Factory Amp
racerx86 replied to racerx86's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Ok thanks for the help ill give him the news. -
Okay so im asking this question for a friend of mine. He just recently bought a hu from a local shop and they do free instal with the purchase...well they said that his car has a factory amp and that they will have to by pass it by running all new wires which will cost $120. I am still learning but this just doesnt seem right. I mean why would you want to bypass a amplifier? The shop said that running the amp would equal less output to the speakers but bypassing it would make it louder. I just dont quite understand the logic so if someone could explain it would be great. thanks

So i was listening to my system today and i put my ear next to the box and i heard some sort of slapping noise. I know this cant be a good thing but who knows im a noob. I have a 12'' Q with the BP option being powered by a hifonics bxi1208d. I have the gain at half way and the sub sonic at 32 hz and the low pass at around 100 110. I have a down firing box, 2.5^3 ft tuned to 32 hz. Is the sub supposed to make this noise or what? thanks for any help

Okay i finally got to it and im happy with my result: This may sounds stupid but alls i did was take the sub out of the box and put it back in but i tucked the wires in differently than the shop that built my box did. Soooo the slapping noise must of been the speaker wires slapping around. I kinda feel stupid but when you hear what i heard, you start to get worried haha. Overall i am glad that it was nothing major. Also i would like to add some thanks to all the people that helped me out on here. I have learned a lot from just reading. My Q is amazing and would change a thing. Thanks again!!

okay well i plan on going back to the audio shop to talk to them tomorrow. Baseball is finally over... but i have two more questions: can i free air the sub on regular music on low power/volume? and should i stick with a down firing box or a tradition ported box? My ride is an f150 extended cab. thanks again
-
where would you put the lp at? im just wondering
-
I have had baseball games everyday so i havent done much with it.. If i were to free air it, what should i wire the sub to? Its a dual 2. I have a hifonics bxi 1208d. As for my current enclosure, i think i may take it to the shop that built it and have them throw a sub in it and test and see if it is slapping. Time is just not on my side at this point but i will FOR SURE get to it this weekend.

Is the shifted magnets going to affect my sub in any way? Should i send it back in? I havent had it for long so i assume its still under warranty.
-
okay ill take the sub and put it in a different box and see if the noise continues.
-
Ok well i hope this worked for pictures..... If you cant tell on the one of the magnet, it is shifted. IDK if it was supposed to be like that or what. Please let me know what to do and what you guys think.

So i was playing it again yesterday just to see if i wasnt crazy and i heard it again. I will be taking the sub out of the box and inspecting what is wrong. it seems like it is only making the noise when it hits the lows so it could be the box slapping. I will keep you guys updated.
-
To tell you the truth, i think that may be it because i would of heard this noise from before.... that brings me to another question though: Is a down firing box better than a standard ported box for my truck? Ford F-150 Ext. Cab.
-
sounds like a plan, thanks a lot guys!
-
I have had my sub for maybe a month and a half maybe two so idk if its the new style or not... but for the picture im going to have to wait till tomorrow to take it and set up a photobucket account. What do you guys suggest for the low pass setting?
-
I thought you wanted your sub sonic set to where your box was tuned at....chit i guess i was wrong. Where do you think i should set it, i know its all on listening preference but i want a range. thanks
-
This may not be directly about an Fi product but i didnt know where else to go to. Hope you guys dont mind...but i was thinking about upgarding to a better amp. I currently have an hifonics bxi1208 powering my 12'' Fi Q with Bp. I was thinking about an audioque 1200d. Would this amp be that much better? All my electrical is stock. My alt is a 130 amp. Thanks
-
I just think the sub can handle a lot more but idk if i will be able to tell the difference...
-
Im getting my hands on one this weekend. Ill check it all out.

I have a 12'' fi Q and when i got my box built the guys put a separate wire on each voice coil. Its a dual 2 ohm sub. What is the final ohm i am getting once i connect it to my amp?
-
I have a hifonics bxi 1208d. the sub is already in the box and the wires are already ran outside of it. The guy said that it is a 1 ohm final load. I just wanna make sure. *just to make things clearer i have four wires ( two positive and two negative) ran outside my box*

I have a 12'' fi q with the bp option in a downfiring box 2.5 cu ft tuned to 32 hz. I have a hifonics bxi 1208d powering it. I am worried that i am clipping the signal. I had the radio turned up to 25 ( goes up to 62) and everything sounded good and crisp but when i turn it up to 50, it seems like the bass isnt as loud and not as crisp. Idk if i have things set right. Here are the places i have things set two: Subsonic: Three o'clock LPF: 1 o'clock Gain: 12 o clock Bass Eq: 12 o clock I know hifonic amps are known for clipping and are pretty cheap. I just need some advice on what this is. I dont wanna fry my baby.

There is no such thing as underpowering a sub. Its a myth that someone made up.
