Hardest part about havign a usable bench for powerful amp is having a stable load that can handle all the power.
-
no, i mean what tones do you consider low. im tuned to 28Hz...
-
also, small enclosures like this one (which was made from scrap wood out of bordom, hence the lack in quality) take me less than an hour to get the the point of putting on a finish. and that is the kind of enclosure people are wanting more than ones like this which even then takes me about 2-2.5hrs to get to the finishing point. even still a ported qlogic enclsorue made from like 5/8 MDF and had no bracing cost 80bucks and isnt tuned to the driver to be used, so that is still a deal IMO. well im gonna take these prices to 2 potential custoemrs tomarrow and see how they like it. I'm also probably going to put like a warranty on craftsmanship and a maximum 2.5week turn around time once i take their money then they get a discount unless i sawy otherwise ath the time of payment.

Because of the price of the two local audio shops to get a true custom enclosure built, everyone any anyone is getting cookie cutter boxes from them. IE, preprogramed into their saw for their vehicle, or, even cheaper, basically prefab w/o the actualy fabrication. Better than prefab but unless the T/S params lend themselves to the given volume/tuning and the box is tuned to the owners ears, they end up unsatisfied. I've already done a few boxes for people around school and they have been extremely satisfied. I recive complements almost daily on "so and so's" box. But these where mostly close friends and i charged very little. My question is, how much should i charge to make it economical for me to build the enclosure with out them flocking back to the local audio shops because they are "Trusted" even though im known as the audiophile at my school im looking for business from the local community college and the older bunch as well. Because i have limited tool resouces it takes me longer than if i had a loaded shop. More sanding/slight cut corrections. I was thinking $10-$15/hr + true matierial costs (as if i had to buy all new materials every time, so if i have extra's lying around that is a few extra bucks in my pocket) for sealed enclosures and a bit more for ported. Design process isnt included in the hours. Sound fair? This would put the cost for a decent enclosure at less then half the price of a similar enclosure from the local audio shops. However, should I include isntalation in that or should i just have it a "here it is, do it yo's self." i dont mind tearing into friends cars to run wires because they are, freinds, but for $10/hr im not going to tear into some strangers car to run wires, end up breaking something and turn around looseing more money having to fix it. ideas/opinions?

takes me about 4-5hrs start to finish, painted or w/e and all. and that is for a big enclosrue like the one for my 18, which is almsot 8cuft, so i'd becompensated for that as well. around $10-$15/hr is you want to look at it like that. And its underthe table, non taxable so that is double what im getting at my job job and i enjoy building enclosrues alot more than putting ocmptuers togather, dealing with retarded customers, and setting up networks along with testind harddrives for 4hrs a day...

True...here is the 2 price lists im thinking of. 40 + Materials for sealed 55 + Materials for Ported If its >4cuft the price goes up $20 Materials have a 10% mark up. Fiberglass is the same for either with fiberglass stuff. OR 65 for sealed < 4cuft Finish Not Included 80 for Ported < 3.5cuft Finish not included >4cuft add $25 > 8cuft add $50 so on and so forth Same incraments with ported Finish Prices: Truck Bed Liner: $35 Carpet: $35 Vynil: $25+ Cost of vynil (diferent quality vynils are different prices) Paint: Starts at $50 Fiberglass Enclosures $20/hr + Materials 10% mark up on materials.

hmmm what did i vote for... DD is SPL, not sub 30Hz play-fun im actally saying toss up between the new xxx and ascendant's Havoc btw, what do you consider rediculously low? 30hz? 25? 20? 15? i like 15 on my ava 18.
-
Got dropped during shipping. Bought it for $70 shipped. Mostly for the TC9. Figured i'd fix it untill i had the money to have it reconed to an 18. I wanted to hear it before i did that though.
-
Well for now im gonna fix the flexi basket and if i ever have the money i may send it in to be made into an 18... soo here is what i did today. I would like to fix it to the point it wont need a support ring on it so i can put the gasket back on make it look brand new. I dont know how im going to do that because that will be one hell of a weld to get the broken spoke back to the basket.

