    Front Comps

best and first advice : go listen to some comps first . for sq I'd take the RE XXX of the list , the Focal access series of focal isn't all that eighter , morels sound great but take note that the Elate's and Hybrid ovation like small boxes and aren't really made to play in car-doors so a bit of extra building is required (woth it by all means) . higher lines of Hertz , Focal , Rainbow ,Dynaudio are all good choices I really like the Focal K2power line , but is a tad outside your budget . and this is a PERSONAL PREFERENCE but one I'd like to share ; I pracically never look at the phaseplug models ,often the midrange is better but at the expence of kickbass

    AA Chaos

I"ve done builds with the chaos for myself and others , it really is a very good sounding sub that can be made to go very loud in the right enclosure .

    loudest $300 sub

this got waaaay offtopic . a good woofer is a good woofer , dont care who build it . for sq : an enclosure that allows the woofer to extend down sufficiantly and as flat as possible ,terminate the cars peak resonance without eq' ing as much as possible , getting your car free of any resonances that make you locate the sub , if you can't fully accomplish that, mount the woofer up front . sounds easy ? just eq'ing everything out will make your system sound like shit so it comes down to craftsmanship , good ears , time, a good rta and actually knowing how the music in question is supposed to sound like. that extra 100 bucks spend on a woofer really is secondary did the topicstarter find his woofer ?

Has anyone heard a vehicle walled at the c-pillar?

I like the idea of an wall behind the c-pillar very much , 2 less windows and 1 door less that are going to flex and woofers are not playing directly to the roof , maybe even a chance to brace that same roof with that wall , the rest is the same as a box behind the c-pillar ...........regardless of what other people think.........build it well and it WILL pound ....... @bassahaulic , +160 db in such a wide range ..........Yes we need proof !

BUILD LOG Explorer limo 6 IB3s walled 300 cubic feet 50"x12"x3

    so .... a transmissionline for 2x18 would fit ?
  10. REVpuggie

    What would you do?

If the rear seats would be out a 2x15 might just fit nicely .....single 3kw amp , batts in the back ... should be within budget real low tuning and competing generally don't mix well

    Need some bandpass help.

As promissed , I've run the numbers and came to the conclusion that 95Honda is absolutely right , these woofers are far better of in a vented or sealed enclosure . 3,5cuft tuned to 33hz would be fine , just make sure you don't make a trunk rattler ..so sealed it of from the trunk and directly play into the cabin

    Need some bandpass help.

didnt mean to be rude or bash the whole idea .........but if you're gonna do it , do it right !

    Need some bandpass help.

what kind of BS boxcalculator is that ?and even that you're not using it right , read the upper 2 sentences again . sure..............a passband from 26 to 70 hz but how linear is it ? Why an F3 of 26 hz ?
  14. REVpuggie

what does it take to get 150dB @ 25Hz?

a lot of concrete and thick steel helps , some basic understanding how to shift a soundwave 180degrees helps too , and how to get that at the meter ......25Hz damn thats low ! an spl style box (which is not really a box) or some kind of hybrid horn where I come from we have a saying : Beter goed gejat dan slecht bedacht ! which basically means it better to steel a good idea than to think up a bad one ! so if your not able to make your own plans for an install that will do numbers like this , steel em !(or buy it...probably a little more ethical) look on the internet and find a car that does these kind of numbers and rebuild that install , sounds easy enough doesnt it ... hint : 48 SA10's ....

    new car new build

I think you underestemate the sound coming from a 12inch or a 2x10 inch setup , you really want to look into a bandpass box ,bass that lingers in your trunk is not a problem that is solved with more cone area , although that is the solution most often used .

    new car new build

doubt you'll srew up the sheetmetal in the trunk just to put in a few woofers , having a car like that , a bandpass enclosure just might be for you Space requirement will be an issue , for musical preference I personally favour a 6th order bandpass over a 4th order bandpass enclosure .... 2x 12 if you have the space ... BL if your going 6th order .

    5 to 10 MPH my A$$

would depend on how he hit the curb and what kind of weight are we talking about ? keep in mind that cars are not build to slide against curbs whith all that weight on one point ... this just might be easier to fix than a frontal hit..

how about telling us what kind of vehicle you've bought and how much space you're willing to sacrifice ?

  20. I suggest playing a test tone cd , testing if it happens on a particular frequency , this could mean there is a wire power wire making ground that is hanging in free air most of the time and makes ground when it resonates ...probably the wire got accidentally moved when installing the other HU . please get rid of the electrical tape , there are kinds of tape what come loose in cold weather ...normally got something to do with how old the tape is and stiffness of the tape itself , the only good tape is the super soft one you have to pull untill it turns grey , that stuff will hold forever .

what volume do you considder a door , an SUV obviosly has bigger doors than a mini cooper T/s available on short term ? definatly looking in to these , still undecisive on kick drivers .... found an fullranger that might do the trick after a small mod , but this just might be the better choice . subscribed .

    Amp for 2 xcons

the whole idea is that SQ everything schould blend perfectl have a flat response and be in tune with the rest of the system , it would not play notch louder than the front speakers at the ear .thats what the debate is about . thats why you shouldn't use the term SQ when a woofer is going the used playing louder than the rest of the system .
