looking at the sub design... how could something get stuck inside, there's nothing "open" in the sub. what is gap.3.? i'll need to hook it again in my car but it still is pretty cold over in here quebec. I need to test the preamp (receiver) too. Yeah the scratching sound whenpushing is pretty much gone, maybe i wasn't pushing in the middle enough. thank's for you reply. I hope my problem ain't the sub, i love it so much

I should add too that this noise is more audible at low level then high... when the bass overpower it. is it possible that the coils are reading fine at 1.8 but still kinda blown? missaligned or something like that?
-
that sound like a possibility... there was some mdf powder and pieces left in the box. I don't feel confident with removing the dustcap. but i'll try shaking the sub a little to see if i ear something that shouldn't be there

btw lpf set around 60hz and no subsonic filter. No setting help me either with that problem

are you the same oni than on ca???? lol i just asked the question about the little rattling sound on here too good luck

The Q wasn't what i expected maybe. It does hit low... but it's also missing in the 50-80hz range. I know it ain't a upper bass sub but I just bought it 1month ago and i don't want to try something else. I'm powering it with a hifonics 2006d at 1ohm so 1700 watt +/-. The box is 6.5 net tuned at 30hz atm. ssf set around 23-25hz and hpf around 80hz. I got id's ctx65cs in frontstage but i only cross them around 90hz.. otherwise my window rattle and it doesn't like the 250watt + im putting into them. I'm listening to rap mainly. The problems is that it miss a lof of the 50-80hz bass line and something that make it sound akward, even more since when i'm bumping it there's no way the frontstage keep it up.... I'm not even sure i love the fact i can't almost hear the bass, only the car vibrating.... it doesn't sound that loud even if you feel everything is moving around btw there's dynamat xtrem on most of the car big panel. I'm thinking about tuning the box a lil higher, maybe 34-35hz. I know the Q is a SQ sub that is made to be tune low, but do you think i'll get a wider range in upper bass and a louder with 5hz tuning higher? Otherwise, i may keep this sub for my HT . It was doing a sick job in 8ft/cu @30 in my house.

the modification are done and let me tell you it's a success It hit a little higher, so more audible, louder to the ear, while still having some ok lowend. I'm glad i did it, i guess i ain't a 28hz tuning guy, that was too deep to me.

ok then , next step will be increasing the tuning and if it doesn't help me out, i'll be making a smaller for it thanks for the help dude

Hello , Fi community I got my fi Q 18inch a month ago. I had some time to play with it.... hooked on a bxi2006d @1ohm Right now, it's in a 6.5 net enclosure tuned to 30hz with three 4x15 inch aeros. It hit the 35-40hz freq nicely, but i'm sure i can get more out of it. This summer, i'll be might be working on a way to use my wheel pit and get another 2ft/cu maybe. How will the increase enclosure volume help the Q, i mean in loudness and sq. I'm thinking i might get more prononced 30-40hz range, is that accurated? how much louder? is it worth the trouble fiberglassing the wheel pit??? Also, the 55-80hz range ain't loud at all, is it normal? i mean my old alpine type r were quite loud in that range, the Q is another story the hpf is at 80hz atm, should i put it at 60hz even if my comps aren't going that low? thanks in advance
-
Again thats why its a subwoofer.. If you want 60-90 get some mid's I'll need a lot of pair of midbass to achieve the loudness i want in the upper bass range Then do it... 60-90hz is ridiculously high to want from a sub. 90hz is high indeed, let's say at least mid 70s

well 600watt on a btl is a joke? 2000hifonics watt even if it's more a 1400-1500 clean watt rms should be more than enough for that sub. Like i said, pushing more power just ain't getting it louder, even if i'm under the "clipping" level i put at around 1600 watt. Box is custom made, but i only use 3/4 mdf , single baffle, no bracing:( But the box doesn't seem to flex neither it sound bad... it's just too deep and not playing 60-80 hz bass well. I guess the 18inch sq sub aren't that good in those freqs
-
i'm pretty sure it's more than enough... i can push more power but the q doesn't get louder... even if under the clipping level
-
smaller? its already the smallest size fi recommand
-
excursion is there... actualy that's the part I prefer from that woofer yeah doors are deadened. Windows rack is pretty fudgeed up from the excessif amount of bass + the fact its an hyundai accent ... I love loud substage.... so most of the time i must be playing the substage 10db louder than the rest of the system.. so it just sound weird when a bassline just cut when getting into the 60-80hz freqs... 6.5 speakers can keep up at 80hz with a 18inch sub... Just to give an exemple, alpine type r were loud as fudge in those frequency... and that was loud to the ear. Now with the Q, i can be pushing a lot of power and the only thing that make me realize it's loud is the rattling and the feeling in my chest. I got a good earing ... i'm not deaf yet
-
sry i meant lpf set at 80hz
-
no leak from what i see. There's only one 3/4 baffle tough... but even if i sat on the box, there's not qualitative chance in sound so i guess it's not that bad.
-
I may try sealed in last resort... but what about tuning a lil higher? will it make the bass more audible and less felt?
-
well i don't want to loose spl... sealed won't be helping in that case but hey thank you for the fast answer! Do you think sealing it at its max recommanded enclosure = better than chocking it in the smallest ported enclosure?
-
i'm about to tune that box to 35hz. what can i expect? wider ranger in the upper bass + a little more spl?
-
i'm thinking about modding this box to achieve a 35hz tuning. I know this ain,t what fi recommand, but should it? Can i expect a higher dropoff and some more db's...
-
well midbass to me is 80-400hz. 40-80 is bass and under that subbass.... it just seems like there's a empty gap between the two. All the woofers I had prior were 12inch. They had no problem getting up to 80hz without rolling off, but weren't as strong in the low as the fiQ18 is. I tought that sub was pretty linear from 30-80hz but it ain't the case. Minsinformation i guess.... But what are the benefit of building a box that is bigger? fi recommand 6-10 and i'm at 6.5. what if i go to 8.5, how would it change the sound quality and loudness of the sub? My door are deadned, but i'm getting mad window vibration setting my hpf under 80hz btw
-
I already got great midbass from my image dynamics ctd65cs. Still they won't go down to 60hz on 300watt rms. Every other sub i tried had descent response till around 80hz..... q
-
will the box volume increase will get me better lows even with a little higher tuning?
-
so there's nothing to do over 60hz with that woofer? What if i tune to box a little higher and I add 2.0ft of volume?