chit fudge chit driving home from school today, music playing next thing i know my truck starts randomly slowing down and my ABS light is blinking. THen i see my voltage meter is droping lower than usualy with the beat. I turn the system off and everything is good. Turn it back on and same problem. Im pretty sure my alternator just died on me. how this relates to the ABS randomly comming on i dont know. Glad my 4 year old battery had the life in her to get me home, Hopefully it can get me to the parts store to have my battery and alternator tested. If it is the alternator, while im paying $150 for a new stock replacemnt, i'll probably pay $100 more tops for a Hight Output Alternator. Since my battery needs replacing too, i may as well drop in a red top. sucks thought because i was planning on a HU but that may have to wait. We will see. This really sucks. I dont know how i will make it to school for the rest of the week either. Glad i get paid today.

yep, a whopping 55w. cant wait to get the sony installed for her and see how much they wang with 220w each. I thought it was 110w then i was like "wait, that is at 2ohm" here are the unpaintedness and the ugly paintedness that will change soon. i took pics of the HU/Amp but the cam isnt showing them on the upload software so ill figure that out tomarrow.

Never knew thoes days. When i came into it DD 9900's where the top dog SPL winners, DD was winning everything SPL, SQ competitions wherent carred about. And the XXX had just gotten rid of the boob dust cap. what was what? 3-4yrs ago? RE is moving towards dealer networks, which sucks, however their MSRP for what you get is alot better than what Dan did when he moved to a full dealer network was assanine to his loyal lovers before. A shiva 10 going for over $150 when it is no better than an RE 10 and doesnt stand a sneeze of a chance agianst an assasin both of which can be had for less than half the price...on top of the fact that even JL which is hugely inflated, sells the w1v2 for less than that makes it even more inflated. sure its a great driver but cost too much. The Koda, which isnt a whole lot louder, just a lot cleaner, retails for as much as a w6v2 or an inflated SE. However the Brahma isnt all that bad of a price. Right around what i remember what it used to be, the tumult, on the otherhand, retails for just a tad less than the w7 or the new XXX and isnt much (if any) better than the w7 and doesnt stand a half fart chance agianst the new XXX. which is why i need to find new companies. I have ascendant and sound splinter...that is about it.

That sounds yummy...makes me think about the next upgrade to amanda's system. Rl-p 15 3cuft@28Hz
-
Hot box is all things smoked andin order to actually hot box the rooms has to be filled with smoke like, cant see through the car filled
-
I think you have thoes backwards. Because if the Rl-p is in the running leauges with the SE as far as output, then my preception that it's runner up competition for the old brahmas and XXX's and Avalanches as far as output is off. SE is loud, dont get me wrong, thoes drivers are just louder. Also, SE's are very clean, compareable to my avalanche. which is XBL equipted so there for is must rule all

Take the cat's off if you live in a state w/o regulations. i have 2 on my truck that are comming off and 2.5" pipe to match as soon as i have money and i can refain from buying audio stuff. Louder + Better fule economy. Who cares if my exaust smells like real exaust and the tree huggers will hate me. otherwise, nice stuff what oil is that? nothing buy Mobil 1 full synthetic for my baby.

yes, i dont think they dropped a z06 motor into them. LS2 i saw a video on streetfire with an LS1 version supercharged with over 500whp... it was fun.
-
Heck yes, this system was a deal IMO. Thanks much for the hookup on the 6.5's. She likes them soooo...im happy. and now i have some bass in her car. Im still amazed that the assasins are getting as loud as they are with only 55w. I cant wait to get her another componet amp then bridge that amp and give'em 220w.
-
Pretty sure that when DC resistance was taken they wired the coils in series to get that rating which would mean DC resistance of the 2ohm coils are 1.2-1.3ohm but i could be wrong. Anyway, i'd like to know how efficent the SW8200's are if they do feature LMT because if it takes 3kw to make them happy like some other LMT drivers, i dont really see the point.
-
SE and the Koda are close runners ever since Adire went to a dealer network they just look like another JLaudio starting up. I give them 5 years and they are either going to go out of business or they are going to end up exactly like JL. Costing too much for what yo uget ebcause a bunch of kid's parents have their parents check book.

