Got mine, and have installed it in the truck. Sure is a big boy, I had to add an additional piece of 3/4 MDF in order for the magnet to clear a box support! So I really did not increase the volume of the box by much, only the displacement... So box is about 1.1~1.2 FT^3 now. In order to run this sucker, I had to buy a new amp and install that this weekend as well. Hifonics BX1500D. Think that I may have some sort of issue right now as the amp has gone into "protect" mode on several occasions. Once when first firing up the system while setting up the amps...turned the volume up a bit (not loud by most standards) and the sub dropped out. Saw that the amp was still on, and not hot in the least (D-class should not get hot anyway). Turned system off and back on and it worked for the next 10 minutes -had to go back in the house to eat. Next morning (this morning), just put key into ignition, and before listening to music, took a look at the amp and it was in protect mode (red light illuminated) Had to turn off system a few times to get it to stay on. (green) I am hoping that I have some sort of wiring issue as the speaker cables I used inside the box were not playing nice as they were too thick to easily insert two wires into one terminal...I am going to have to do something about that (smaller guage wire I suppose). I will check all that out a little bit later today if I can get home at a reasonable hour... Sounds incredible while it was up and running... Mike

Well, I went ahead took a chance and purchased a set of the CDTs CL6Xs, with the imaging enhancement kit. Just need to wait until they arrive and I can find a local shop that will do a nice clean install for my F150. -MW Thanks for the headsup on the Polyglass Focals, as they were what I was going to purchase if I went with Focal. My Infinitys do the same thing at higher volumes as well. Not interested in a speaker that loses control at slightly elevated volumes...I may be older, but I still like to turn up a song or two when rolling down the highway.. -MW

I am going on 40 years old. The last thing that I am looking to do is draw attention to myself or my truck, which I use to take me to the local MX tracks. I am in the process of trying to build a system with sound quality. I am in the process of also looking for components for the front speakers to replace my 5X7 Infinity Kappas. They are simply too harsh for me, and I am looking for the better front sound stage and presence that separates can typically offer. Thinking ADS 326, CDT, or possibly the lower end Focals...Not sure yet. But yes, the BX1500D is way more power than the sub needs, but the box is completely sealed, AND I am thinking that more is better when it some to SQ. Mike "still cannot wait for the D2"

Like anyone cares, but I finished my sealed box for the D2 today!!! It is a 1ft^3 odd shaped MDF box where 75% of it is under seat...front firing. Due to impatience on my part, I went and threw in a DUAL 10" POS that I bought for another application for something like $40 (basically to cover an opening in an AR home subwoofer that had been in storage where rats had eaten into the cone...long story but I cannot get myself to part with that set) Anyway, even though this is a crappy sub, the hit is better than the JL stealthbox that had been stolen from my truck. The downside is it is not as musical as the JL was, but man I cannot wait for the D2 to arrive. At which time I will also have the Hifonics BX1500D to run it. Woohooo! Crash

I must say that I am new to this stuff. I had a JL Audio stealthbox taken from my truck. 10". It was powered by the Alpine MRV-500 and it never hit like I wanted. The sound was great, just not much punch. So I do not know if it was the sub, or the amp. With these, I know that the Amp will not like running to 1 ohm, or at least that is the consensus. This is why I am on the fence. The Alpine will likely go into the wife's car, with a home made box, and for that reason the D2 may not be the best choice. The D2 will go into my truck in a home made box (sealed) that I am most likely going to run with a Hifonics BX1500D, which can be had online for $200. I am hoping for JLW7 quality and quantity sound from this setup... -Crash

So if it is happening, then I need to shop for an amp! Yippie... I already built a box, and may throw another sub in there for the meantime...a 10" POS outta do it, and certainly highlight the 12 when it arrives. Getting anxious.

The Alpine amps are not stable to 1 ohm. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thus the reason that the truck is getting a Hifonics amp and a D2, and I am sitting on the fence regarding the second sub...might have to go with the D4 for the second system. I also have my doubts about the actual power output being 500. Seems kinda high for the amp...

I added one, and am looking at a second, but my Alpine amp may not cut it a 1ohm. I have a MRV-500, anyone know if this is too small of an amp? Or a really good price on an amp that I could put in the wife's car to power a sealed 12? I am buyin a HiFonics for my truck and the first Rl-p D2 (12") if this buy goes through. Mike (crashmw)
