i may be wrong but i believe both the alpine ixa-w407 and pioneer avh 4100 have 7" screens

I did not know where to put this but since it concerns using head units, I thought this would be the best fit section. So first of all some background info.... I have a 1999 Volvo S70 (dont hate) and currently I have a alpine cda-9886 headunit. My car is a double-din so i have the headunit in the bottom slot and a pocket in the top slot. I also have 15% tint all the way around, which I know isn't the darkest but its pretty dark at night, especially backing up....however, i was thinking about redoing the tint and getting 5% all around and 50% on the windshield so I know that this will be even harder to see at night. before i was deciding whether or not to go darker but my tint got scratched today due to the seat belt being flung at it (not me) and it ripped the tint. Luckily its not to big but it gives me an excuse to redo the tint haha. this leads me to my question... Once i get the tint redone it will be significantly darker so i decided to get a backup camera for night time.... right now i am choosing between two options: 1) Keep my alpine where it is and add a cheap single din flip up and use the alpine for music and what it does now and the flip up for just backup camera (looking at something like http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_23551_Absolute_ATV-860.aspx) 2) Sell the alpine (maybe get $199 for it or something) and then buy a double din headunit with video/backup camera etc.... Im pretty sure option 1 is even possible but maybe im wrong so that could rule out that option and so i just wanted some feedback and see what you guys would do and why. ***Also*** please no comments about the dangers of dark tint or windshield tint... ive heard them all and 50% on the windshield is not going to do anything substantial to night vision... its mainly for heat/leather protection and so that the front windows look more like the back because right now the front ones look lighter than the back even though they are all 15%. thanks, alex

alrite thanks... only reason I am hesitant with selling the alpine or not using it is because i like it so much how it works with my ipod and how easy it is to use. i love my headunit. what are some good double din video/backup cam headunits.

Incase you decide to get a new box here is one that was made to the specs of (2) 10" Icons which if you look at the specs of Icons and Dcons are almost exactly alike. Fi Sundown Sound Solution Audio Alpine (for headunits)

located in Hickory, NC and will meet anywhere within an 60 min radius. I bought it brand new for $340 directly form FI and have been the sole owner and im looking for $275 with box but will negotiate or sell without box. It was only used for a few months and never abused.

I have my 15" Fi Q sitting in my house just lying around and was going to put it to good use until someone buys it. If i've read correctly then i need a power supply, an amp (sold the sundown that was with it), and some RCA's? For the power supply i was going to try this... Newegg.com - Sunbeam PSU-BKS580-US 580W ATX Power Supply - Power Supplies For the amp i was just going to get some crappy lil amp sorta like this Hitron HPA2000.1D (hpa20001d) Mono Subwoofer Amps Car Amplifiers Car Audio Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navigation - Sonic Electronix that will be enough to make the sub go but doenst have to be too nice like my car amp because im low on cash and this whole plan is just to f*** around, its not to be the best system ever and i wont be using it too often... So I am just wondering if this would work and plug into my A/V Reciever (pioneer sx217) thanks.

It was hard to discern from your post if you still wanted a Q or if you are now leaning toward a BL but I have a 15" Fi Q in a ported box but i can take the sub out and sell just the sub... works well in both ported and sealed enclosures.

thats true and i probably will end up getting something a little less than the 1000 watt.... would the difference between 500 watts and 1000 be worth double the price ($200 vs $400) The maximum difference would be 3db.....audible but not a night and day difference. Whether or not the difference is worth the price is up to you. If it were me using it on a temporary basis a 3db increase in output would not be worth double the price. Alright well thank you. now the dude has said he just isnt interested anymore so i think I AM A buy the 500 watt amp and wait until someone buys my Q..... so ask around or if any of you guys want a 15" Fi Q. Im going to put it in the classified section so anyone interested go look for it there. ill post a link later. thanks

so thats all i would need and i could just plug that straight into a wall outlet? or would i still need the PSU... also that would only give the Q 240 watts when it can take 1000 plus it has BP so 1200-ish... so would that even get near as loud as it could?

What else are you doing to it or upgrading? nothing to do with the sounds, just aesthetics.... finishing up the trunk. sometime this upcoming weekend ill get some pics (unfortunately probably phone pics) and try to get a video if i have time to go find an open lot somewhere.

p.s. I should FINALLY have everything done late next week and will post pics up when i find time so stay tuned.

hey notorious, jay-cee pretty much got it.... it is definitely noticeably louder with the seats down 99% of the time I have them down.... the only time I put them up is if I am carrying more than one person (not often) or going snowboarding sometimes I put them up.... but i love it and would do it 1000x over.... much preferred over my last setup where I had a 15" Fi Q in my trunk firing toward the back..... there is much more sound inside of the cabin with my current setup and also A LOT less rattling.

thanks guys and yes they do... most of the people that get in just assume because of their size it wont be loud at all but oh hey, there are four.. maybe itll be a little bit louder than i think and then i turn it up and they're begging me to turn it down haha. all in all im very satified and my only regret it i wish there was some way we could have fit a box the size of the original design but the skeleton that was made to that original size was not getting in the trunk in any way so i had to sacrifice some or build an optimum box but not use all the subs... thank you sundown audio and thank you soundsolutions audio and thank you to everyone on the forum who helped me plan this, especially shizzon.

uh oh. did he just say "best".... someone help this guy. What are you looking for? SQ or SPL. In other words... you want to sound good or do you want to get loud? I mean obviously everyone WANTS both, but lets say if you had to choose... pick one.

So i just got my car back from Freeman's friday around 1 am. The guy worked on it far past closing hrs and did a wonderful job. To see the box specs and the ideas about the build go to this link: I've been listening to a variety of songs and different kinds of music and it all sounds great. Louder than my Ported 15" FI Q for sure and looks sick! The only difference between what i planned on doing and what ended up happening is that instead of the box being around 5.75 after displacements and bracing its only a little over 4 which i know isnt ideal but its the biggest possible to fit it in my trunk. It still sounds great so im not too disappointed about that. It isn't quite done from the trunk so ill just put up a picture of the subs so you get an idea and then once it is all complete ill post more pics. I want to think Shizzon for an awesome box idea and for putting so much work into this even though its not his build. I want to think Freeman's audio (especially Drew) for building an awesome box and putting so much time into it and working far past requirements to make me happy. I want to think SSA and Sundown for making great products and i will recommending them to all my friends. I was actually at Freeman's on friday for awhile and then came back from like 10:30pm-1am and talked with the guys while they worked on the car and what not and they mentioned how a guy from Sundown was bringing a van with (12) 12"s in on Saturday and they told me to come around 4:30 but it turns out they came before that so unfortunately i missed that. I'm sure that was amazing. Anyways i love the subs, amp is a monster, and the box looks sick. Here is the pics i have now... and ill have many more pics later that ill put up especially once i get my hands on a camera and not my chitty 2 Megapixel on my phone.
