BSc Kinesiology, MSc Kinesiology, PhD Kinesiology Candidate ADV-FIS, ADV-PTS, NWS, SCS through CanFit and CSCS + NSCA-CPT through the NSCA. Been doing research in the field for nearly five years now, been training for various sports and events myself for 16 years. Worked with the Vancouver Canucks and the WSU Cougars baseball teams, along with various other university/college hockey, baseball, football, rugby, golf, volleyball, and basketball teams. So yeah, I've fooled with weightlifting and training some.

I'll get some 2" steel plates from work and post one up.

The wife has a cat. It just threw up on the basement carpet (it had to miss the hardwood and tile ...) Was a tough choice between the 92 Steel-I and the PT-145SSP. The wife had a cat.

Welcome to SSA. If you mean WA State and are on the East side of it, I'm right above you in southern BC.

The pressure guage inside my home reads 72 PSI when the sink is running and shower is on. I used to have 30-45 or so. I upgraded the 1/2" line from my home to the water main ... to a 1". Overkill is where it's at.

Yes - a lack of, incomplete, restless, or otherwise disruptive sleeping patterns can cause stress-like symptoms. You're probably constantly tired throughout the day, have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep at times, a little more angry and short-tempered than usual, have difficulty with memory, and may have even lost interest in previously enjoyed activities. You might be rapidly gaining or losing weight, noticing frequent headaches and/or chest pain, become dizzy when standing quickly from a seated or lying position, and so on. Stress can be a major issue when it comes to sleep, and vice versa. A lack of sleep can cause you to become stressed, which just keeps the circle going. The point is, we as men think along the lines of: if I wake up and I piss blood or cut a finger off, I *might* have a problem and I *might* see a doctor about it. In reality, stress is a huge issue. You have to make sure the bills are paid, food is on the table, the house is clean, you have transportation, you have a good job, your family is taken care of, your woman isn't cheating on you, paying the fcking bill for her wedding ring. You need dishes, washer and dryer, appliances, other home furnishings. You need a retirement fund and savings. You need to figure out how to finance a home worth more than your life. You have to keep in shape and perhaps train for a sport. On top of all of it, you have to make yourself happy. Where is the time for yourself? What do you do for fun? How do you relieve stress and is it really that effective? I always put everyone in front of me. I still do. This is why I'm burnt out and don't know how to relax. I'm high strung, high maintenance, constantly angry, depressed and stressed. Being educated in both psychology and kinesiology, I seen it coming quite some time ago. I tried to change my habits and become a different person ... but it didn't work. A little bit of stress is ok. Just don't go overboard. Catch it early and don't let it take control of your life. It's not a manly thing to admit, but I don't care ... stress is stress and it is a pain in the ass. It can and will control your life if you let it. Anyone can give up... but to hold it all together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart ... that's true strength. It could be as simple as you having a meal too close to bed, shitty pillows, improper posture, seratonin imbalance, etc. I just had to preach for a bit about stress because it's a major issue with this type of discussion.

It's probably a good time to see a physician. Hopefully the vomit doesn't turn red before you get there.

Great article, Jim! Makes me want to get something new - I hate just seeing the records sitting around and collecting dust.

The next person who accuses me of being on steroids will get severely beat. I'm tired of dealing with this shit ... and have been for the past 10 years.

Stress is a bitch. I felt pretty lethargic for a while and dropped a few pounds. I noticed my workouts turning to shit as well. In my case it was severe high blood pressure. I caught it early and solved the problem right away - I started knocking off stressors one by one until I was 100% ok - HBP is the 'silent killer' See a doctor/walk-in-clinic/something and explain the situation. It could really be anything from extreme stress to a hormone imbalance (either brain or stomach). Keep going with that meal schedule ... even throw in something around 3:00PM - along with your 10:00AM snack, have a handful of chicken wings, a salad, or a cup of rice along with the fruit if possible. Same for the 3:00PM one. I eat more in my 12 hour shift at work than I ever have before in that same time period.

And to think I just watched Deliverance last night on nightshift ....

Producing zinc, lead, copper, gold, silver, bismuth, cadmium, indium, germanium, acids, fertilizers, and a couple others out of rock dug up from mines. Briefly ... the smelter (Kivcet furnace) melts stuff and pours it into blocks. The lead refinery has a 6 day process of refining (anodes/cathodes) ... they remelt it and do their thing to it. The leftovers come into the silver refinery where it is melted and separated into #1 dore slag and black metal. The black metal is granulated and the slag is sent back to the smelter for further refining. The black metal is dumped into burndown furnaces which fumes off bismuth, arsenic, antimony, selenium, thallium, etc. Two more furnaces, the BBOC and TBRC further refine and finally sheets of silver are produced. The silver has some chemical treatment and what is left is black sand. The silver is remelted and further refined and then cast into bars (1000 ounce bars, 72 per day). The black sand is refined and produces gold which is also cast into a r (800-1000 ounces, 1 bar per day). Zinc bars are also produced in a different plant on the property and used in some of the processes in the refinery and the rest sold.

I don't teach during the summer semester ... I take it off to work on my research. I have worked at this job previously, and it was easier to re-hire someone who is already trained to relieve for guys taking holidays. Trust me, I only took it for the money - we're not allowed to take pictures, but this plant is the definition of heavy industry.

I stand over a 2200F furnace containing molten metal for 12 hours of a day wearing 3 ft/s coveralls, thermal long underwear and long sleeve shirt, a respirator, and a molten metal splash jacket ... and it is 109F outside. On the way up to the lunch room, still in the plant but not near the furnaces, the air temperature is 158F. At least I'm not getting shot at.
