That is the right tutorial, it will explain what clipping is in the first couple pages. If you dropped from 2 subs to 1, you just lost about 6 db's and that would explain your lacking on the volume, but as far as over expecting, just listen to the clarity from the SS. I am willing to bet that both your old subs together didn't give the low level detail you can get from this thing, I have never had a sub that was so detailed. Mine has about 6 hours at this point, my gain is between half and 3/4's set to the number i derived from that little formula, and I still can't stop grinnin'. I had a trio of 10's at one point that was louder, but no where near the quality of sound I have now.

Comes down to cone area. I rode in a car with a wall of 6" JL's, probably 24 or so that hurt me. While one may not go so low it is still trying to produce that bottom octave, a pair and you may hear it, couple 36 drivers together and with the effective cone area, they will go to the bottom octive and pound ya in the midbas region as well. Way back in the 80's Car Stereo Review did an article with a car that had a wall of 4's, does anyone else remember that? Lord, I am really dating myself here. I tried something to that effect with an 87 Isuzu P'Up but lack of budget and knowledge fizzled out that project quick. But your comment on the 901's brought it all back as those were the drivers I was going to use. They use the same theory on coupling small drivers, with the right sized port(s) to bring you an incredible dynamic stage that goes down deep and surrounds you with imaging that won't quit..

Tried out Class D today
finebar4 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Got my Orion 1200D from HCCAfan yesterday, thought I would give Class D a whirl while the RF undergoes surgury  for a couple mods. Hooked it up this morning and just got back from tweaking. WOW! I drove that thing pretty hard at 2 ohms to see what she had and one thing she didn't have was heat. Warm to the touch but not hot, my Audison was warmer from pushing the mids. I got it to push a GB RLp at 1 ohm, but it pushed my PG 12Ti pretty hard. I dropped in Kickstart my Heart from the Crue and it damn near stopped my heart . I am a hardcore oldschool guy that thinks the world of vintage RF, PG, and PPI, the stuff from when JL was still an idea . I give props to the Class D stuff (at least some of it) after seeing first hand the efficiency behind it. I could mount the Orion under the seat without fear of it overheating. And they back up the numbers, it was hitting as hard as the RF does, and there would be no way I could touch that beast after a good workout like that. I am impressed. -
Some real good tips in there, thank's Nick. Where did you get those corner braces at?

Guess it's time to check out the diesel HD Silverado......anybody got any first hand reviews on these? Got the 5.3 now and lovin' it, but.......6 months and 40 thousand miles later, thinkin' I might have shoulda checked out the diesel in the first place.

Tried out Class D today

Well, at 41, I thought I would finally give 1 ohm a shot. I know a lot guys on here run at .5 daily. Class D is great for developing large quantites of power relativly cheap, but I think I will stick with the AB 4 ohm amps myself. Dave keep me posted on PG, I will join you in a purchase if you can convince them to rebuild those amps. Hell if RF can make aniversery amps, why can't PG? -
Could you be talking about Blade Technologies out of Canada? Definetely a warm a fuzzy tone on them.
-
Eric, ****'s a sweetass ride you got there. When is the first system gonna find it's way in there? You know you gotta go Quarts to keep with the Deutch thing
-
Welcome Aboard. Sorry about your last system, been there a couple times myself . Hang out a while, we try to be a peacefull bunch.

I haven't seen the Class H, but I think class D is OK. I think the Orion will find a home in my son's car. I will probably switch to an old school PG or mod my old RF to better suit my needs. I know the class D can hang with the low impedences, but I like lot's of headroom that you find running 4 ohms let alone the increased damping. Class D has met the challenge of developing lots of low impedence power, but I am a control freak by nature, and while I may sacrifice some of the wattage, the increased dynamics still works for me. I still have an old class A adcom that I won't part with for it's warm sound and incredible dynamics. Need to get my hands on some Rainbows to try the combination. Hell, I still have the first punch 45 and punch 150 that were my first top shelf system (circa 1987),still have the Quarts they ran as well. I cut my teeth on Coustic and have had the bug since. Seen alot of changes in the equipment since then with the advent of digital, but gimme an old PG, PPI, or RF any day. -
Maybe it is the memories, but I am betting that PG would drive nails if you asked it to. Just have lot's of power to feed it. I am pretty sure the MS stuff is 2 ohm stable and the MPS is 1 or .5 from that line up. Brand new though. Damn my mortgage payment.

Couldn't agree more, Hammer, no way I would that much out for them. Check this bad boy out, much more obtainable. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW

Time for a second mortgage. Now that they make subs that can take what those beasts can push. Heard one the first year crossfire came out, guy had 12 12's running on one breaking the 140's then. java script:add_smilie("") '