First im going to do the 6.5's then the Assasin's. Well, Got them installed yesterday. I must say in short, well worth the money. I bought these 6.5" Co-Axil's as a stand in for a pair of Type-R 6.5"-Axil's. I've heard the Type R's before but these where tons cheaper. Deciding that even if they didnt sound as clear my GF wouldnt notice a difference, she just wants music and her mom and I just want to save money (we are cheap, I know). I purchased the pair from flakko. They where about $55, dont know what the real cost/shipping was since they where also purchased with a USamps IS2080. No the USamps wasnt used for the review, yes i know it would have been better but i wanted to review with and amp that most people budgeting would have used (just like what is going in there). For the Review i used a Hifonics Zeuss 4400. This has a claimed 110wx4. It ran both the Coax's and the Subs. This is budgeting on sterioids to me. My initial impression when i opened the box was "What the (insert H-E-Double Hockey Sticks)" They where light as hell. The motor was all fancy, like someone would invert mout a co-ax. I figured for half the price of the Type-R's not too bad, besides, cant judge a book by it's cover. Grill was cheap-ish looking and the X over the tweeter made it look kind of... "ricey." I did like the fact that they put a nice heavy cushion of felt between the tweeter/Xover componets and the cone. This ment one of two things. 1.) extra care was taken. 2.) this thing will move like a mother bumper. Either way i liked that. Upon further inspection i find that the build quality is excelent. Speaking in truth (me being an RE lover), a WHOLE better than my RE Componet Set. But enough is enough, how do they sound? Well here it is, ill do it as a list, skim through the crap you dont care about or take my initial review as a grain of salt. Doesnt make a difference to me. Though i would like that you read it since im taking up my valuable (pffft) time to type this. Driver: Hollywood Sound Drivers 6.5" Co-Ax Vehicle: 1989 4dr Toyota Camry Location: Kick Panels Enclosure: Sealed, Roughy 0.25cuft each Amp: Hifonics ZX4400 Estimated Power: From that amp, 80w if i had turned the gains all the way up. Amp Settings: High passed ~ 80Hz, 0db Bass Boost, Gains Turned Down Accompany Subs: 2 Ascendant Audio Assasin 10" Drivers in 24"x36" Decware Designs "Wicked One" Enclosure built to spec. Sub Location: Trunk, seats up, box pushed to the back of the trunk, opened facing to the back of the car. Listening Level: Maybe 115-120dB spikes Gener-Rap: For rap these preformed like any other co-ax or componet set would. All you need to hear is the vocals. There arent that many details in the music. and yes, you can hear the vocals. One thing i noticed is that they didnt pick up the higher beat in "Stay Fly" by Three 6 Mafia. Kinda got annoying after a while. Blended well with the Assasin 10's. Gener-R&B: The vocals of Usher where smooth and clear. The details in the music such as the snare, or the electronically produced highs where clear and loud butn ot harsh. This amazed me because the tweeters are metal dome. The sound stage sounded a little too low for my likeings, but that is what you get when you put co-ax's in the kicks. Gener-Heavy Metal: All i can say is wow, Zach Wylde's guitar solo's where wonderful, especially for a $55 speaker. The Vocals, agian, where smooth and clear. These things are powerful little suckers too. I did 4-5layres of 6oz cloth on the kick pods, i could still feel vibrations with my feet on drum hits. Gener-Rock: I didnt get to pop in my AC/DC or Led Zepplin, the girl doesnt like that. Instead we had some creed and some Jet. Jet's CD is recorded harsh and distorted so no, the vocals werent smooth, still sounded great though. Sound stage still seems low. Gener-Pop: Yes, we even listned to some pop music. Dont ask me by whom because i dont know anything about pop. To tell you the truth, in this part of the listening time i was trying to tuned out. Gener-Jazz: Piano is smooth and clear. Not "like i was there" smooth and clear, but smooth and clear non the less. Saxiphones are somewhat life like, This is really the Gener it's lacking in realness. With some EQing and a raised sound stage im sure you could get it acceptible to even some not-so-anal SQueers. Overall: Great Value, Great driver. If it was a more popular brand im sure some people wouldnt hesitate to spend over $80-$100 for these. Excelent drivers, worthy of a Type-R stand in.
