Doctor Q

Currently I am Running a 15" Fi Q ported in a 4 Cu. Ft. box supposedly tuned to about 32-33hz and stock speakers in a 99' Volvo S70. I am missing out on some hz's like above 60ish probably but i want some more lows... so what im thinking of doing is for now get some midbass speakers (or maybe even just some good 6.5's) so play from like 65-70hz up and leave the rest the same... then later replace my 15 with an 18" Q tuned at 28 and then bring the midbass down to like 60-65...? does this seem logical? Also would a 18 Q in a 5 cu ft box work well or do i need to get closer to like 6 or 6.5

what are the dimensions on this box?

how would this compare to the Fi Q? i was thinking of gettin a 18 Q at the end of this year but i might get an 18 Xcon.... then sell my 1200D and get a 1500D and get a custom fishers box.

okay well as far as audio goes there is only one store besides the everyday best buy and circuit city crap... and thats the place where i got my sub installed so idk if i can find something i want there... best they have is JL but most of JL's stuff is overpriced.. ill go check it out this weekend and hit you guys back.

hey man looks great... bet it sounds like it too.. i got the same exact sub but on a sundown 1200D and i was also thinking of flippin my box around so it faces into the cabin and then maybe making a new 5 cu ft box if i like it. let me know if u try this.. im quite busy so i dont have time to try things now but id be interested to see how sealing it into the cabin would change things. thanx.

haha yeah good point... well now i need to figure out which components to try. any suggestions? i found THESE THESE and THESE I think the REs are at the bottom of the list... but both the MB Quarts and JLs look good but what do i know... Any ideas? Comments? Advice? thanx again. idk what id do without this forum

okay so maybe replace the fronts with some good 6.5s that can play down to 50-60hz area and above?? then go from there?

everything is stock besides the sub, headunit, and amp for the sub.... all door speakers and rear shelfs are stock.

maybe its my lack of knowledge but why would i tune it higher to hit lows??? im thinkin tune it 28-32hz... then get the mids to crossover at like 50-60hz

okay so maybe just get mids crossed at like 60 or so and then get a new box around 5 cu ft @ 32hz and 80 sq inches of port??

Also, say im looking for a speaker to be able to play like 60hz and up, should i look at the "Frequency Response" or the "Lowest Resonant Frequency"....... like with this pair of RE's: http://www.woofersetc.com/p6873/RE65FR--RE...al-Speakers.htm Im assuming it would be able to play notes from the frequency of 55-20,000hz, but then what is the 90hz (lowest resonant frequency) mean?

i just got a 15" Q and might be looking to get a 18" Q put in a pored box very similar to this later down the road... do u mind me asking how much this cost so i could have an estimate. i got cheated on my last box but ive been looking at your work and it is TOP-NOTCH... that being an understatement.

another thing... to save money, you might want to get 1 15" BL instead of 2 12's... it wont be quite as loud but you would save hundreds of dollars. i did this with my system. i was going to get 2 12's but instead got 1 15" Q. absolutely love it. plus now if i want to be louder i can just buy another 15, if you have 2 12's you would probably have to sell them both and get 2 15's or maybe do 3 12's or something.. idk itd just be easier to upgrade from 1 15 then from 2 12's IMO

for your amp, i love my sundown... for 2 BLs i guess a Sundown 2000D would be a great match.

i believe my Q is ported is pretty loud and sounds great. so yes.. its possible. it might not make your ears bleed or anything but it is pretty loud.

+1 and it rapes the lows... i love it haha. the BL will have more output but the Q does its fair share and gets lower and sounds better. plus if u ever feel like listening to different music or ur friend wants to listen to something else or maybe ur girl hates rap, then u have a more versatile sub that will sound good with any type of music.. Q FTW!

haha okay ill try to get back to u on those vids. any requests? and i think mine is tuned at 32hz and i love it... "Lost" sounds so good on my system and my friends cant even play my slowed songs i made haha.

maybe its just me but i have a 15" Q and no one rreally gets out or anything. theyre like DAMMMM thats loud as **** and their expression is priceless but it doesnt really hurt unless i keep it loud for awhile.... should i turn my box around so it all fires into the cabin? it's all on personal preference more then anything. well besides a good box install. but if they all think it's loud as fuhh, thats all that matters right? i mean do you really want them to get out of the car? hahah hahaha good point... well i can say one thing. im VERY proud with my sub and thank you thank you thank you Fi and Sundown! i have gotten all sorts of comments and people talk smack bout my sub because they havnt heard of it so they think it sucks and they are telling me their alpines and sonys are better AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA and about everyone at my school thinks JL is the best you can get so i show those people a lil thing called FI! they change their minds real quick haha i love my system. dont think i could be any happier unless i could get a suv and have 2 Q's. OKay so i got my car back... 15" Q in a (supposed to be) 4 cu.ft. ported box.... i love it so far and sounds great. i need to listen to it more tommorw. i hardly had any time today. but anyways, to the point... My box is 4 cu. ft. which means the port should be 48-64 square inches.... well i have 4 3" ports which is: 1.5^2 x 3.1415 x 4 = 28.2735 if the box is 4 cu ft and i replace the 3" ported with 4" ports, that would give me about 50 (50.264) square inches but how much would it take from the rest of the box? how would it change the sound and output? and how hard would it be to change the ports out? I think it may be restricting the sub a lil with such lil port area... idk im a noob haha

Would it be worth it to go thru the hassle and money to put in the 4" ports or should i just leave it?
