Ok, got that. What is a 'CRX' style? Is that an acronymn for something, or just slang for certain style box? Any pics you could link?

So, 90% of on speakers means the ALS16 components would only be $27.00 + shipping??? I might have to try a set for that price. Can I just use the contact page, or do you have an inside contact that I/we need to talk to? -

ok, but if a recommended port size si 25in^2, then wouldn't that be a specific tuned length? So, I would need to decide at what hz I want it 'tuned' and then that will determine port size?

Well, got the top of the box sanded, bondo-ed, and sanded agian. Loaded the RL-p, and gave it a test run. Now, granted, I am using a loaner amp that is not quite 300w, but i just HAD to hear it. I think my dissapointment is the box. I love the way it turned out, but as you can see in the pic below, due to my air-tanks, I had to raise the woofer up higher than I wanted to, so, I think what I am hearing is some cone noise..I dunno. I put up a piece of wood in between me and the speaker, and it sounded MUCH better. I should have a good amp in a week or so, and then I'll have more power going to it. In the mean time, I'm gonna try and think of another box design. Anyways..here is the pic..and I am open to suggestions on design changes, or confirmation that the woofer should not be that high.

I am working on my enclosure, and am wondering which way to face the sub. I have 2 options with my limited space, either face the back side of the back seats, or face the rear hatch glass. If I go towards the rear hatch, I cant get much of an angle towards the glass, it would be about 3" below the horizontal line. Sub in question will be a 12" RL-p. MattB

Here are some updated (today) pics. Should have the box done sometime this week- or at least, ready to paint, and upholster. enjoy.. the side wings are where the amps will go..one on either side..

Ok, I have 1 RL-p 12" d4 en route to me right now. I have a 1.4cf sealed enclosure awaiting its arrival. My task now is to select an amp for the beast. I see the rms watts listed for the sub @ 500. Should I be looking for an amp that produces less that that (300-400 rms), or is the 500-600 range rms gonna be ok? I have certain size restrictions, as the amp cant be much over 14" wide. I am open to really any model, I guess I dont have a preference. This is my first dive into 'real' equipment, as in the past, I have only used, what I would call entry level stuff. I have considered phoenix gold, mtx, planet audio, hifonics..but, I dont know what by todays standards, is not 'entry level' equipment. I mean, I dont want this badda$$ sub, with some cheapo amp, and people wondering why I am using that amp. Any thoughts would be appreciated. My price range on the sub amp would be not more than, say $350ish. MattB e-Autotrim.com

cool, I'll keep a watch on that, and a few others. I did manage to pick up a new in box 16mc-2004 for $150. Hopefully that will do alright for my misc. other spkrs. ..getting closer..

woot woot..got the rl-p 12 in today. ..and WOW , that puppy carries some weight! SO..gonna work on teh box more tonite, and my last box question is: Is there a certain amount of distance, or 'minimum amount' there should be between the bottom of the magnet, and a wall of the box?

There is a st500d memphis on ebay, ends tomorrow, current $ is about $150. I dont find any spec sheets online for it though. The auction says it is 500x1 @ 2, but, sometimes you get bad info in the descriptions. Is it truely a 500x1 @ 2?
-
cool, thanks..back to watching auctions.. oh the joy..
-
..oh, and are eclipse amps decent, or stick with memphis..?
-
ok, one more opinion poll here..looking at the memphis mch1300 (i know, way out of my original price range)..but, this amp is LONG,which means I would have to offset my sub to one side, making things "un-symmetrical" (sp) in the back end. SO: 1. screw the looks, get the one amp to run everything.. 2. looks matter, make both sides even looking..get 2 amps.. 3. that rl-p will make my passenger rear sit lower than the driver side...dont do it. I'm still watching a few aucitons on the 1000d too..what I dont know is what is a good $ for a good used one? I dont even know what they retailed for, since there is not a memphis dealer within 100 miles of me..

true.. thanks!

hmm. I looked, was it in the classifieds, or the main site..musta missed it..

Cool, thanks. I was looking at that MTX, read some good reviews on that. back in the day, I used to run the orion stuff, but I think with my size limitations, those might be too big. Hopefully have a decsion by this weekend. On another note, I took some time off work today, and went to 4 diff. stereo shops around here. What a dissapointment....I guess I'll be internet ordering.

We have 40" and 80" width 'trunk liner'. The 80" is un-backed, the 40" has a latex backing. 40" retails for $11.49, and the 80" is $19.99 yd. We do have qty. & shop prices too though.

true that. Appreciate all the fast help from you guys! MattB

yeah, I really dig that style. Not too sure about the indo audio dude though. I remember reading something a while back on the12v bbs, or sound domain site..

I like the looks of that one, personally. The trick now is finding a memphis dealer around me. I'm gonna research some more online, and then hit every stereo shop in town this weekend. MattB
