powered competition sub. It's a musical subwoofer meant to handle crazy amount of power and sound good doing it. IT IS NOT A BURP SUBWOOFER.

MP3s, how and why they affect our systems, and system choices

That explains why i could hear a difference between 256kbps and cd-quality and couldnt hear it with 320kbps and cd-quality. -
I've seen that, but none of them could power a lot of power.(more then 1000W.) Can't see no 3600 watts out of that amp, especially not with that power supply. No way you get 3600watts out of that amp with 250 amps forth of fusing. 250*14.4=3600W. But it has about 70-75 % efficiency, so that 2700 at max before blowing fuses, and i don't think the you have 14V batteries and a 16V charger. I'm sorry if i dissapoint u. (I just have never seen a car amp powered correctly in house, and you can't do it without having a higher cost then using a dedicated home amplifier.)

How do you power the amp?
-
LOL Excuse for that... You can hear SQ from a subbass amp? Aren't you the guy who uses a car amp in house?

MP3s, how and why they affect our systems, and system choices
kirill007 replied to sandt38's topic in Technical Info & How To's
It may be audible, but I can tell you my brain can't distinguish a difference. And while driving a car no one can. I would also extend that to most listening environments. No trivial task to truly have a room that will excel in highlighting the differences. Didn't even think about car invironment (sp?), whilst driving i think it would be impossible to hear a difference. -

Apparently you didn't read the whole post. This was based on MP3 compression, so who cares about .wma at 1106? That is the lossless cd bitrate what i was talking about. So you conclude that you notice differences in some instruments and that there is a loss of dynamics? You notice it doesn't sound as clear? You notice sparkling highs are not there? OK, so you agree that the emotion or harmonics as i refer to them in this post are gone, and that it doesn't sound the same. So you are saying that this is correct, yet you are still arguing? Im not arguing You say it's not worth it if you don't have good equipment? I guess you missed the part where I stated just that. i also mention that if you use compressed formats that lower end components will be a better choice for you. I am sorry because i agree with you...So you didn't want me to see that i agree with you? So why argue when you just stated that in your test, which you went into with a bias opposing my conclusions, the results were the same and you drew the same conclusions I did about equipment choices based on the quality of the source material? Should I have summarized this in a couple sentences? OK here goes for you... If you use MP3 formats like many do, don't buy high end gear. It will simply sound better on lower end gear. Why, because MP3s lose sound quality which is more apparent on high end systems than it is on low end systems. Better? Yes, better, i agree with the last statement. -
Cheapest amp that will power a 15" BL nicely?
kirill007 replied to TylerBabbitt's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Lol wut? Batteries don't create power, they store it, by converting electrical energy into chemical energy. 95honda gave great advice, and if you don't find any crimpers you can always solder -

Yes, and 1400kbps? (i saw from where u got it, but experience says different) Highest bitrate that i have is 1106kpbs,most of it is about 950, and it depends on the song what bitrate it has. So if u use the most common bitrate of 960 it is only a third that you hear. And you don't need the freqeuncies above 20khz or below 20hz, so those freqeuncies are gone. That's what they do, use the loudest freqeuncies and remove everything else. I've noticed that instruments do sound a tiny bit different(piano), and that there seems to be less dynamics. The freqeuncies that are really high are gone so it doesn't sounds as 'clear'.(i don't like to use subjective words.) The 'sparkling" highs aren't there, couldn't notice no difference in bass nor midbass. Haven't tried out a song with voices so i don't know if voices are affected but according to my theory there shouldn't be any change with how voices sound. What do you hear that is different between a mp3 and cd-quality? (not sceptical anymore, there is a small difference not worth it if you don't have good equipment or ears, and not needed for everyday listening.) EDIT: i compared a 256kps MP3 to cd-quality. -

I couldn't notice a difference between 320kpbs MP3 and cd-quality. But i could notice a difference between 256kps and cd-quality, but i think i used a bad song. I haven't found the cd from alice in chains unplugged, nor Dark Side of the moon or that other one. I think i have the pink floyd cd, but didn't find it yet. My father nor mother could hear any difference between 128kbps MP3 and cd-quality...Nor that guy with his high quality 'expensive" Bose equipment.. -
I can't really understand anyone who says: 'ZCON!". They aren't out yet. The BTL will be a good choice, the Nightshade too, DD is too expensive. A AA mayhem is also a great choice.

I meant something with the colors black and red and SSA , doesn't needs no fancy carbon fiber. Like the first one, but it black and red

Maybe something more like the sig u have Mark? Like black and red? instead of pink

Oh, i'm sorry i always use wma files, not mp3 so i'm sorry for the misunderstanding.(so not mp3, i'm wrong, but my mp3 can read it, i forgot my settings) And you can hear a difference in metal, death metal between a mp3 and wav? (because most metal, death metal i've heared isn't mastered properly in the studio.) How do you get you're mp3? Because the difference between when you rip a cd and just rip it in 320mp3, or ripped it in full quality and then used a converting program, well the last one is the worst. (or even waaayyy worse if u download songs. ) Actually i haven't really tried out the 320mp3 and a normal wma lossles , so i'll try it tomorrow.(do you have any songs in particular for that in mind? i thought some micheal jackson songs, because those were mastered properly.) (i'm sorry because i can be quite sceptical, and if i can't hear it myself or when a bunch of people tell me it's right i only agree with things.) -

Can you actually hear the difference between a 1000kb/s mp3 and just straight from a cd? ( don't forget to copy both, the original so you need to burn it again on you're own cd's and then burn mp3. That's maybe why you lose quality because you can't burn the cd's properly) I have never heared difference between types of speaker cable or like this a 1000+kb/s mp3 and just cd quality. And i've listened it on B&W 802 speakers and a pair of monoblock's.(can't remember brand) What music do you listen to that u can hear the difference? -
Any difference with upgrade?

at the same frequency all three times? also.. if any of those tests were clipped.. or clipped more than the other.. a square wave will produce peaks in MANY frequencies which will cause your ear to perceive a sound audibly louder than what it might be because of frequency shift. Same frequencies, I was burping, rolling volume. All these numbers was round abouts, not 100% sure on the exacts until I pull up my old thread. Don't know about clipped, didn't scope them or clamp, so have no idea of actual power. Point is, I sat there and hear differences that wasn't 3dBs apart. I know the theories. I know power compression. My point is, I know what I heard. There is the answer, didn't scope it, and you're telling you don't know if the numbers are 100% accurate? at the same frequency all three times? also.. if any of those tests were clipped.. or clipped more than the other.. a square wave will produce peaks in MANY frequencies which will cause your ear to perceive a sound audibly louder than what it might be because of frequency shift. I can hear increase\decrease on same tone less than 3db when sitting there over and over listening to the same note.. however.. the frequency is not the ONLY thing u hear.... Resonances from vehicle, vibrating objects, frequency shifting... Ching, ching, we have a winner Feel? That's what i thought, you did not hear it get louder, you felt it. -
And for you're equipments sake i would buy a voltage meter so u can keep you're eye on the voltage. (costs about 30-40 dollar i think? maybe less) And going below 12V isn't good.
-
I always like it if people say they want a SQ woofer that handles 2-2.5kw...
-
I would also go with the sundown, it will produce about the same power in a normal install. And the customer service is better and quality, and you have a warrenty.
